Nice comparison. Both win as hobby simulations, with differences in various areas. Race the one you find best suited to your needs and preferences. Mine is currently rFactor since my schedule will not support the iRacing scenario.

Great to see Barber Motorsports Park available for both Sims. iRacing's version is very close though it is still not correct. The elevation changes are not as accurate as they should be for the technique they used IMHO. I live 65 minutes from BMS and have been there over 2 doz. times for racing and local events.

You can see in this video, though iRacing is closer than the rF track (elevations slightly exaggerated, though rF version more fun) [link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LiSWF3DoOE ]

The iRacing track textures are spot on, however, for the money... I take rF anytime.

I for one wish I had a better Internet connection satellite simply will not support online racing/gaming activities. (satellite at $100/month, so please don't tell me I need a job, cable is not offered in my area, or DSL or anything)

I think iRacing is way over rated and to be honest, I think they get the same coverage as Obama, some how the SIM reporting world seem to give it a free pass. For me, videos like this simply prove it is not that "over the top"

Wouldn't it be great to get the true facts on iRacing, the complete cost to have all these tracks and great car models.

How about that Shaun and Darin, (I'm a supporter/donator of ISR) how about you guy's do a segment/review iRacing's true cost for someone that bought all available tracks and car models for iRacing plus fees in one year.

Folks complain about paying a one time cost of $29.99 or even $19.99 for a game like Evo but feel $400 to $500 dollars for iRacing is a great value.

Anyway, I would like to try iRacing, and would for a month, but I don't think I could support this type of online only high cost so called Pro Sim Racing as a weekend gamer. However, for race teams, and a truly great motion simulator, maybe it's the Ticket... and I'm sure their target market!

Thanks for a great site Montoya!

iRacing one definatly drives better.

The reason the tracks looks so different is because they are. rFactors looks good but is actually very inaccurate.

rFactor holds up well considering its all amatuer stuff.

Nice video. Cool to see these two compared.

I'd say that iRacing wins when it comes to the interior of the car. Many more details (the straps and everything), and the in-car lighting as the car runs around on the track is superior. However, it doesn't look like the car has any windows!

rFactor has the better track lighting, and maybe also quality of the track. As phil23 also said, it looks far more alive. And here, the car has windows to look through.

So I'd say the score is 1-1. But I prefer rFactor because of the modding scene, prize and its aim to the whole world and not just the US.

They both look good. It is obvious that regardless of what sim you drive you will get a great experience driving a Daytona Prototype car at Barber Motorsports Park.

I am sure iRacing users will think iRacing is the best..and those that rFactor will say theirs is the best.

Both look good..just enjoy and drive.

I hope the "get a job" wasn't aimed at my comment!!

I work a 45hour week doing night shifts then come home to do the school run etc while my wife works a full time dayshift. I get to sleep somewhere in between. It's just my 2 kids come first not my hobbies.

If I've taken you're comment the wrong way then my apologies.

But yes they are both worthy Sims and I didn't actually mean rFactor was a "poor mans sim" just not a subcription based professional program

Rfactor is more towards hobby wich is very good! Iracing is serious/Pro Sim-Racing!Obviously is comes with a pricetag!
Real Physics and FFB you dont get with atm.. No need to compare them imo! There both very good, only iRacing is 200% non-arcade! Get a job and try it, if youre able offcourse

Well that's a really interesting comparison.

Though I don't play iRacing anymore (because I cannot afford to) it is an awesome Sim, but the vid does show the quality that can be found in rFactor etc. rFactor doesn't look the poor mans alternative does it? Though iRacings physics and FFB are brilliant it shows visually that other sims can match it. If anything the rFactor track looks far more "alive" with more visual detail.

Were they recoreded with the same FOV? The elevations look more pronounced in rFactor.
