rFactor 2 – Silverstone Reality Check

AdrianF1ESP has put together a great reality check comparison of Image Space Incorporated’s Silverstone track for rFactor 2.

The newest version of  the British Grand Prix venue has become a very popular track in virtual racing circles, adding to the rF2 version the track will also be available in Gran Turismo 6 and Assetto Corsa. Furthermore, the track is already available in Project CARS as well as rFactor.

    Pretty good.

  • Henk Ensing

    I’d say: spot on!

  • Ricoo

    Nice work. :)

    Good comparison.
Disappointed with the rFactor2 demo, wrong vehicle to showcase rFactor 2, and it hasn’t convinced me to make a purchase.

It seems many share your opinion. Maybe the answer was to include 2 cars. The weird Corvette and maybe the Clio or the Formula 3.5

      • Realkman666

I loved the Clio the first time I tried it. The vintage F3 is also pretty stable. As much as I love the C6R, it’s very intimidating at first.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

I’m sure the real thing is more sure-footed.

      • Realkman666

I would think so, but I’ve also been to the track on Friday mornings and it’s obviously hard to find the grip, even when being smooth and short-shifting.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

ach so I’m going to have to wait until next friday to fire up rF2 and find that out. :) :)

Looks pretty good! I only got enthusiasm for this sim, it has so much potential!
BTW, the 2009 CR6 ALMS car had traction control, that’s what needed to be used if some of you aren’t comfortable yet with the throttle.

      • Realkman666

Yet with simply a few clicks down on the rear springs, it’s not scary anymore.

    • Pascal

oo I didn’t know there was a demo. I am going to try it.

come back with some feedback on what you thought. i dont believe to many thou as most of them come from arcade games not sims and there is a big diff. and a lot complaining about the car choice well we don’t get what we always want in a demo

      • Pascal

I played it yesterday. With default setup car is hard to drive but not impossible. I found some setup on isi forum and it’s much better. Track is nice but short. They could include some open-wheeler too. But I like it, I still play rF1.

I can assure you I have been playing rFactor1 for a long time, own a lot of simbin sims and the only arcade racing game I have tried is TDU 2 & DriverSF.

If ISI who I support, expect to win potential customers, with the current rFactor 2 demo, they are mistaken, the vehicle they have chosen to include in the demo in my opinion was the wrong choice, it hasn’t convinced me, and I will not be purchasing rfactor2 after trying build 240 demo.

        your loss

  • Ben Lee

    It looks very good indeed.

It’s uncanny at moments – wow! Go around a corner though; get a slight change in lighting, and the ground textures/curves/objects become visually flat.

Maybe more extreme tone mapping could fix that in later versions, I know ISI doesn’t stop working to improve everything over time.

  • Jos

looks like the sun doesnt exist in rf2…

  • Tomas Beha

    Very nice indeed, ISI

  • Jordan Meagher

This makes reality look bad… they need to make a rfactor2 vs pcars silverstone now , i tryed to play pcars silverstone and imo rfactor2 has it beat big time !! rfactor2 gfx are just so crisp :)

  • Kris Kahle

there is still alot missing in the physics department. I can see that rf2 shows silverstone wayyy too smooth.

    • Jordan Meagher

If you notice in the real vid, the cam is mounted on the dash as rfactor2 is just a solid cam it fells and looks a lot more bumpy incar view with FFB

    • Anonymous

Stupid comment. The way the dev made up the tracksurface has nothing to do with the engine physics. Besides that, u have to race it to feel the bumps. But ppl keep bashing rF2 for nothing with non-inteligent comments.

        +1

    • Realkman666

Try a street circuit, you’ll feel the surface. ;)

Already one of my favorites. Very accurate.

  • Dani .

Accurate. But Colour still saturated? look at the kerbs. Rf2 is over colour, AC is whased. How about a middle point??

    • Jordan Meagher

how bout you check your video card and monitor color settings huh? because rf2 color is perfect for me.

      • Dani .

Red is near pink. I have my monitor perfectly calibrated, also my Gfx card is perfect,. Just look both videos. The thumbnail, look at the fences. one is red to my eyes, RF one is like mmm fluorescent?

      • Matt Orr

A video is not likely if ever the correct color as to what it truly is in the real world.

Different ToD will give a different lighting hue as well.

      • ___ ɥqp ___

Hahahaha, yer eyes are cream crackered then sonny!

    • ___ ɥqp ___

Boo hoo, there’s always something wrong with whatever people do.

No doubr AC will get a load of moaning minnies complaining about this and that when it finally gets released.

      • Dani .

I complain because it’s an easy fix to do, and a very important visual tweak, and maybe somecomments in this direcction push developers to change how sims colours are showed. I’m not saying it’s bad It’s a very accurate version.

  • Mrslfrsl

    ISI scanned! ;)

It took 200+ years for delevopers to made this track, which is less then 50% similar to real… *facepalm*

    • Walter

      wanka

  • Luciano

The Marussia has too much grip on the high speed corners in this track version.
On Copse and Abbey is a bit too much for a current F1 like car.
The surface has no bumps and visually is still in very early stage.
But RF2 has very fun/good taste gameplay and I recommend it.
With more production resources in visuals and sound it could be much more pretty.

With the new additions to DX11 its going to be a very unfair competition with other games visuals.

After trying some setup on the ISI forum, I now find the corvette enjoyable to drive.
How do I install & use Silverstone in the demo build, or is it just for those that have purchased a full version of rFactor2, there is nothing on the ISI forum about the demo & how to use it or install tracks, yet it says Silverstone can be used with the demo

    • Luciano

To use other content you need a purchase. But they have terrible good taste in everything: you can get a refund within a period.

      • Anonymous

Thank you for the reply, I wouldn’t want to get a refund, so I will wait until rfactor 2 matures, with Assetto corsa & pCars coming out soon as well I can wait.
