ISI has not shown us any new rFactor 2 screenshots for quite a while but their Twitter feed shows that the Ann Abour-based crew is more than busy working on their newest titles.
Earlier today, three particularly interesting tweets were published. One deals with AI as Gjon Camaj comments that the AI in rFactor can be tweaked to be very competitive, even though he does not believe it’s a main selling point of the upcoming sim.
Another tweet reveals that rFactor 2 will be supporting circuit-specific environment maps. The most exciting news though is that Gjon confirms once more that rFactor 2 will be having changing weather effects. Furthermore, a preview video showing off the effects is promised – It would be the first time we´d be seeing moving images of the new rFactor title.

What are circuit-specific environment maps?

I think circuit specific reflections?

So that means the so much dreamed of ‘real’ reflections aren’t there, right?

Circuit-specific environment maps? So no real live reflections (envmap updated in real time)? Come on, it’s 2009!

I hope that the AIs will finally react on flag rules – especially the blue flag!!

well they did just leave another tweet saying ‘banning bad actors is something i would like to see too.’ I presume there talking about the fake ‘mistakes’ of the current gmotor2 actors
Also, Curcuit specific enviroment maps (and from the way there talking, they will not be real time sorry) is very much possible in the current gmotor2 engine, its just that noone took advantage of it. Ditto to skinned pit boxes, which only v8factor took advantage of (but i hope more mods do soon)

What about an update on the physics or the FFB system? If the physics and force feedback alone were updated I would declare rfactor2 a success. In our genre high fidelity accuracy is king all else is secondary

Gjon Camaj already answered these questions in an interview with autosimsport volume 4 issue 5.

Does anyone know weather this will have a built in voice comunication program,at the moment the consoles seem to have the edge on on line multiplayer coms, esp the Xbox version,I know you can get programs to run voice coms on pc,but it would be better if everyone was using a bult in tool,as I find it to difficult to text chat while driving

For the more casual sim racers like myself, who like to jump into a random public server at a random time,I hope that RF2 will:-
Issue penalties for cutting the track online (>2 wheels outside the white line track boundaries)
Issue penalties for not following the flag conditions
Make it easier to have the correct tracks and mods to join a server
Ensure every single mod released can be mixed with other mods for mixed class racing
For the more commited sim racers, who probably have community marshalls looking at race ettiquette issues in a league environment, I suspect their priority will be different:-
Improved car physics
Improved sounds
Improved graphics
Improved track conditions (weather changes, grip changes in localised parts of track)
The ability to rejoin a server in the garage after disconnection
In an ideal world, ISI will be able to fulfill most of the above, keeping most of “everyone” happy. Lets hope it is an ideal world… ;)

I think they are referring to online wreckers, more than gMotor 2 errors.

maybe the object use the environment map? and the cars have real time reflextions? maybe? please?
but if its really true, i can understand that, they cant magic crysis out of the gmotor2 engine.

I have just been iRacing a few days, but I have only seen “NOOB!” once, from an angry french dude who got taken out in T1 on Lime Rock right ahead of me.
As much as I love the general feel of iRacing and the relatively clean races, its not league racing. I imagine its heaven for pick up racers, though. Bring on rFactor 2!

rFactor 2 might be what we all been waiting for. Only one thing i would like … a release date. not the exact date!! the year would do. that would help us making some serious discussions. I also wonder if the Super League project is going to have an impact on the rf2 development.

Customized emaps will probably be useful for people with older machines that can’t turn real time reflections on.

If I’m driving “on the edge” I don’t want to hear chatter, either – thus the mute function is necessary. This is not an avsim furball and if I’m in turn one I don’t care to hear apologies or flaming going on over in turn nine. While trying for a racing “simulation”, the only people you can talk to as a driver are normally (non-NASCAR) your engineer and drivers within your team.
Save the gee-whiz, tech discussions, sorry-bout-dat, flaming and virtual punch-in-the-nose for chat after the race, as far as I’m concerned. Kinda like the real world.
