rFactor 2 – New Spa Screenshot

ISI’s Gjon Camaj has released another screenshot of  their upcoming rFactor 2 simulation. The shot showing what seems to be a historic Formula Two car at Spa Francorchamps 1969, this is the very first time we get to see a rFactor 2 car in-game.

In the meantime, Gjon has also been giving some interesting new info via Twitter, announcing that rFactor 2′s tracks will have physically modelled bumps, dips and micro-deformations which can be modelled from scanned data, MAX script or by hand.

Furthermore, it has also been confirmed that there will be the same modding tools for the community as with rFactor, giving every modder the best base to get their rFactor 2 mods started.

    Dynamic reflections on car…

Very helpfull info, thanks. I just automaticly assumed it was an F1 car

  • Jos

    bad picture compression.

  • Siggs

Hmm…The shadows on the near-side body are a bit pixeled up. But the modelling is very nice. Not much evidence of any new lighting, and realtime reflections. Still nice. :)

    From Scott Juliano:

“Also, I’d label this as medium detail, as there are a few elements that we didn’t show you ;)”

    Where?

  • Jos

nowhere, I’ve seen thousands of gtr2/rfactor screenshots that look better then this :P

  • Serg Funke

maybe when its released. but im not sure if Gjon say something about realtime reflections.

im still positive . it takes some time till release.

  • Siggs

If that’s medium, then I guess its OK. That explains the slight pixeling on the shadows. The only thing that would worry me now is that the body seems so ‘flat’ in that image.

    That is the point :)
I expected to see them but there aren’t any.

    Also I agree with Jos.
This screen IMO is nothing special, nothing revolutionary. Even nothing evolutionary. But maybe it’s because there are already fantastic looking 3rd party tracks and cars released for rF.

    Self reflections look cool.

If you look at some of the screenshots of the basic stuff that came wth rf it looked terrible, wait until CTDP’s 2009 mod gets some screens.

  • Zenitchik

I would enjoy to see this car from the backside!
Details of the backend suspension are very nice

  • Serg Funke

wait till 6e66o get hands on that :sd: im sure he is able to make really good screens with that.

  • XaliaS

Still it’s a bit precarious releasing these medium detail shots when they know every rFactor fan is going to be scrutinizing the hell out of them. I’m in favour of more development transparency but there are downsides, and it’s one of the reasons for an NDA. The shots I’ve seen so far are very nice, though small. The shading looks a little over exposed on a couple of objects, if you ask me.

But please keep the screenshots coming! Once a fortnight would be perfect.

  • Mr. A

Mmmm, some higher res screens at full detail settings and less jpg-artefacts would be nice.

I just think that rfactor was never intended to be super realistic looking but was meant to be super realistic feeling which rfactor is fine at. If rfactor 2 going to look like this then I’ll get it.

  • drowsy

I personally don’t care if it looks exactly the same as rFactor. I do want half-decent AI and highly improved physics though, the torque model in rFactor is just brutally bad.

  • Uff

    Serg Funke:
but im not sure if Gjon say something about realtime reflections.

Have a look here, then.

Realistic driving with some eye candy thrown in would make rFactor 2 better than rFactor. They really need to step it up in the visuals department. The picture above looks like it could be a mod for rFactor. I hope they rework the main menu and AI too.

“HDR and certain post FX are planned, yes, but not yet implemented…”

Let’s see how they will implement them: it may be the first time we would be able to see some post FX used for a better driving experience and not only for being able to say “here it is a next gen game!”, imo! ^^

Can’t wait to discover all the surprises ISI have for us.

I have a secret agent among ISI, but shhh! Don’t tell them!

No, I’m joking: no spy story, just Facebook.

Those trees look really nice with shadows…

I’m sure it will be fantastic and very mod friendly, but still looks likes the glorified ISI game-engine coming from the late 90′s. :(
    Pretty disapointed so far.

  • Serg Funke

i cant stop dreaming how it will be

    Looks good.

Cannot wait to see how it performs. As long as they take out all the redundant stuff in rFactor like money, rogue safety cars and pitbay confusion.

Any upgrades to the physics will be warmly welcomed.

This picture doesn’t say much, a bunch of high quality textures, thats all.

  • mzso

I wish they’d do a full 1960s formula 1 season with all cars and tracks like GPL.
