rFactor 2 – Mystery Cockpit Preview

Image Space Incorporated has released a mysterious cockpit preview of a licensed vehicle that is due to join the simulation in the next few months.

The preview shows an unfinished cockpit of a modern Formula racer, featuring plenty of dials.

Take a guess which car this might be in the comments below!

Wheel is a match with Marussia

Looks like a big class of modern formulas. GP2 or Superleague Formula perhaps?

    Its definitely a Marussia wheel… :)

(alternatively search for “marussia f1 racing wheel” in google pictures and compare!)

I must admit i’m a little disappointed. I’m not a huge fan of open wheelers and it seems to be all ISI is adding these days. I want to race, not push buttons to adjust wings and boost my car for a bit. Would really like to see a decent gt car come along. I’m not trying to crap on it, it’s just not my thing :)

  • miklay.gabor

so it is a gp2 car then :)

    (in terms of performance)

Definitely the 2012 Marussia F1 car; the only one to have the vertical mirror mounts.

  • David Wright

We’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is we’ve got an F1 car. The bad news is its a Marussia.

The content comes when it comes. Right now there are a few open wheelers, next year there might be months where you only see GT cars. It’s going to vary.

I guess we’ll have to wait for WSGT2 to get enough GTs for our liking…

  • Nathan Robinson

@Timothy Wheatley Thanks Tim. In the end it’s all in my personal preference and nothing to do with you guys. Either way I’m enjoying your sim more than any other right now :)

  • Juhan Voolaid

I would like a decent rally car. Subaru Impreza for example.

  • Eric Zehnder

Are you planning on being in Beta for several months next year? I thought it was supposed to be 6 months…

  • Anonymous

Hmmmm, as much as i like rf2, the ever lasting beta is a bit disappointing. Progress is very slow.

  • punkfest2000

I’m a GT guy too, but you can’t complain about more cars being added.

  • Explosive Face

Next year??? The beta was supposed to end three months ago. Instead we haven’t seen a new track for almost four months.

  • Anonymous

I would really hope that what comes next year is more of DLC pack that you guys mentioned otherwise if beta is going to last that long then development has gone down to snails pace…………

Whatever happened to optimizing the game itself? Bugs and FPS is still poor every build is +/- 10-15fps.

meanwhile the modding content is still very thin, tires/physics have no proper guide no modding group has even looked at game seriously yet. the list goes on and on.

I know I know you will say ISI is small development team but more and more it sounds like there is no end in sight for beta.

  • Anonymous

Wow, not only is this disappointing news, the attitude is even more disappointing. “It comes when it comes” and next year “months of GT cars” I’m a Life’r Tim, I thought you commited to a much faster pace when you introduced the beta. I like GT cars much more than open wheelers too actually! But, we’ll get what we get; I reckon!

  • Richard Hessels

Well at least nobody can complain about the handling of the car, when it’s indeed a Marussia.

  • Anonymous

you are not going to get an answer

But, we’ll get what we get; I reckon!

    thats right

  • GamerMuscle

I really enjoy some aspects of RF2 but as an overall package in its current state of development I think its quite disappointing.

    - The game still runs relatively slow ( compared to other Driving games)
    - The FFB with G25 and G27 is fundamentally broken ( Evan when changing the ini file)
    - The graphics look very much last generation ( despite some nice tracks and car models )
    - RF2 has similar low speed physics issues and over the limit physics issues RF1 has
    - Mod instillation is still a mess ( thought you can check for mismatches easer)
    - The interface and game UI looks and functions in a very outdated way.
    - Many of the cars currently in the beta sound terrible

I just wonder with the way things are going if people will still be attracted to RF2 , RF1 didn’t really have any competition when it came to modding or serous on-line racing.

Now games like Assetto Corsa not only look like they might have better FFB and physics than RF2 but also look allot better with laser scanned tracks and far more polished content out of the box. ( based on what was shown at gamescon)
And I think AC might pull allot of the modders away from RF2 if it works out as an open platform.

It even seems that some of the big leagues like FSR are reluctant to move over to RF2 due to allot of the top racers noting issues in the physics and the general unfinished state of the game.

I think RF2 will probably keep chugging along though though maybe not as relivent as RF1 became.

    Only time will tell !

Sadly i agree, if rF2 was being developed to compete 1-1 with iRacing, it would of went a long way.
Sadly better looking last gen approaches can only go so far.
I joined the beta and got a refund but i still plan on getting it when it’s out.

But you are right, with AC rF2 become less and less relevant and even if it develops the greatest tire model/ physics etc, It will fall into the Netkar pro hole.

However, if that extra dev time allows other small projects like GSC that would be great.
But their engine would need tweaking in many different areas to make it worth the trouble on current gen stuff.

Oh please…….An open wheel car that is 600 kg, has 750 hp, slick tyres, and has a TON of overall grip, is an amazing car, regardless if it’s a bad one like a marussia, or a good one that can lap 2 secs faster like a red pull

  • Kendra Jacobs

Isi’s definition of beta doesn’t mean it’s near completion and will have updates week by week, and updates will fix previous problems.

RF2 is in a prototype testing phase, updates aren’t guaranteed quickly, some updates introduce new things to be tested, these updates might not fix current problems, and they might even “break” certain things that previously worked ok.

That’s the problem, ISI made a mistake calling the game Beta, they should have called it either Pre Alpha, Alpha, Development phase or Testing phase, because it is not a Beta in the sense that most people expect when they hear the word Beta.

  • Anonymous

I hope it sounds like an F1 car. Rf2 sounds are not doing so hot atm.

  • Anonymous

The “small” studio luxury is not to have to set schedule when to end the beta phase.. it can go as long as they like ;p

  • Anonymous

will most likely have the same awful FFB (with a g25 or g27 anyway), awful low speed physics and no slip angle, straight from Rfactor 1.

Assetto Corsa is our only hope now.

  • Kendra Jacobs

lol who would give a thumbs down to a statement like that?
Some of you guys have serious hate issues lol

  • Kendra Jacobs

The FFB is like that because every single game filters their FFB, thats why the G25/G27 doesnt act in any other games like it does in RF2, because RF2 sends out RAW UN-FILTERED ffb data to the wheel.
By the way, you can filter that data in the settings if you would like, and then have great feeling ffb, only difference is that RF2 has it set on default to un-filtered, where as every other game has it filtered by default.
This un-filtered ffb unfortunately shows the flaws of out-dated gear driven wheels, but like I said, you can go in the settings, apply the filters and then it will be like any other game.
    Hope that helps :)
I find the low speed physics and slip angle stuff a definite improvement over RF1, but yes still has a bit of that weird sometimes harder to correct than it should be that RF1 has.
They still arent done with the contact patch of the tyre model though (and the entire physics/tyre engine obviously).
Yes, I too am super excited about Assetto Corsa :)

  • Eric Zehnder

Alpha would have been more appropriate, yes.

  • http://profiles.google.com/danielabbitt Dan Abbitt

I have a G27, my brother has a G25 and we both love the FFB we get. In comparison to rF1 I find it much, much better and I love the feedback I get (knocks / bangs when I go over a sudden surface change).

    It might just be us…

  • Marek Szymanski

maybe ISI looking at LFS dev,s team and think ; well they can do it for so long why not we … ,sorry its just me sarcasm alert big time,

    LOL good one

This article is a bit misleading. It says that the cockpit is a modern F1 car. But it’s a Marussia instead?
