rFactor 2 – Formula Two Gameplay Video

Following the cockpit previews released earlier today, ISI has now revealed a first gameplay video of rFactor 2′s Formula Two car.

The six-minute video gives everyone an idea of what kind of racing the new open wheeler will provide.

Build by Williams and Yokohama-shod, the Formula Two cars are powered by 1.8 liter turbo-charged engines, putting out 500hp. ISI is working in close cooperation with Formula 2 Two Chief Engineer James Goodfield to ensure maximum realism.

    It looks fantastic.

Ugly graphics, but still the best rF2 video I’ve seen so far. Seems like fun to drive this car.

  • Bobby

The AI was my biggest disappointment with rf1, but this looks a massive improvement, although I’m not sure what happens at 4 mins, they really back up a lot.

  • Max Pautov

    very nice job isi!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1711429307 Chris Wright

Yes I noticed that too, but this is still in beta so spotting these things and correcting them is the whole point of the exercise.

I’m going to agree with you on graphics, to some extent. Could say the same for GSC 2012, but that plays awesome. On the other hand you have F1 2012, which looks exceptional but is built by a dev team that considers a missing front wing to be of no aerodynamic consequence. You pays your money and you takes your choice. Alternatively just buy the lot, there’s something good in all of them :-)

Jesus christ, don’t listen to this with headphones on.

  • http://twitter.com/Martin_Keets Martin Keets

I think this happens when you don’t qualify properly. i.e straight to race. You sometimes get slower AI further up the field than they otherwise would be.

  • http://twitter.com/Martin_Keets Martin Keets

I think graphics look all right in this build. Personal taste I guess.

    Ahhh that screeetchhh!!!

  • jswarthoff

my ears are bleeding, I will turn that turbo hiss down.

  • C4

    psssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • David Wright

I don’t think the track or car cockpit were ideally suited to show off the graphics – both rather plain but overall definitely an improvement on rFactor. I’m sure the sound is realistic but I couldn’t live with it. You could use it keep teenagers, cats and squirrels away.

  • nameless

Rf2 is the best sim I’ve played.

Much better graphics than on previous ISI videos. Steering seems to be wrong so far though, because all Formula cars do move quite a lot when driven fast. As Martin Brundle described recently, Formula cars always feel like drifting slightly even when you just go through a veeeery long corner like old start/finish at Silverstone. The car is constantly moving and it is impossible to turn in your steering wheel and smoothly open it to the end of the corner, even grippy F1 cars can’t do that.

    Example here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGzrL5IvGoQ

Once the movement on the steering wheel looks like this, physics and steering is right. As long as it looks like in the video with easy-driving it looks a lot like some Codemasters Game…

I know every driver wants to drive as smooth as possible to get the best out of the car, saving tires and getting on the throttle safely – but it isn’t possible the way you can do it in rF2 yet.

  • stinkybritches

Graphics look a lot better than what I get from my system.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=512231406 Aaron Carlisle

LoL… You do realize most of his “driver input” in that video was actually shake from the bumps on the track?

  • Kendra Jacobs

lol ok they are not Assetto Corsa or Procade Cars quality graphics wise, but to go as far as to say they are actually ugly? lol come on talk about totally over exaggeratting. Im assuming you think all first person shooters are ugly aswell besides Crysis and Battlefield 3? lol

  • Kendra Jacobs

graphics are fine, especially in person when you view them in real life. Nothing totally exceptional about the graphics, but nothing wrong with them either. Too many people are just entertained but the simplest things like graphics like little childred, rather than pure driving and physics, its a freaking hardcore sim after all, learn how to drive the thing and shut up lol (not directed to you but people who are soooooo concerned about graphics).

  • http://www.facebook.com/humberto.roca Humberto Roca

OMG THE SOUND! my ears exploded!

  • http://www.facebook.com/triskele10 Peter Koch

    The graphic are very good.
When a look thru my window at home, it doesn’t look like Shift or pcars

  • Alan1ak

This looks seriously good to me.

same old boring shite from this troll

  • Anonymous

watch it in full hd guys!

  • Attila Kiss

That is not turbo hiss, that is transmission noise, and it is the main source of noise in most race cars. Inside an open seater you hear this and a lot of wind noise, the engine is less prominent, and offcourse you wear a helmet and earplugs.

  • Anonymous

Why people even need to answer to such comments is beyond me.
Do you guys think you can change a troll’s mind ?
    Just ignore the poor fella.
Maybe when we all stop giving him attention, he’ll get bored.
That’s true of all trolls, BTW.

    Live and learn.

  • http://twitter.com/ipitydafool Andrew Male

i have no idea what you are talking about.

  • Anonymous

    looks great – especially considering it’s Beta – :D

Heat haze off engines at start and waving flags looking good and natural. Nice FPS too – some chunky machine, I suspect.

Oh, and that moving cockpit cam makes me sick. I can’t believe anybody drives with it……not after a few bevvies at least. Crikey – it’s like driving a bobblehead.

  • Olivier Prenten

This could reconcile me completely with rF2 since I’m not happy at all with the progress speed! I understand they are a small team so I beg your pardon ISI but I’M DEFINITELY BACK WITH YOU!!! ;)

  • spamsac

So on a sim news site, on a story about an upcoming release, a link to another video and preview gets down votes. Can someone please explain? :-

  • C4

His original point was “graphics” / visuals though.

“Once the movement on the steering wheel looks like this”

Using physical steering rack force 1:1 on wheels is another topic… see the rattle over curb issues with some wheels in rF2.

  • Kendra Jacobs

You better not ever drive a race car in real life then lol

  • Kendra Jacobs

    me neither lol

  • Kendra Jacobs

Exactly lol, those games are overdone and softened, like so many modern games, half the reason why so much bloom, dof and blurring is used is to soften the image so that jaggies/aliasing and other graphic issues are less noticeable

  • http://www.facebook.com/Markofq Marko Jozef

In this RL video, I don’t hear that much(If any) whining from gearbox and turbo also ;)

  • Anonymous

Looks a lot better than the other cars in the game so far, but the display on the wheel is not very impressive (I have no idea if it is representative of the real thing though). And the sound is unbearable even if that is representative. I hope there is the ability to tweak individual sounds easily ‘cos that’s gotta go. Who wants a dentist drill squealing at them whilst trying to enjoy a sim race?

  • Arie Beuker, de

I had a real sense of driving here. Must be because of the good steering on behalf of the driver. Keep this kind of stuff coming! In fact, what i wanted to point out… it is not like other movies where one clearly sees a gamepad at work.

  • C4

Well, you also got some likes :)

Guess some people just find it not appropiate to link to another site on a news site comment section…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=512231406 Aaron Carlisle

Which is cured by tweaking your steering torque filter. Old news.

  • hoodge1

This sim just blows my mind. It’s like an addiction to drive and to stop and call her a night. I have been so impressed with the FFB and feel of this it honestly is keeping me from my other favorite sim being iRacing. The feedback I get from my wheel is just soo much better then I thought was amazing with iRacing. The breaking is a dream as well.

Ya the cars like in real racing can loose control and do the spin around, but ISI have proven that by working and concentrating on physics first and leaving the final paint and wax job for last, that they know how to build a sim from the ground up. The AI is mindblowing as well since Build 107. Really I cannot find a lot of things to gripe about this beta where it is at on my end with my PC rigs and racing gear.

  • hoodge1

Ya Tim Wheatly said they fixed that saw making sound. Irritating to say the least. When we get it, it’ll be fixed. Did your ears bleed from your headphones with that sharp sound. nails on chalkboard..lol’s.

  • hoodge1

Olivier, I’d rather let them take as much time as they want to get this engine perfect for not only us racers, but the tools the modding teams will get access too will definately show much higher quality grade tracks then RF1 could only dream of getting. I loved rF1, but with the aweful AI, I only use it for league racing.

Looking forward to some single player AI racing and these AI cars are some of the best looking, most realistic, well behaved cars I’ve seen to date. Always loved Simbins Race07 AI cars. Amazing. These rF2 cars i think are better, and sure to even improve more yet.

No I hate rushed games of any sorts. The beta is addictive enough to try to stop and quit for a break as is.. I’m more then happy to give em the time needed to turn this into the next best sim on PC along with AC, and Simbins project is looking amazing as well. Cheers.

  • hoodge1

Neck muscles a big area drivers need to work out on. Gotta be extremely lean and fit to bounce around in a car for 2 hrs straight. Hats off to the pros that can do it.

  • hoodge1

I’ll drink a beer to that statement. And to think it’s only gonna get better from here out..Now THIS is what you call a simulator.. Gonna throw this one in here: And NOT Pcars. Just the FFB feel in rF2 says out in a load roar: “Simulator”.

  • nameless

indeed, its the most raw and immersive sim i’ve come to experience.

  • Anonymous

Why? You have to have a bobblehead? Err…no.

    :D

  • Roo3005

Lol! And you’ll also hear Martin Brundle complain when the drivers are seesawing at the wheel as its not smooth. If it took that large and amount of sudden corrections to drive a sim it would be impossible as there is not enough feedback, he’s reacting to feedback through his whole body (plus bumps in the road forcing the wheel to move)

  • http://twitter.com/WallyMasterson Wally Masterson

I tell you what, the head movement looks great. Note to self: download the latest build and see what’s been happening!
