rFactor 2 – First Car Preview

Posted on March 3rd, 2009 in

The item about the first ever screenshot of ISI’s upcoming rFactor 2 has created quite a buzz – Here’s more to keep the craze going as I stumbled across what looks to be the first ever car preview of the new simulation.

rFactor 2 is not just present on Facebook but also on Twitter. And while there’s not much there yet, the Twitter page includes the shot you can check out below.

We get to see the Panoz Roadster, sitting in the simulation’s showroom. In the lower right, the typical rFactor upgrade-option selections can be seen. As soon as there’s something new on rFactor 2 you can find it here. Until then, keep the speculations going

Actually, this has to be a panoz roadster. Wouldn’t be surprised since they’ve got the license.

    OMG i am getting excited!

The Panoz Roadster like a Caterham with steroid :sd:

It is excellent that include real cars.
The Panoz group owns several circuits like Sebring, Road Atlanta and Mosport, I hope you also get the license!

Thanks a bunch for figuring out the type of car.

I´m not sure about the Paonz track license even being available as iRacing seems to have that covered. No idea if they have an exclusive license though…..

  7. Fisico

    Not sure about exclusive rights.
For example, Road Atlanta also aviable in Forza Motorsport 2.

Wow its getting exciting now! Looks like “self-shadowing” is a new feature, hopefully its not only available in the showroom.

Reminds me of Midtown Madness lol.

From the iRacing FAQ about licenses: “That said, all of our licenses are non-exclusive, leaving our partners free to do business with anyone they choose. Locking up properties doesn’t serve our interest, that of our partners or internet racing in general.”

The Shadows definatly look cool
Not sure what to think of the reflections on the car though.
Hard to tell if they are dynamic,
it´s a showroom pic after all.

Now we have a picture of a track and a picture of a car.
Let´s see a picture of a car racing on a track :sd:

Good news about the license stuff then, god I would kill for Mosport and Road Atlanta to be part of rF2’s stock content

It’s all looking very promising

it can be seen in interviwe with GJohn ? whatever , he said that the main changes in RF2 will be graphics plus some slight physics upgrades and tyres grip upgrades (physics), so i think they will include all modern technology in graphics that can be easyly adjusted :)

  15. UncleChuckle

No mention of the promised AI upgrade they were working on then? That they said “We can’t include it in the last patch but it’ll be in RF2.”

Given what a disappointment RF is, sure it’s a pretty picture, but it ain’t worth a damn if there’s no weather, no AI, pitiful FFB etc…

when can i play rFACTOR 2?

  17. GeraArg

    FFB? and realfeel…
Is MUCH superior than any game of Simbin

As far as I can recal from the SRT interview Gjon mentioned the following features:
    - new dynamic lighting and shadows system including shadows of the clowds. Shadows would also influence track temperature in the given spot
    - dynamic weather
    - animation (moddable)
    - better FFB
    - improved tire model along with many other things ISI recently developed making commercial software (rF pro?)

+ some sort of mod managment system.

Realfeel is good if you have time to fiddle around with it all the time with every mod you download.

Better FFB implementation is important to keep people like myself who have limited time to enjoy their hobby. As much as I like rFactor, GTR2 and Evo let me drive cars right out of the box with decent FFB feel. Very few rF Mods come with Realfeel settings that I get something as or more affective from without having to waste time tinkering with settings.

There is nothing stopping something like Realfeel existing in rFactor 2 for those who want to get it just right, but for me and many others it must have better stock FFB!! (as I’m sure it will)

I love rFactor and GTR Evolution. They are realistic and fun, but really could use a face lift. It’s been too long.
I’m not really impressed with the picture, considering that the car isn’t nearly as detailed as it could be. rFactor 2 probably won’t beat GRID in the visuals department, but I really hope that they improve the rendering system a lot, adding some advanced shading techniques.

Ooh, the third shot shows some nice fog effects. Looks like we could have some realistic weather effects in this one.

  23. 6e66o

    Cool Pics again,
but the Fog doesnt look like something rF(1) couldnt do too.
Except it appears and disappears dynamicly, that would be cool :)

Looking at the first Picture, i really hope the Tire barriers are deformable/movable,
they look very much like it :sd:

DAMN! I choose to sleep and go to university, and THIS is what I miss?!!??! 4 new shots, including cars?!?! DAMN! I’m never doing any of that stuff again :sd:

But anyway, the new shot of Spa looks great, very atmospheric. And It looks as if there are shadows cast by the foliage as well, which when combined with cars self-shadowing, should kick ass in the cockpit :happyevil:

But again, like GeGGo said, I’m not too sure about the showroom reflections. Lets hope they’re different ingame.

The interior detail looks nice, and the car itself is sweeeeet!

Lookin’ forward to this tooo much now, after such a small media release… :3

Looks very promising! I have to agree, even though it is only images it looks like there might be movable track objects.

Dynamic self-shadowing is nice too.

  26. tezuka_18

That Lexus demo had realfeel in the interface so I hope ISI learned their lesson with ridiculous Canned FFB

    Everything looks great otherwise :sd:

  27. tezuka_18

The replay dynamics were also very weird in RF1
