rFactor 2 – First Camaro GT Preview

Image Space Incorporated is continuing their push for licensed content in rFactor 2, revealing yet another upcoming car.

During the past weeks, the Corvette C6.R, the Marussia Formula One car and the Nissan GT-R have been revealed. These are now joined by the Chevrolet Camaro GT below.

Slowly but steadily, the title is receiving a healthy field of sports cars to race against as the Nissan 370Z GT is already available in the open beta title as well.

Woohoo. FIA GT3 car, made by Reiter as well, good day for simracing

The Nissan GT-R is available already. Looking forward to this car!

Corvette and Camaro are done. No more cars for me, thank you.

SLOWLY is definitely the right word.

Is it normal for software to be in beta for more than a year (Google aside)? I didn’t think it was. ISI should just admit they were short of funds so released an under developed product that would take years to finish. I appreciate the work they have done but feel slightly duped by the pace of development.

They should hold on getting car licenses and get first some better graphic artists. Those who are working there right now are doing a very poor, half-baked job. No car coming out from them look better than “meh…”. rFactor 2 is getting more and more irrelevant as PCars, Asseto Corsa and Racing Room Experience are getting more and more interesting for many fresh reasons (GFX, physics, just spanking new approach).

Looks nice! Looking forward to this and the vette!!

This just boost my motivation for finishing a coming track :)

This just boost my motivation to fallow you!

    Any hints? :D

rFactor2 looks great and very immersive in 3D

Out of car screenshots do rFactor2 zero justice as this is not where the sim shines. Although when you’re on track, racing, in motion, I personally think it’s much more immersive than iRacing or PCars.

    Pre-alpha:
Refers to all activities performed during the software project BEFORE testing. These activities can include requirements analysis, software design, software development, and unit testing. In typical open source development, there are several types of pre-alpha versions.

    Alpha:
The alpha phase of the release life cycle is the first phase to begin software testing AKA RFactor 2 and Project Cars. In this phase, developers generally test the software using white box techniques (whatever that means lol). Additional validation is then performed using black box or gray box techniques , by another testing team. Moving to black box testing inside the organization is known as alpha release. (Ignore the white, grey, black box stuff, probably some internal stuff that doesnt concern us). Alpha software can be unstable and could cause crashes or data loss. The exception to this is when the alpha is available publicly (such as a pre-order bonus), in which developers normally push for stability so that their testers can test properly (that is all totally Project Cars and RFactor 2). THE ALPHA PHASE USUALLY ENDS WITH A FEATURE FREEZE, INDICATING THAT NO MORE FEATURES WILL BE ADDED TO THE SOFTWARE. At this time, the software is said to be feature complete. RFactor 2 and Project Cars are not at this stage yet as they still have features and fundamental software changes going on constantly, and so both are still totally in Alpha stage.

    Beta:
Beta generally begins WHEN THE SOFTWARE IS FEATURE COMPLETE. Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues.

Note: Some software is kept in perpetual beta—where new features and functionality are continually added to the software without establishing a firm “final” release. AKA iRacing, and supposedly RFactor 2 will be like this as well.

As you can see Andrew, in the traditional sense, Project Cars is actually an Alpha, and in no means a Pre-Alpha, and RFactor 2 is also an Alpha and by no means a Beta.

So in general, a BETA means the game is just about finished, is all feature complete, everything is done, they are just spending the last 3-6 months fixing all the last minute bugs (like Battlefield 3 was, which was a true beta), CLEARLY RFactor 2 is not at that stage, and therefore in no way a Beta yet. Now if you bought RFactor 2, and didnt realise after the first time playing it that it wasnt even close to complete in any sense, and therefore not an actual BETA yet, then I dont really know what else to say.

Ya right, if you know anything about driving you would realise that the only thing that has a chance of beating RFactor 2 from that pov is just Assetto Corsa. No big deal, just buy both.

Plus, RFactor 2 is said to be long term supported, ISI also said the graphics engine is DX11 upgradeable, and will be done in the future after release.

With everything maxed out on triple monitors i find it VERY immersive. Spa is very atmospheric, gives me chills.

Well, I’m from Denmark… have only done one track before in 2009, it won two awards and have never been ported – think it’s time to give it new life in rF2 :)

Thank you for such an informative post. That’s exactly the situation.

¨Sometimes you have to ignore what the developer labels the product, and just come to your own conlusions”

Not sometimes, always, and not only about development, but everything else that matters for you… That’s the only way not to get fed BS in this life ;)
