Realistic Helmet View – Preview Video

Zeuchoa is working on a realistic helmet view for rFactor, using the popular TV Style plugin. Zeuchoa claims that his version is the most realistic due to the helmet not moving anymore and working sunlight effects on the visor.

You can check the soon to be released view out in the video below as Felipe Massa takes us around Interlagos.

The glares on the lens are impressive.

I don’t particularly like the greenish hue and unfortunately it doesn’t really move with your head.

    One word , WHY?

  • ermax18

It does move with your head. You just need TrackIR to actually move your head. :)

OK – that glare is seriously impressive! Nice work!!

I really dislike these helmet views. Face it – when you wear a helmet you see “out of it” almost as if you weren’t wearing it. If you concentrate enough you may notice left and right edges of the helmet, but only if you concentrate on your peripheral view field. Upper and bottom is hardly seen, it can be seen only if you move your eyes up and down alot. Again, simbin helmet view is terrible, this here isn’t bad but again it doesn’t look very realistic to me. Even if it would been realistic, it would be disproportional, imagine if you play on 42” monitor, how big would that helmet be – if it existed in RL it would be big enough to climb into it… IMO it doesn’t add to much to the immersion factor, nor to the reality. If someone wants realistic helmet view, go buy helmet! :)

PS. Zeuchoa, this is very good work by means on quality of textures, glare and lens.

The glare’s a simple cubemap. Nice implementation, though.

@lovretta.. I agree. If anything to be realistic there should be a subtle darkening at the edges which would be barely noticeable. This kind of thing is more suited to a console arcade racer than a sim imo.

Hi six.degrees. Even if ti had been subtle darkening of the very edges, even then i don’t consider it realistic. Hard to explain it with my english speaking (dis)abilities…
I’ll try. First, all you look into is flat monitor. You see EVERYTHING thats displayed on it.
Wearing a helmet, you dont see IT. Simple test: do you see your nose? No you don’t, only if you focus your brain onto peripheral lower botom of your view field.
The darkened edges would work only if we could have some rounded screen, or some huge tripple-monitor alike setup.

Quite correct. My suggestion was only for people who insist on having some kind of overlay, really :P I prefer having a clear view – cockpit views in sims are (unrealistically) restrictive enough as it is!
