Real-Time Racing – More On The Mysterious Legend

About a week ago, iOpener announced that they were able to sign a world-wide known race driver to join their Real-Time Racing beta test. Ever since the announcement, the community played guessing games which driver the RTR beta testers will be able to face.

Pretty much everyone has been mentioned, including past F1 drivers and other high-profile motorsport persons. iOpener is still not able to reveal the identity of the driver, they´re giving everyone a little hint to the right direction though.

The driver won’t be driving a modern-spec racing car but a more classical vehicle that made him “fly” for years. Who can piece the evidence together?

RTR beta testers will be able to race the legend at Zolder soon. If you don’t want to miss your chance to race against the mysterious pro, make sure to pre-register for a RTR beta key here.

    Niki Lauda? :sd:

    Just kidding no idea

  • f0xx

Hmm the only “flying” car I can remember now is the Mercedes CLK GTR.

Mark Webber and Peter Dumbreck “flew” with it but that was only 10 years ago..

well , let me try… Whenever i see the word ” Fly” i think of a multi colored Marcos lm 600. A legend Marcos driver would be the Dutchman ” Cor Euser “. Coming to think of it .. he has been driving the car for years… even now.

  • Simulationsfanatiker

A driver of the “classic” 997 RSR Flying Lizard Porsche :sd:

But in the info on the website it states that the driver has to prepare etc for the best event of the year. Also Cor Euser is not so really well known…

    I think Jacky Ickx..

Well, Simbin have joined this gig, remember.

And what do we know about simbin?

They are past masters at underwhelming.

“Project Niki Taki Toki” – Forums “ooh, it could be F1, it could be HD super douper new graphics and physics engine…it could be GTR3″

Or it could be the same crappy 5 year old engine with a few nondescript Volvos in it. Or it could be a buggy 360 game.

I suspect, as usual, the ability for folk to imagine something far greater than they can deliver will still apply now…just don’t get too excited.

  • michael

Oh and fly is most likely flying Finn…

  • Raikku

    Pertti Kuismanen?

  • msater

Jackie Stewart or Juha Kankkunen spring to mind, although I suspect it’s none of these.

I’m leaning towards Juha Kankkunen because he was a rally champion, and rally drivers ‘fly’ and a lot of people suspect that the new RTR game is a rally game.

he is a regular at the Zolder track , they practise there with the Ford GT. so it could be. isnt he 66 years old? .. that would make a racing legend. but again.not so well known.

    Raikku: Pertti Kuismanen?

  • stabiz

You cant call someone a racing legend when 99% of us would say “Kuismanen who?”

  • UncleChuckle

    Derek Bell.

The CLK GTR never raced at Le Mans. The CLR was the car that flew. The CLK LM was the car from the previous year.

  • Marlbro

Someone who drove for Arrows? Riccardo Patrese perhaps.
Or maybe someone who drove for Eagle.

  • N0body Of The Goat

Mikka Hakkinen? (no doubt spelt wrong… only just surfaced from bed)

  • petrolhead

Just had to register to take part in this guessing game

“Flying” to me means he’s a “flying finn” but who?
I don’t think it’s a rally driver so it’s not Kankkunen, Mäkinen, Grönholm or any of those guys. It can’t be Häkkinen or Rosberg either. That would be too good to be true…!! It can’t be Mika Salo since he’s busy with NASCAR. The only flying finn left I can think of is Jyrki Järvilehto. Not sure if he can be described as “world-famous” but that would be my guess.

  • MDJ

Hm…Alan McNish & the Audi R8 (LMP1) or perhaps Christophe Bouchut and the Dodge Viper?

  • krakpot

    Thierry Boutsen?

  • Victor_RO

    UncleChuckle: Derek Bell.

Probably the most sensible guess. 11 years of driving variations on the Porsche 956/962 theme and definitely “flying” in them.
