Real-Time Racing – FIA GT Event Coming Up

Posted 4 weeks ago in

Less than nine hours from now, the next stage in Real-Time Racing’s beta test phase will be launched as 5000 beta testers will be racing against real race driver Bas Leinders.

For the first time ever, sim racers will virtually join a practice session of the FIA GT championship as Leinders will be driving his iOpener enabled Ford GT in the series’ practice session at Zolder tomorrow morning, chased by real and virtual competitors. In anticipation of the event, iOpener has released for high resolution previews of the Ford GT car that will be used in the session tomorrow.

The event is another puzzle piece in my earlier-voiced theory on how iOpener’s and Simbin’s efforts could very well lead to a new FIA GT simulation. Earlier this month, iOpener staff was present at the FIA GT’s Paul Ricard round and the permission to have iOpener’s technology installed and used during an official FIA GT practice session hints towards a growing partnership of all parties involved.

If you´re interested to join the RTR beta test in the future, you can pre-register for a beta key here, new keys will be giving out on a regular basis.

I would like to point out how every single beta selection is ridiculous. I have signed up for countless beta’s and have never been chosen for any one of them. My friend signed up just before the latest selection and got an email with a key the next day. I signed up as soon as they announced it, and never got a key. BS. Not to mention he didn’t even want it, nor is even going to try it.

Well he shouldn’t have signed up then. Bitch at your supposed friend for stealing a spot from someone who actually wanted it. Your friend is a gaping infected asshole.

I’ve been picked for the beta, but can’t say anything as I’m NDA’ed. And I signed up on the day it was announced as well.

Very curious to see how this works.

So it is the same old engine and graphics after all?

If they have done nothing innovative with the physics or FFB on those laser scanned tracks you can call this another Simbin flop.

I am very disappointed actually. i sort of worship the Zolder track, but in these shots it looks a bit weird , and dated. I would still prefer the GTL version. Laser scanning seems not to guarantee a realistic look. The track and three lines look nothing like the real thing. also the Curbstones are non realistic. i guess the laser scanning just involves the track coordinates. I hope we get the RMT version ready early 2010, so i can finally show how it should ( and does) look. appart from that, i am curious how the sim will run in realtime. i do like the RTR concept.

We still haven’t had anyone explain exactly how real racers and virtual racers can mix on a track. Surely seeing and responding to other drivers is as much a part of racing as anything. I’m intensely curious how the mechanic actually works, but all we get is vague marketing bullshit.

fear its just another mod and feels crap like race07/evo/on. Only support for iopener is there, so maybe ai is smarter. I should not get my hopes up.

Presumably this is not the new game, just testing the iopener concept on the old platform. Rather like iRacing used NR2003 in their early tests.

However, it does seem possible/likely that Simbin may have made progress with the FIA GT licensing issues – if only with GT3. Though GT3 does seem to be the success story at the moment, the races are only 1 hour long and Spa doesn’t seem to be on the calendar so no 24 hour racing to worry about. I suppose until we see a Ferrari or Porsche in the trials we won’t know for sure.

If you’ve made that opinion from being a beta tester then you should be involved in helping to improve RTR not slate it on another forum.

I can’t say anything as I’m not allowed to, but this is a very interesting project in it’s very early stages.

GT3 included in a new FIA GT game would be great (it would also add extra tracks normally). I love this championship!

I will be spectating tomorrow in Zolder, wonder if I will see some virtual cars passing on the track :p :p :p
