Many fans of open-wheel racing mods for rFactor are still missing moving arms in the simulation. While some try to solve the problem by attaching static arms to the wheel, Alberto Fontana has come up with a much more realistic approach – For replays at least
Thanks to some clever video, editing, Alberto has put himself into the simulation as he can be seen driving a Honda F1 car around the Nürburgring – A very creative idea!

Somebody needs to tell him he’s rubbish at driving, he’s even worse at video editing and he’s wasting his life. I think that will compliment nicely to his “1st place of the internet” ego.

One Asshole, Two Assholes, Three Assholes,Four Assholes.
Wow you guys are rubbish and posting and maybe you should all waste your time by insulting more people on the internet.
Guy was making a joke about the fact we have no moving hands in rfactor that look good, so he did a quick edit. I found it amusing and creative, at least he’s not wasting his time being a complete dick to others on the internet.

Okay, for some more positive notes now because clearly some of you haven’t mastered the art of keeping your heads shut when you’re not helping: I think it’s fun and very creative and hope the bloke has a lot of fun with his way of experiencing rFactor. If only I could do this with my Vette but that obviously has a roof so …

Clever idea for a fun video. He really should have been wearing a helmet though :) Imagine if with a webcam, games gave you the option to superimpose yourself in the game like this.
As for the first 4 responders to this topic, you’re pathetic.
What a bunch of bitter cretins and such a shame that people like you are infecting a place like VirtualR.
aaaaaaw, are you pee’d off because you saw the title of the topic and it wasn’t what you thought it was ?? Is that it ?
To use words like retarded, horrible and rubbish for something that is clearly just a light-hearted video is really quite low and lame.
Montoya really needs to start deleting responses like that because they are beyond acceptable negative criticism.
@carbonfibre, please show us your driving and creative video skills. Sounds to me like you are a master at both !

Uh oh! Sense of humour malfunction! I must remember to use the smiley’s otherwise it’s serious business here at VirtualR.
[This bit is serious] However, I don’t care what the content or idea is when I see self-promotion or ego pumping in any video. I will shoot that person down if the subject in question is relevant to my interests. A general FYI; nobody cares about your stats. [/This bit is serious]

Don’t give me that rubbish. You know how and when to use smileys. If you meant that in a humourous way, it would be obvious. You clearly had a pop at the guy.
How can you claim he’s “wasting his life” when he spent maybe an hour of it making this video for a bit of a gag ?
So… you like to shoot people down who have ego issues eh ?
Can’t just leave it alone or ignore it ? Isn’t that an ego issue in itself ? Yours ?
Besides what has this video got to do with self-promotion or ego ?
Also aren’t all the screenshots, video reviews, teasers, renders etc all self-promotion ?
This isn’t the place for you it would seem.
Just take the video for what it is, a bit of fun. Jeez, I thought I was the edgy one.

My Girlfiend had a the original SIMs game a long while ago which she got face factory with, which allowed you to take a pic of yourselves front sides and back and transfer it to the game so the sim was you,I thought at the time it would catch on into other games and might be quite good fun, rather like having number plates and side window stickers with your name on in some race games, but it never happened,
Deffo would make it seem more individiual, but I guess most race sims would be in crash helmets anyway so there would be no call for it

i strongly disagree about getting an admin to ban over-negative comments, jesus. this isn’t Stalinist russia. theres nothing wrong with banter, i dont care what the level is.
however – i can’t believe people were criticising this vid, wtf? It was interesting to watch, purely because you got to see the future – i.e. what it will be like when we all have cube wraparound displays so we’re in the game – i thought it was an interesting glimpse of the future. the car looked so much more connected when you’re looking at the actual steering wheel turning, rather than the crappy ingame wheel in replays.
cool vid, and who cares if its self promotion? how ridiculous.

By over negative, I mean things like calling the guy a retard etc. There’s no call for that. Besides, freedom of speech is way overrated.
Its not nice to sift through comments like that. Theres other places for that crap.
Personally, if I see a news item posted that I may not like or have no interest in, I don’t take the time out to actually post just so I can berate and/or insult those involved. I just move on to the next item.
Getting into a debate is a whole other thing ;)
@Pugamall: Yeah whatever happened to having your name on cars and side windows etc ? I’m sure they could make that happen these days and its a small detail that really adds to the atmos. Face Factory sounds cool.
Would have been better if Face Factory was one of those products that could be used in multiple games if they had support for it. Companies are missing out on cool stuff here :)
On a slightly different note I wanna know why GTA IV has more driver to car animation that any sim out there ! :)
Getting in/out, body movement when you turn, hit something or steer. Hell you can even get blasted out of the windscreen :) Come on NFS:Shift, let Nico Bellic drive ! :D

Oh, it’s with the “let’s just cheer for everything attitude” here… Sorry for my critical faculty… And I kind of second carbonfibre’s remarks regarding the ego pumping-thingy. Don’t get me wrong, I like self-irony for examble and a bit of self-irony would have fitted this video better than the “look at me 1st prize of the internet stuff”… Again sorry for the critical faculty – demonstration? I didn’t see any, just some video editing.
Where I’m from that’s not a demonstration. Humbleness is a great value in my culture..,
that over arrogance, for sure!

Overated? All kinds of wrong. I agree the first few comments were uncalled for, and posts like that do make reading comments a pain in the ass. But the minute comments start to getting deleted is when I stop using this site.
Best thing would be to implement a vote system that many sites and blogs use now so coments can be voted down and hidden, but still viewable should you want to read them
F1Racer
June 17th, 2009 at 11:15
Bjorn, this has nothing to do with cheering for everything.
There just seems to be certain individuals here who look for the negatives in things first and post accordingly on a regular basis.
Negative criticism is fine but surely it makes sense to keep within certain boundries. There is NOTHING on VirtualR that gets posted that requires that kind of commentary.
I fail to see what, in this video, justifies the comments in the first few posts. I saw this video as nothing more than a bit of a laugh.
In no way at any point was I watching it thinking of ‘ego-pumping’ or self promotion. I just saw it for what it was.
And who cares if he used the word demonstration ? Save your nit-picking for something relevant like tracks and cars like any normal sim-racer.
It was certainly a demonstration of a method of how to composite a real sim driver onto a replay of an rfactor lap.
@FooAtari: sorry to burst your bubble, but freedom of speech is an illusion. You think you have it but you don’t.
Which is good for placating the people who think they do.
For example, Americans like to play the freedom of speech card but try going up to a policeman for a laugh and saying you’re going to kill the President. Then see how free your speech is :)
That blog system sounds interesting. I think Ive seen the ting you mean where you get thumbs up and thumbs down icons on comments.
Deleting comments don’t bother me one bit. I`ll know if one is deleted its for a good reason.
I wont go around shouting that my liberties are being violated or any of that type of nonsense. Some ppl here need to STFU before they say something that degenerates into a proper argument and then people will soon start complaining that they dont want to read all that stuff. So stop it before it starts, I say.
End of Demonstration.

it’s simply a demonstration of how realistic is rfactor, and how hard is going fast.

F1Racer: You’re blinded if you don’t see any signs of why carbonfibre could be calling this ego-pumping. “Sponsored by bla. bla., X poles, X wins, Y podiums… etc.”. New world superstar of braggin’ was seriously my first thought.
I agree that some of the first comments were uncalled for, but being sceptic is not going across the line or is it???
Naska: Again, has being sceptic become a sin? And no I’m not one of them who have said you’ve wasted your life ;) Obviusbly not cause your english is fine for example, so don’t say “sorry for my bad english”. Nothing to be sorry for, dude :)

June 17th, 2009 at 20:10
Well if you feel you have to make an issue of such a petty thing like that because it somehow offends you then maybe being blinded to it is a good thing. To me thats just a bit of artistic licence. If he has an ego thing, why would it even bother anyone enough to take the time to point it out ? Why do you car that much ? You need ego to do that also because yours has been put out by it somehow.
And where does being sceptic fit in ?
Bjorn
June 17th, 2009 at 21:24
It fits all over… Not only on this bloody video, but in the sim community, the real world and the societies within etc. It’s just a way of perspective in life and some have different ones (you and I obviously). It depends in which culture you’re grown up with.
Personally I like to have hint of sceptic view upon a lotta things, and then if I get possitively surprised by these “lotta things” because they weren’t so bad in the end, that’s a huge upside. That’s the way I look at it, keeps me up to have these “up-tours” (and no I don’t find I use too much energy being sceptic ;) )
Whatever dude, let’s just agree to disagree.
eiwfihaaa
June 17th, 2009 at 21:28
yeh…its good to be skeptical.
Its also good to put things into context.
this was quite CLEARLY a light hearted piece, suggested by the title itself, and who cares if he’s trying to promote? why do you care? do these petty things really affect you that much?
its good to be skeptical of course, but not for something as trivial as this, who the hell cares. the fact is, i’ve never seen it being done before, and it really showed the connection between the car ingame in rfactor, and the steering wheel, compared to when you see shots of people playing crappy games like forza with a wheel.
anyone who criticizes this vid on things like merit, artistic value etc… is being pathetic. get over it.
on the flip side i have no problem with using the word ‘retard’. its not that bad. i have no problems with any words really, people can use what they want. so if people are getting annoyed because of the language used in the first 4 posts, thats their problem, and their being petty and pathetic if it offended them in any way. get a grip.

You’re on to something here, eiwfihaaa…
This whole thing ran wild to the state of a debate… To start with I just posted a short, non-to-it other than a quick question towards some part of the “layout” of this youtube video… Nothing I ever imagined would set fire to this blaze of a debate. It just escaladed.
On one side I regret posting that short remark, but on the other hand it’s fine discovering that there’s still differences in this globalized world.

eiwfihaaa, yeah you pretty much said what I tried to say, only apparently a bit better. Seems like Bjorn thought so anyway.
) or a shop assistant or whatever. You know what I mean.
But lets get one thing perfectly clear here…. regarding your last paragraph… I am not offended or in any way sensitive to these kinds of words. As Ive said before on more than one occasion, I swear pretty badly by default and more than the average person. Every other sentence out of my mouth has an ‘F’ word in it. Its just habit and Im not proud of it. I have no censors, no barriers and no limits with the language I use in real life. Jeez, if I typed like I talked, I`d be banned from every c***ing forum that Im a member of ! :)
BUT… I wouldnt for example sit in a room full of strangers (which is what this plase is really) and start talking like that as if it was all ok. I wouldnt do it in front of a bank teller (well not normally
There are times and places. I just happen to think that on a social forum where we have all ages and types of people (some who may be more offended than others etc because it takes all kinds), that words like retarded are not acceptable. Its people who think it is ok that are contributing to this downturn in society. Freedom of speech wins over offending someone. Like its ok for me to say it so I will and scew whoever doesnt like it cos Im free to say it.
Being free to say something doesnt make it ok to say.
This has nothing to do with policital correctness either because I dont subscribe to that lunatic concept where people have to tip-toe around and reorganise the English language.
Like chairman now being stated as chairperson in case it offends those of the opposite sex. Mankind being changed to Humankind because some idiots (not retards) don’t see thate that ‘man’ was already a shortened version of HuMAN in that context. Who are these over-sensitive loons anyway ?
These are the people who need to get a grip.
This is about context as you said. Calling a guy a retard because he posted a fun video. I just see that as wrong.
Nothing to do with being offended or sensitive to it. It just ain’t cool.
Just needed to clear that up.
Stu
June 18th, 2009 at 01:25
Like the fact irony or sarcasm isn’t globally understood?
naska90 I appreciate your not from a English speaking country mate but it’s obvious what carbonfibre is saying in regards to quotes like: “this is not my best lap, i could be 0,5s faster. I just recorded the first good lap i made”… You beckon to be poked fun at when you’re clearly an excellent driver and quite the happy chap about your achievements, which distracts from the actual point of the video I think. Talk about being blown out of all proportion over a misunderstanding.
