Radical SR3 & SR4 for GTR2 – Released

RMi has converted the Radical SR3 and SR4 prototypes from RACE07 to GTR2, enriching the simulation with two nimble prototypes.

The cars come both with stock RACE07 physics as well as in a special RMi version, other improvements include additional graphic features like glowing discs and enhanced shadows.

I hope this also feature a check for the ownership of Race’07, otherwise, it’s against what SimBin asked about forward conversions only.

  • http://www.virtualr.net Montoya

As explained on NoGrip, this is a legal release because RACE07 was released more than 12 months ago which makes the forward conversion legal.

  • LensFlare

But still not very cool, in my opinion… I mean Race’07 is still on the market and being sold. Unlike GTR2 that you can hardly find anywhere.

  • http://simrace.toolbar.fm morning_wood

There is no legal “issues” with the release of this, I cannot comment further on the matter.

  • moving-target

    great mod!

    thx

  • Vkt

when can we see something from scratch? never i supose…

Well, I wish you would, because I don’t see how you could have no legal issue when they specifically disallowed backward conversions.

Could you please link to that statement from SimBin? Can’t recall having read it…

    Also, read here:

  • Slowest

The 12 month argument is not valid since Race’07 is being constantly improved with addons and released each time.

It hasn’t been 12 months yet, and with Race On coming, I don’t see the 12 months limitation coming soon…

This is then highly unauthorized conversion.

  • Simulationsfanatiker

I think the issue with the updates doesn’t quite relate to the “12-month-thing”. THIS particular car has been released more than 12 months ago.

WITH a DVD-check it would be legal but since there isn’t anything like this the mod is illegal!

  • http://simrace.toolbar.fm morning_wood

stop spamming forums with your BS

SimBin has made their position very clear, one year after release. SimBin follows these forums as do other vendors

Until we or this site recieve a removal order, or a cease and disist order the files stay.

If we could comment publicy on the agreement and authorization of these releases we would, but we cannot due to mutual cooperation and communication agreements bewteen our group, and the vendor. Doing so would violate several trust relationships and a contractual NDA

It’s not about the car, it’s about the platform. Like it or not, Race’07 is being released constantly as Slowest says.

So, it’s content is protected since SimBin still makes money with it.

And I don’t think RMi has any agreement with SimBin on this release. I would not see the logic if they were to accept that kind of backward conversion when they clearly made their position about forward conversions only.

  • zusje

Who have you signed an NDA with? With SimBin or with the Modgroup.

And could you or anyone point me to the 12 months rule? I never heard of it before, so i am interested in reading it.

    http://www.virtualr.net/simbin-issues-modding-statement/

That text doesn’t state anything with a 1 years rule.

Also virtualr said this in it:
VirtualR.net will not be endorsing, promoting or linking any straight GTR Evolution conversions that come without any form of protection that ensures they will only be used by GTR Evolution owners (i. e. CD-Check).

Hmm and that’s what they’re doing.

Sorry morning-wood, I really like your conversions from rF to GTR2 but I don’t like this Radical conversion, just because Race07 is still being sold and Simbin are still making money with it.

  • LensFlare

    Interesting info here:

    http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136700

Someone actually found the 12 months rule. It was posted on RSC but not by SimBin…

    Quote:

Conversion of content from their new titles for use in their older titles (e.g. RACE 07 to GTR2) is allowed only if it is verified that the user has both titles on their PC.

  • http://www.virtualr.net Montoya

Since it’s very much unlikely that RSC will violate Simbin’s rules, lets assume this 12 months rule is indeed in place.

The problem is that it is hard to tell wheter or not the Radicals are 12 months old. The initial release was more than twelve months ago, the most recent release was as part of STCC – The Game.

The questions is: Does this rule apply to the initial release or the most recent one?

    Complicated situation :weird:

  • LensFlare

But beyond that question, there’s another line that makes this perfectly illegal !

Conversion of content from their new titles for use in their older titles (e.g. RACE 07 to GTR2) is allowed only if it is verified that the user has both titles on their PC.

    So that’s it… 12 months or not.

  • http://www.virtualr.net Montoya

Ok, I will be pulling the download links until the situation is clarified.

  • LensFlare

(And to answer your question, the most logical thing would be to consider that this 12 months thing applies to the most recent release. Because it’s first of all to protect content that is actually hot on the market… And with each addon, Race’07 is hot again, if you follow my thoughts :) )

RMi offers closing words to this “issue”

12 months after “release”, fairly clear. Add-on’s are just that, Add-Ons, and you wont see any EVo content converted from us now, 12 months after the “release” of EVo or any Race07 “add-on”

In light of things we should have included a DVD check, which we may include in upcomming releases, and we respect VirtualR’s position and decisions.

We ( RMi ) do respect the vendor and original team who developed Race07. It is too bad that a few extremists are in the croud voicing thier opinion ( like a religion.. you have yours, I have mine ). Just because 2 or 3 persons do not like something does not make us or our offering “illegal” in any way.

We also never had intentions of releasing a “straight conversion”, and this is far from one. Additional features, enhanced graphics and 100% original physics were developed after hundreds of hours of research and development.

When we recieve notice from a Vendor, we will be happy to abide by any request made to us. Our contact information is public and available.

( evidentaly no one is mad a pilsbierbude.de for having their F3000 conversion available?

  • ermax18

I will add my name to the crowd of people that don’t agree with this release without a media check. The way I read the rules, which is a topic I have followed very closely for the past year, is that it has to be 12 months old AND have a media check.

Morning_Wood, I can understand that SimBin may privately give the okay on this conversion and not want the details to go public. But if I was SimBin and read your comment above that hinted about a private agreement, I would consider your “trust relationship” tarnished.

  • LensFlare

    hahaha ! Lol ermax

And it’s not “because 2 or 3 persons do not like something” that your conversion is illegal. It’s because:

1/ It is a conversion of copyrighted content which you didn’t pay for the licence.
2/ It doesn’t include the minimum respect that a “steam check” or dvd check would show.

Nothing to do with 2 or 3 people, believe me.

  • Maddmatt

“It is too bad that a few extremists are in the croud voicing thier opinion ( like a religion.. you have yours, I have mine ). Just because 2 or 3 persons do not like something does not make us or our offering “illegal” in any way.”

That’s pretty low of you to say. It’s got nothing to do with opinion. It’s your lack of reading comprehension. Don’t blame others for your wrongs.

The funniest part was that it would have been less work to make it as a mod for Evo/Race 07, where it would have been allowed. As much as I respect the work that goes into it, some common sense was lacking here.

As for that F3000 addon, that is hosted by another site that probably doesn’t care about the rules. Also linking to it from here was not a good thing to do, as you’re now making it available from VirtualR.
But maybe they have a disc check for Race 07, I can’t be bothered to try it.

  • http://simrace.toolbar.fm morning_wood

the content has been removed by RMi voluntarily

RMi wishes to remain in high standing with the community and vendors, there is no need for us to tarnish our good works or name. We will be releasing the physics mods for these to the Race07/EVo sometime in the future.

If and when we decide to make this public again, we will impliment a “verification check” for original content. We were under the assumption that the 12 months and “other things” were enough to satisify everyone, but alas…

We (RMi) offer our apology to the vendors in question with regards to any probems or issues this has caused.

    thank you,
    D.W

  • Slowest

Good, glad to see you came to your senses.

Hoping that RMi will release good mods in the future, respectful of copyrights and will have the success they will deserve.

Being a 2D artist / photographer myself, I am a bit touchy when it comes to defending authorships and copyrights.

Please remember at all times that using a content that is copyrighted, copying it, modifying it or more generally “messing up” with it is basically forbidden…

Some things might be tolerated, and you should already be thankful for these things, in my opinion.

But again, it’s nice to see that you’ve changed your mind after all.

  • Maddmatt

Well I look forward to the Race 07 version. Even though I don’t agree with some of these conversions I still respect and appreciate the work modders do, and an improved Radical would be great to have.

I love that car .but why the download link is broken ?
