Codemasters has finally released the PC demo version of their upcoming Racedriver GRID game. Players can try three different cars on three different tracks, including the BMW 320si WTCC at Jarama.
The demo is almost 1 gigabyte big and can be downloaded below. Have fun trying the demo, why not let everybody know what you think of it afterwards by using the comment feature?

Lets see if this improves on the dire and awful arcade-physics console version. Don’t see why it should but you never know.

everyone needs a fun racing game and i dont see sims as being totally fun, they’re more serious. GRID is gonna be great for fun and i dont get all you people moaning about it, its really annoying and it must really hurt the feelings of the producers as they work damn hard to bring you these games.

trebor901, the thing is, as fun racing games go, even this is bad physics wise. Especially if you compare it to the likes of McRae:DIRT.
Try the BMW for example. Its too fast and corners like an F1.
Arcade and fun is great but imo they got it wrong. So thats why I am moaning. I simply expected better. Heck even Racedriver 2 was better than this.
Yes they work hard, but they get paid damn well too.
Its not the same as criticising mod makers who give up their time for free.
Anyway mine has just finished downloading so lets see how the PC version stacks up against my XBox version… ding ding – Round 2….

Ok.. PC version is a better driving experience. Obviously this is down to the simple fact than a G25 on a PC is a far better option than a gamepad on an XBox.
The BMW although still very arcadey is now actually fun to drive.
The drifting?…. hmmm worse than the Xbox. With the Xbox version I can always initiate a drift with the handbrake. On the PC the handbrake just doesnt help steer the car at all, it just keeps it going fwd in a straight line.
Im not a good drifter but I managed far far better on the XBox than the PC just because of the handbrake.
Didnt bother with the Mustang yet but Im sure it will be ok.
Runs beatifullly on my rig too. No fps isues whatsoever at maxxed out settings (1680×1050 res). Although I do have a power rig (Quad Core Extreme, SLI etc..)
So overall, arcade fun with some nice touches (such as the spotter calling your name when he talks to you).

Does this demo have Starforce protection like nearly every recent Codemasters release? If so, I’ll pass.

This must be the biggest dissapointment in months .
Codemasters should quit creating racegames . they could better start a video company because the hyped teaser videos did there job. But the game itself is really worth nothing.
HDR makes it look like you are running 800*600 even in full HD . Phisics are non existant and even with everyting in PRO it still feels more arcade then need for speed. In general there is nothing wrong with releasing an arcade racer , but they should stop talking about Physics and realisme.

They have never said this was going to be a sim…I’ve talked with RFT since they had this game in development and he said they were never intending it to be a sim, and wanted to seperate from being sim.

its fun to drive . but WiX said it right , the game doesnt really sharp . but run smooth on e2160 , 2gb ram and a ati 3850 .

They wanted to seperate from this game being a sim or from all their titles ? If its the latter then that doesn’t bode well for their upcoming F1 2009 game.
Our only hope for a decent F1 sim is rFactor 2.

LOL! I remember the teaser-bit from Le Mans where the driver was talking about this game being close to the real thing, and I refused to believe it.
Now the demo is here, and its a pile of manure.
Kids today must be really, really stupid.

Well, we don’t know if Stuart Hall has ever played a PC sim.
People that only know games like Burnout or GTA or whatever will think it’s realistic because it has real tracks and cars…. it all depends on perspective.

Maybe there is hope for the physics, i saw a lot of *.xml files in the game folder. GRID Demo\cars\tyreGrip.csv is another one i found and with all “100″ changed to “70″ it feels a little better, at least the BMW.
(btw. in one forum i saw that RMI (the modders) will have a look at the settings-files, maybe they can do something for us simmers :-)

there’s nothing wrong with liking GTA, and the occasional blast on a non sim racing game cos i think its pretty sad if people refuse to play any games other than sims, they must have a very boring boring mind.
