RACE Pro – Demo Called Off?

Several gaming websites are reporting that the delayed demo of Simbin’s RACE Pro simulation for Xbox 360 might be called off completely now. All sites base their information on a news article on German website xboxstube.de, so this might just be another case of wrong facts spreading fast.

A complete cancellation of the demo is not unlikely though as Atari staff has been unable to comment on the demo’s status simply because they didn’t know what was going on themselves. With the American release being just seven days away, time for the demo is pretty much running out.

In related news, the Official Xbox Magazine has published its review of the simulation, including a bunch of new screenshots you can check out below. Another magazine article is due to be released in a few days, answering your questions posted here.

It’s basically the same as GTR Evolution, borrowing most of the art assets. There’s a new hud and hdr, and maybe a slightly better damage model. This should have been released on the PC. The gmotor engine is getting so old for us pc users.

Hmm…off to a bad start then.

Don’t think there’s any truth to that. An Atari official over on their French boards says the demo is currently with Microsoft (awaiting certification I’m guessing).

In any case, it looks like we’re getting the full game before the demo anyway.

A number of Uk stores are saying that they will be placing it on sale on Friday (13th). Including Game, Gamestation and Play.com!!!!

Check over at Race Department forums, there is a thread with several people confirming this:

kill4f00d this game uses the new Lizard engine by simbin… not the old isi gmotor.

The review looks pretty good. I’m not surprised on their comments on the graphics… Forza 2 is a absolutely beautiful game and tough to top.

“This is very much like one of the Caterhams you drive early in the career – it may not be the prettiest, but it goes like the clappers and handles like a dream.” Good, thats what I wanted to hear :sd:
As far as Lizard is concerned, who knows maybe they can get more out of it on the PC platform. But yeah, compared to other console games a lot of the screenshots do look a little underwhelming.

kill4f00d: Releasing exactly the same game than GTR Evo but only with a new game engine on PC would be a strategic error.
It’s far away better that we get a complete new game with some new content on Lizzard, even if it takes more time.

And yes, the demo is simply awaiting certification by Microsoft, but like for all the online demos, this process is longer.

About the graphics, it’s obvious that Race Pro uses much higher resolutions textures than Forza 2, so it can only look better.

PC’s have so much more Processing & Graphics power than a console I’m sure the next title will look better. Just remember the first screenshot of the Race07 BMW WTCC car at Brands Hatch in Lizard that we saw on the PC ages ago. (It’s on their website I think) It looked much better than Race Pro.

Also it’s their first effort with a console and I’m sure they’ll learn how to extract the most from it in future titles. Probably made a few compromises with Race Pro to ensure good performance from it.

If they cancel the demo many user won’t buy the game. They want to know if the game has quality as Forza2 or PGR4…

I think MS is hiding something or their afraid that this might be too much of a sim.I’m really interested in seeing if the force feedback is where it should be or did MS make them turn it down because of the inferior wheel they made. Either way I’m not buying until I test the demo first.
