RACE Pro – Damage Model Videos

New RACE Pro preview material has sprung up on Youtube, showing off more of Simbin’s Xbox 360 racing simulation.

The two videos below are remarkable not just because of the next-gen graphics but also because of the damage model shown. The guy driving has no idea what he’s doing at all, giving us plenty of time to check out the vehicle damage.

Even though the Lizard’s engine damage model does not look to be as extensive as Race Driver GRID’s for example, it seems to be a fairly step up from the current damage in gMotor 2.

gotta love console games, where you can start at the dam end of the grid and make your way up to first in the first lap and cut apex corners/bang doors to get there lol

To be fair you can do exactly the same thing in RACE07.

Gameplay wise it looks exactly the same as GTR Evo to me, which I suppose isn’t all that surprising considering Race Pro is more or less the exact same game ported to the new engine. Graphically it’s a big step up from the ageing gMotor engine, but definitely looks pretty rough in comparison to it’s competitors on the consoles.

Could have been in beginner mode
Can’t tell much about graphics with such poor video

It look excactly lige GTR Evo… And to be fair to the graphics: Is bloom better graphics? Not in my book.

shadows and light sources are however. Check the new thing they gor going for the next big patch for Eve-Online: “walking in stations”

    That calculated light effects… WOW!

Just watching the in car shots you can tell they’re using a gamepad. Having spent years using a wheel now, merely seeing that almost causes me physical pain. It’s like using a fork to eat soup.

    ibyte: Bloom is an atrocity.

    Wish you could edit:

And in fairness, the reason Codemasters damage model is better is because they have no decent physics underlying it to spend time on. Cars falling apart look cool in promo shots. Sadly for Codemasters that’s ALL they have.

well it loooks good.. i just cant imagine game reviewers rating it high because it will be compared to Grid and Forza and lack the “drift/story mode”, and car customizing  lol

  • UncleChuckle

Yes, because we’re all idiots who need to be drip fed a story and be able to paint our cars to make race sims enjoyable.

And people wonder why I game on the PC.

I think lumping Forza in with GRID is particularly harsh on the boys at Turn 10.. under the skin Forza is quite a sophisticated simulator, certainly leagues ahead of any other quasi-sim on console. Whether RACE Pro changes that I guess we’ll have to wait and see – it would be nice to see a video taken of someone who can actually drive playing RACE Pro too

if you ask me the game look good and bad!!! it’s there first try on the consoles the contact with other cars suck it would seem no matter how hard you hit a car from the back it would not slide off track and the contact sound is just nasty sound like a Japanese movie and am not even kidding
