RACE On – Three New WTCC Previews

Posted on August 4th, 2009 in

Simbin has released three new artwork shots of their upcoming RACE On title, showing several WTCC cars from the 2008 season in action.

RACE On has been announced to be released in September or October 2009, the title will include all RACE07 content and brand new stuff including the 2008 WTCC season, the Swedish Touring Car Championship, US muscle cars and the Formula Master series.

Update: The low-res Facebook previews have been replaced with proper high-resolution previews.

Hope they will include upgrade option for GTR Evo..

They will. The base for the whole series is RACE07. STCC, GTR Evo and RACE On are all add-ons to the core game, so they’re like Lego bricks.

Evn though I know ISI engine is not ‘friendly’ to turbos, I hope for some magic trick by Simbin and proper turbo modelling

Do modern racing turbos have much lag?

[Yawwwn]… Simbin’s really milking this old GTR2 cow for all she’s worth…this addon better be less than $20 or I’ll pass, I have already got musclecar and open-wheel mods galore. These guys need to start looking at the bigger strategic picture before it’s too late, their soon-to-be outdated sim engine is about to get blown into the weeds by rFactor 2 and NFS:Shift.

Well, they run 2.7bar of boost… honestly I don’t know. In my dad’s minivan :sd: the lag is big, BUT if you drive right you don’t even know it’s there.
What I am reffering to is not a ‘fixed’ amount of lag at given rpm (which can be modeled by shaping the torque curve) but a dynamic turbo simulation, independent of the engine.

LOL – You haven’t heard of their new Lizard engine then? Like rFactor2 it seems to be taking a while to arrive on PC but it is expected for 2010. However, I agree that the slip in release from Q2 to Sept/Oct – after Shift comes out – won’t do it any favours.

I know what you are referring to :) However, I would think that modern racing turbos are designed to keep lag to a minimum, so the absence of lag simulation isn’t so critical.

The Lizard engine…right… and Duke Nukem Forever is going to be released next week…

    lol…

Hmm… haven’t we seen these cars before? Like in the past 4 games/add-ons? The new content is what people are going to want to see. Not the same thing they’ve been seeing since race06.

but…but…but…It says TDI, so it must be so radically different that we need to buy it…..

Images are now up in full size here: http://www.race-game.org/raceon/gallery.htm

With regards to the Lizard engine it was said just this week that: “Lizard is still being tuned and refined and will not make it’s debut on PC in 2009, it will come when it’s ready.”

It would be nice to see the American Muscle and some more of the new/updated tracks. :weird:

Them previews could well be since RACE the WTCC game, like scca1981 here said, released in 2006. I hate to say this, partly because I don’t want it to be true and partly because it’s such a terrible pun, SimBin are becoming losers when it comes to promoting and developing games.

You should be able to spot US muscle in two of the images on the SimBin website front http://www.simbin.com ;)

Thanks Mikkel. I actually saw your post at RSC just after writing that and went straight there to look  .

I’m now optomistic about Race On as the couple of pics of the muscle cars look good  .

This WTCC stuff is getting old.
The only reason to buy this for me, would be to have the Road America and Imola (new layout) tracks in Simbin quality. Also, Formula Master looks interesting as i’m more attracted to open wheel racing.
Hope this addon is not too expensive for that.

Except the Lizard engine HAS been released. Their Xbox title uses it. I always figured they were using that to work out the kinks before bringing it to the PC.

As for the preview… I am a die hard Simbin fan as many of you probably know, but yep, this is dull. Oh look, cars we’ve seen before.

Looking forward to Race On for the tracks they’re bringing. No interest in yet another WTCC year (given I feel the WTCC component is the weakest of the sim). American Muscle… YAY! Cars with crap suspension and poor steering.

I will buy it to support Simbin. Not because I need yet another WTCC season to not race.

Maybe Lizard is much more complicated to implement on the PC given the greater number of game and car adjustments players can make on the PC version compared to a console platform version, and the broader spectrum of graphics support that will be needed… hence the interminable delay…

Hmm I wonder if DLC3-content for XBOX will come to race07.
Those classic cars are very interesting.

OMG, this is not truth isn`t it

And second thing is… What the Hell are you doing SIMBIN… I dont know how to say it but do you think that this is what buyers whant, every time a Addon to Race07 Content

Please SIMBIN dont feel pissed of that buyers say GTR2 is best you`ve ever made, most of us are waiting for a GTR3 that is like GTR2 was…

Sorry for these hard words but i think there is some truth in it… Please Simbin go back to your roots…

Will Simbin dare to do another expansion for RACE 07? I suppose its possible if they do it quickly. I’d certainly buy it even if my initial excitement has waned a bit.

One of the great things about GTL was that it was a real series and every car was individually modelled reflecting their variations. I get the impression these cars are more “generic”. I can fully appreciate why Simbin have had to do this but I can’t help but feel some of that GTL specialness has gone.

I’m sure Simbin would love to do a GTR3. Unfortunately, Porsche, Ferrari and possibly others (Maserati? – they are owned by Ferrari) pulled out of the license arrangement with the FIA GT series license holder, SRO. The FIA GT license used to be a great way of getting the rights to some fantastic cars at a sensible cost, but the manufacturers spotted the loophole I’m afraid. So Simbin could do GTR3 but it wouldn’t have any Porsches or Ferraris in it, and probably no Maserati either.

So its a bit like asking ISI to go back to their F1 roots or Papyrus to go back to their NASCAR roots. If you don’t have the license or if the license has some major gaps in it then you don’t have much option but to look elsewhere.

Maybe the recently anounced World GT Championship might be more viable as I don’t think there are any GT2 cars in it and perhaps Porsche and Ferrari won’t be involved in GT1.

  24. HSR-CJ

Yes DW, its true that the license can be a big problem… Maybe Simbin find a way out of this Problem… I dont want to bash Simbin`s work they have done in last time… they did a almost good Jobin past but i think its time to go into a new direction… The Lizard Engine is the first step i think and its a good step, so maybe they find a solution for License of Cars and Track`s…

So, Simbin should go on and on and should not forget what great work they have done in past (GTL, GTR, GTR2 and GTR Evo)… So maybe Simbin ask us Racers about Ideas
