RACE On – Steam Release Date Confirmed

Posted on October 14th, 2009 in

Back in September, Simbin announced that their newest RACE On simulation title will be hitting the European shops on October 22nd.

Now, the exact same release date has also been confirmed for the Steam version of the title. Given the fact that many previous RACE07/GTR Evolution owners will be looking to use the cheap upgrade option, Steam will be the way to go for many sim racers. No pricing info is yet available but with the release being only nine days away, that should change soon.

Simbin has also released the recommended system requirements which aren’t really surprising since the title uses the same engine that has been used in previous RACE titles. RACE On will include all RACE07 content and brand new stuff including the 2008 WTCC season, the Swedish Touring Car Championship, US muscle cars and the Formula Master series.

Recommended System Requirements

  • Supported OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home/Pro, Windows Vista*
  • Processor: 3 GHz Intel Pentium IV or 100% compatible
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible graphics card with 512 MB memory, Nvidia 6800 or better
  • Sound: DirectX 9 compatible
  • Direct X Version: 9
  • Hard Drive: 2.5 GB free space
  • Input Devices: DirectX 9 compatible force feedback steering wheel
  • *Limited support

I think you meant to say October, not September.

Assuming the add-on version isn’t too expensive, I will buy if nothing but to support Simbin.

Of course I meant October, sorry about the typo.

This is the first Simbin title I will not buy.

My words … its perky! Simbin for 10 new textures to pay…

Its good to see Steam release matching boxed release (at least in Europe). Indeed, in the UK, Steam release is about 3 weeks before boxed release.

You do wonder how big the market is for the full version – can’t be many potential customers who don’t already have GTR Evo or RACE 07.

It is hard to get excited though. If it had come out in Q2 as originally planned it would have been better. Post Shift, even though Shift is a different kind of game, the Race On demo just feels dull.

Do if you want the Nurburgring you still have to load up GTR Evolution? Does this even include Evoluion?

    Without Nordschleife …

Race On includes Race 07, STCC and Race On. If you already have Evo(offline must have latest patch) you can install it as an add-on to it and you will have Race 07, Evo, STCC and Race On all accessible.

Here’s a screen of my car menu. I had only GTR Evo previously installed. After installing race on this is what I got

“Limited support for Vista” lol. That definitely made me smile, considering that there already is Windows7, now.

    Vista is horrible period.

Same, I understand they’re struggling or whatever to have to release things like this, but this isn’t a charity and I expect something back after buying 4 copies of the same game.

I’ll think about the purchase if they outright declare that they ARE NOT touching this engine ever again.

I wanted to write a ‘how can you say it’s the exact same game with a few textures etc.’ rant, but then it hit me. I’ll buy it, because i do *not* own STCC yet. If someone already has RACE07, STCC and GTR-E it could be a bit pointless I guess (not for me, 2008 WTCC season and some other new cars are still interesting enough for me).
What really blows though, is that no Polish distributor plans on bringing RACE On over here, and I don’t have a credit card.

I agree that this one is hardly exciting and it took Simbin a very long time to release considering it doesn’t add much to what’s already in race07/evo/stcc.

Still, if the expansion price in steam is around €10-€15 i’ll buy it without second thoughts. Having an official Laguna Seca is worth it and the formula masters is a fun drive. I’m just a lil pissed that they didnt release Spa in this one. But Simbin, don’t bother with another expansion, the Race Series is a great title with all the content you guys released but it’s time to move on to new projects.

Yes definitely time to move on.

In reality all we are doing is funding more console development. Don’t be surprised if the next pc game is ANOTHER quickly tossed together gmotor game.

Look I enjoy these games but enough it enough. The PC users are what made your company what it is and you screw us over and release the newer game engine on a console and give us the same old recycled stuff.

Oh I completely forgot about Race Pro, to hell with this I think I’m just going to buy Netkar instead.

It’s time to stop with the expansions already.
