Well, they're compeetive enough for me (I usually lap around or over 5 seconds a lap slower than a 100% AI).
But let me give an example: WTCC 2006 season, race at Brands, 25 minutes long.
Weirdness starts in qualifying, with guys like Tarquinin ending up in the second half of the grid. I run the first race, manage to get from 25th to 22nd, BUT. On the second to last lap, 3 or 4 leading cars pit (!) and retire from the race!
The effect is that in the second race I've got guys like Muller brothers behind me. During the race they somehow got stuck in the back, instead of passing me like I was stopped, as it should have happened. Also, behind me there were a few cars bunched up (but they didn't look like they were racing each other), while in front of me the gap grew bigger and bigger (something like 20+ seconds at the finish). I got passed twice after making a mistake and those cars that passed me soon dissapeared from view, somehwere in the front. The result was that a backmarker (me :shame: ) led a procession of something like 10-8 cars all the way to the finish.
Oh, and again 3 cars retired in the pits in the second to last lap.
Something like this really kills your flow.

Sensekhmet: I’ll buy Race On, simply because it’s impossible to buy STCC in my country. As for the dated engine, I have to agree. However, for me the graphics is less of a problem than the AI, which has problems dating way back to first GTR or maybe even earlier. Now this is what takes away from immersion (if you’re an offline player, ofcourse).

Here Here... I would like to see the offline competitiveness of the AI increase. This is why I'm looking forward to Shift.

The AI in Evo/STCC is improved over Race, but not as good as they could be. I hope they work on this, and I look forward to the release.

I will buy this game SimBin... work hard to make it the best it can be!

Back to FIA GT…the GT3 class is awesome.

I agree with you on that, GT3 class looks wonderful. 12 different marques would sure make racing even more pleasurable.

Never a big fan of the 'new' simbin (after the split), but did buy Evo. Nothing here to make a sale to me...spec racing ala Legends (I've got that in iRacing), and not a big fan of American Muscle cars...happen to think that sublime handling and balance is as important as power, and they're not about that.

I'd really like to see *something* rather than a bit series. Back to FIA GT...the GT3 class is awesome.

Race On isn’t really a new game - its a RACE 07 expansion but I agree that Lizard for PC can’t come soon enough.

I guess, without improvements the existing Lizardengine (used in Race Pro) is definitivly outdated when it will see the light of day on PC. Even compared to rFactor2.

I think there is still room for Simbin between the career mode orientated Shift and the on-line only and expensive iRacing. But I think the WTCC license has run its course even if I do still enjoy touring car racing. Maybe something along GTL lines for their next title?

It's all a bit run-of the-mill really, I was looking forward to getting Race On but the trailer hardly sold me at all. It's professionally composed but it's boring, I would expect something better than the mediocre fan video for a new game.

I dunno, maybe it was just made by one of the poor dev team as an extra job, of whom I would sympathize. It all looks a bit hopeless for Simbin in the face of NFS:Shift. The only other direction they can go is in competition of iRacing, but that's asking for an engine overhaul right there.

Thanks. I’m actually quite familiar with Steam. My mistake for asking wrong. My question was more about if the online play is lag free and if the public servers are free of crashers. Is there like a system that players can be banned from servers by their Steam ID, so that they can never join that server again?

For most it is lag free but some experience lag. If you are in Europe you should be OK. With public servers you take your chances. Players cannot be banned by their Steam ID.

“Does someone have any feedback on how it works?”
They do sell a non steam version but if you want full on-line functionality you will need the Steam version. Steam is a program that is used to launch steam games. There is no CD check and no limit to the number of re-installs. It also keeps your games updated with patches. It is a bit clumsy and can be a bit intrusive in its default setup but you can easly stop it starting when your PC starts and “popping up” at the end of your gaming session.
Might be easiest to download the GTR Evo or STCC demos which are steam based to see how you get on.

This looks interesting. Don't have any of the RACE games yet, but this package looks very nice.

I hope they release a bundle with GTR Evolution for a nice price!

Btw, the RACE games work via Steam, right? Does someone have any feedback on how it works? Thanks
