Simbin’s upcoming RACE On simulation is now listed on Amazon, providing us with some new previews and info.
Below are some new low-res preview shots, showing the muscle cars and the game’s box cover. The shots can be viewed in higher resolution using Amazon’s zoom function here.
The game is now listed both on the German and American Amazon. While we´re used to the fact that Simbin games are sold much cheaper in the US, the provided release dates couldn’t be much more different either as the US version is listed to be released in late August while German buyers have to wait until the end of October. Keep in mind though that release dates provided by retailers are rarely correct.
RACE On will include all RACE07 content and brand new stuff including the 2008 WTCC season, the Swedish Touring Car Championship, US muscle cars and the Formula Master series.

AND will also be available as a simple addon for Race’07.
You will not have to buy Race’07 a second time.

30 Dollar = abaout 21 Euro
More than double the price for Germany???

So the price would be:
21,13 (USA) vs. 49,95 EURO (Europe/Germany)
29,99 (USA) vs. 70,87 DOLLAR (Europe/Germany)
…isn’t that weird??
(exchange rate of 1 USD=0.7048 EUR for 09.08.2009)

It has been announced in the latest community update. There wasn’t any article about it here?
SimBin stated:
“Also as always there will be differentiated pricing model depending on what content you already own on Steam. If you already have STCC then you don’t pay full price etc. We believe in expanding content and quality, but not in charging twice for the same content.”

Its unlikely Amazon will sell the upgrade based on past experience. The economics of boxed copies of expansions for low selling titles are such its not worth it. This is the beauty of steam – it makes expansions viable – and so the expansion will be available through Steam.

Ever since RACE07, all Simbin titles have been compatible to each other and previous owners were able to buy the cheaper expansion version. I thought it was obvious that this was the same with RACE On…
Since the expansions are almost never sold in store (at least not here in Germany), Amazon of course only lists the full version.

The German site lists NAMCO BANDAI Partners as the publisher. Seems ATARI have been given the boot – or they weren’t interested anymore. Here’s hoping NAMCO BANDAI Partners don’t have the staggered release which ATARI always had.

NAMCO BANDAI partners is the new name of Atari …
That’s why bitComposer is now the new publisher for SimBin titles.
And bitComposer, it’s people from 10Tacles :)

I like the look of the Muscle cars, they look like they are rolling in the corners, which would be nice and realistic. Looking forward.

Oooo Ahh low res previews. Seriously is this a joke? Do you not want to sell this game?
I can not believe a professional game developer is promoting a game with low res crap.

Ah thanks :)
So we will still get the staggered release. And Steam will be later than most. At least Shift will keep me busy while I’m waiting :)

Hopefully the release will be more intelligently handled than STCC was. That was a farce, with it coming out in one country but not another, and being out for ages before the Steam version appeared.
Simbin are basically idiots when it comes to release dates.

You realise it’s only a matter of time before we see an SUV expansion for the series. They’re already in Forza 3.

You are assuming Simbin are in control of release dates. They basically produce the game, give it to the publisher/distributor and release is down to the publisher/distributor.
Since Atari (or whatever they call themselves now) have always staggered release of Simbin titles back to GTR, then sadly I think we can only expect the same again. And since they don’t want the game available on Steam before they’ve released the boxed version, a key benefit of steam is also lost.
The only time release was done well was with the original RACE but that was distributed by Psygnosis, and the partership with Psygnosis died.
One positive is Viva Media no longer wait for the first patch before distributing so at least our North American cousins don’t have to wait months like they used to.
