Call me a cynic, but $45 for the full game is not that “nice” :weird:

  • felipe

specially when all you get are few extra cars and no nurb!

  • Floptickle

    + tracks ;)

    nurb?

  • UncleChuckle

$25 for a handful of cars and 3 new tracks (if you already have STCC).

    Screw you, Simbin.

  • UncleChuckle

    Floptickle: + tracks ;)nurb?

    Nurburgring.

  • Floptickle

    Aaah, I see ^^

25 Euro for the expansion! What the hell, Simbin!?! As someone who already has R07, Evo and STCC this is downright hilarious. Not only is the new content minimal but we also had to wait ages for this, compared to the Race Pro DLC (especially considering that we don’t even get all that stuff, e.g. Spa!). Months ago I said I’m going to get this, no matter what – guess I was wrong. NO WAY!

I have to agree, especially when Simbin said in their July Community Update

“Also as always there will be differentiated pricing model depending on what content you already own on Steam. If you already have STCC then you don’t pay full price etc. We believe in expanding content and quality, but not in charging twice for the same content.”

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/SimBin/130115126123#/pages/SimBin/130115126123?v=app_2347471856

But those who have STCC are not offered a cheaper option.

I’m hoping this is the usual Steam cockup, but won’t be buying till its sorted out.

  • TheSTIG

True… 25 Euro for the Exp. is just ridiculous for the actual new content you get. I’ll wait for it to drop to 10-15 Euro, if it does, and then may be I will buy it.

Likewise. Anyone who knows me on here knows I am a big Simbin fan, but they can shove this. If I didn’t have STCC then it’s not a bad deal, but I do, so it’s terrible.

They’re taking the piss with that price.

  • kill4f00d

Same here. I own Race07, STCC, and Evo. It’s such a rip off to buy the expansion. Shame on you Simbin. Especially, since there isn’t much new content.

  • Mr. A

€30 for the full package and only €5 less for only the expansion, wtf!

That doesn’t make much sense to me at all. I was expecting maybe €10-15 for just the expansion. :weird:

In comparison, the addon packs for Race Pro costs €6.50-9.50 each and they contain 8-9 (40-52 skins) cars and 2-4 tracks each.

  • Lemming77

I decided against buying this, until I saw the package with STCC included. I haven’t bought that yet, and £22 seems like a good deal for both.

  • Cenotaph

I was already having visions of some fun online racing with the Formula Masters but as soon as I laid eyes upon the price of the expansion on Steam I decided not to buy it. What is Simbin thinking here? I have Race 07, GTR Evolution and STCC – The Game, it doesnt make any sense to spend €25 on the expansion.

  • DevonK

Simbin’s shot themselves in the face with this pricing strategy – not only is the minimal added content not worth it to those with Race07/Evo/STCC but if Simbin is hoping to pick up an entirely new audience for their full package I think they are engaging in wishful thinking; nearly anyone interested in sim racing already has their stuff, there is no big new pool of buyers out there. This seems like a desperate move to squeeze every last drop of profit out of an aging game engine.

  • McBain

Laguna Seca alone was worth the $25, especially with the Monterey Historics on Speed last night.

  • senicegy

I’v been always a simbim supporter,i’v got GTR,GTR2,Race07,Evo,Sttc,but for this addon no way i’m going to buy this, its to little content for my money,in the past i remember they give away free Sttc if u got Evo bought online on steam.
Simbim should sell Race pro on a much reduced price if people have already 07 and evo. :sad2:

  • captain_underpants

Laughing Out Load! I thought they were taking the piss already with yet another expansion. At $10, I might consider it. I’d rather wait a bit longer and get something on an updated engine, though. Simbin is looking seriously dated these days.

  • captain_underpants

    ‘Loud’, dagnabbit.

  • Stream

Formula Masters was fun. Muscle cars wasn’t.
The TDI Seat was ok – a bit unusual to drive with the low revs.

The new tracks were nice though.

  • phil23

I just feel a bit pissed with them about this.

I’ve bought all their titles on retail discs. Got GTR from Germany as it was going to be released here in the uk nearly 2months later. Bought STCC from Sweden as I didn’t want to pay for a download. I was going to get the addon through Steam as I want to take part in club events at RD and buy the disc version later to keep my collection up to date. £17.99 is too much for just the RACE ON content. I have the unofficial Demo to play offline for now until the retail version is out in the UK now. It will only cost £25 and I’ll have the box to put on the shelf with the rest of them.

As for Simbin though I’m not happy. First we had to wait quite a while for Race On whilst getting the shock of Race Pro getting the content when they had not even said it was going to be available for it!! They also gave them more goodies like the historics and other tracks within 24hours of it which us PC owners (their original customers) don’t seem to be getting.

They really seem to be screwing us over now :sad2: .

  • Pinoyone

    Not bad!
A $24.95 value for me is fine for a TDI, a LADA & few muscle cars (though they handle like NASCARS) and a bunch of very REALISTIC tracks as Japan’s Okayama, Road America & Laguna Seca. I also like the ’08 tracks with updated scenery views & surfaces. I’ve only driven in few of them like the Estoril, Imola & Macao. They look very nice. The US tracks looks the same as what I see in the Lemans & Rolex races.

  • Hexcaliber

As I already have everything else simbin has produced, including race pro, and the 360 I bought to run it on. They get no more money from me until they release something using the Lizard engine for PC that they have been touting for the last two years; I only hope it has been improved upon since race pro. Gmotor2 is almost 5 years old now and is past its prime, iracing, netkar pro and even LFS leave its handling engine in their wake.

These “new tracks” and some of the vehicles were already available from the community and the better ones are easily comparable to the content simbin is offering up. I will save the £17.99, and, as I am due for a license update in iracing at the end of the month, will use it to buy the Lotus, money much better spent.

You’re like the kids at my school that would develop an overwhelming interest in tennis during Wimbledon fortnight.

$25 for a track? This is the real world, not bloody Land of the Rubes, iRacing.

Sorry, I don’t play iRacing. However, I do enjoy taking a few laps while pausing real-world races on my DVR. This week had the Monterey Historics and ALMS at Laguna Seca, so I was glad to find Race On released on Steam. I also re-watched ALMS and Patron GT Challenge at Road America, trying to match the times of the pros. The Simbin tracks are miles ahead of the mod versions of both tracks.

It’s sad to see that so many sim-racers are such tightwads, too stingy to throw a few bucks at the folks that make the best sims out there.

  • Niksounds

Hexcaliber: Gmotor2 is almost 5 years old now

uhmm.. and it’s the best actually.
Ok 5 years old, but this isn’t indicative of inaccurate physics :-D

McBain: It’s sad to see that so many sim-racers are such tightwads, too stingy to throw a few bucks at the folks that make the best sims out there.

I agree I am a tightwad and I agree it is sad I’m not buying a title for the sake of £6 ($10) – the price of a bottle of wine.

But it just doesn’t seem right to pay 80% the price of a the full game for an expansion which contains perhaps 20% of the content. My rule of thumb is expansions shouldn’t cost more than half the price of the full game they are based on.

The other issue (I have to admit) is I don’t find the new cars exciting enough and the demo seemed dull to me. If the expansion had been for GTL and contained only 6 new cars I would have bought it even at that price. And I agree with you that the new tracks are good tracks so I will buy the boxed game when the price comes down after Christmas.

It is indicative of a model that in its time was accurate, but there are far more accurate models taking advantage of the increased cpu power in modern systems to model and track far more variables.

While Iracing’s drive train model stinks and the aero too, it still “feels and performs” far more like the formula ford I had driven irl, than anything produced in the current gmotor2 engine. The same is also true of the other two titles I listed. None of them perfect, a lack of real world tracks and race series, but nonetheless a more accurate experience; which, for me at least, is of overriding importance.

I do not knock any of the gmotor2 incarnations, they still have something to offer, but this latest release, is imho, a money grabbing exercise designed to wring a few extra pounds from an aging sim.

  • UncleChuckle

Yes, we’re tightwads for not giving Simbin yet more money for a handful of uninteresting cars and a couple of circuits at a price that’s almost equal to what GTR Evolution cost with ALL the Race 07 content, the Nordschleife, and a ton of GT cars.

If you want to be seen as little more than a wallet with legs, good luck to you!

  • captain_underpants

If expecting value for money is being a tightwad, then so be it. I like their products, but I’m not so foolish that I’ll throw money at anything they produce if I don’t feel I’m getting content that’s worth the asking price, especially considering I have no interest in muscle cars.

Give them all the money you want, but typifying people that don’t wish to as ‘tightwads’ is plain rude.
