R3E – More Previews

Simbin has released a new batch of previews of their RaceRoom Racing Experience title.

The previews show off the same cars as seen in the last batch, including a fictional Le Mans prototypes and first previews of cars that have recently been announced, including the BMW Z4 GT3, the Alpina B3GT, the BMW 635csi touring car and the semi-fictional RUF racing car.

RaceRoom Racing Experience is a free to play racing title that is currently in closed beta-testing, a teaser version with limited content is available to try on Steam.

I don’t think the graphics will be on par with Assetto Corsa or even Project CARS. To me it looks rather like an overhauled GTR Evo.

Love it! I am really looking forward to this, hope the additional content will be reasonable priced, but until now it looks like pretty much perfection. Seems like the only thing that could ruin this game is a lack of players(or simbin screwing everyone over, but doubt that one).

Graphics are great for photo mode, when in motion you dont really notice it that much, the most you’ll notice is the colors and lightening. I’m not that bothered about graphics, but rather around the immersion and gameplay.

The teaser wasn’t bad, but I find myself caring less and less the longer this goes into development. Car list – as it seems right now – is waaaaay to scattered for me. Hopefully it does good so we can actually get a GTR3 with an actual series rather than this random car / missing half a grid BS.

I’ve received a beta key in my mail today :) Can’t wait to give the classic BMW’s a go!

What I like is that the graphics in RR just seem clean , they don’t blow me away with awesome specular effects or lighting , but at the same time they don’t distract me or hurt my eyes and they don’t have any obvious glitches or problems.

But we all know the physics, will be better than anything SMS as done in the past. Test Drive Ferrari Racing Legends worst racing game ever, even Cross Racing Championship 2005 feels better than that, and all the shift games.

I’m not convinced by an unlicensed cars. They shouldn’t have bothered unless they will be available for free.

I like the graphics, very acceptable and creating beautiful atmosphere in some situations. Sadly didn´t receive a beta key to test it. But I will take it when it´s released nevertheless.

    1. The people at SimBin that made GTR, GTR2, GTR Evo, GTL and Race 07 are now developers at SMS.

    2. So far the cars in RRRE do not feel particularly realistic nor do they feel particularly arcadey. The best way I can describe them is “good but not believable”. The FFB is also very generic and non-communicative.

    3. Many of the cars in pCARS are horrible right now. However, the cars that they have decided to really flesh out are getting quite good and I would easily say more believable than anything in RRRE.

    4. RRRE is in Beta and, given they’ve already started micro-transactions, I would say they won’t change much. pCARS is still a year from release and has more potential.

    That RUF looks awesome.

Gotta admit though, in those screens at least, the graphics dont look any different than GTR2, other than the background being completely blurred out like crazy. The lighting looks flat and basic, not even close to RF2′s lighting system, let alone PCars or Assetto Corsa.

  • Kendra Jacobs

True, I like that clean style as well.

Great point, by far the most important thing. These ARE driving sims after all, not just casual kill some time video games.

I think lots of the guys that made GTR Evo, Race 07 and possibly GTR2, are not the same guys who made GTR1 and GTL. I think there was some sort of split around there. Not sure on the details though, I think GTR Evo and Race 07 guys are doing RRRE, not PCars.

Something happened during the GTR1 to GTR Evo years throughout the Simbin, Blimey Studios, SMS debacle.

Ian Bell has stated publicly many times how many people on his current team were involved in those games (just over 40). Ian started SimBin so I tend to trust him on how the whole SimBin split went.
