R3E – First Monza Previews

Simbin is expanding the choice of tracks in their RaceRoom Racing Experience title as a new venue has just been announced – Monza.

The Italian F1 venue will be added to the free to play racer soon, joining tracks like Suzuka, Bathurst, Hockenheim and several fictional circuits.

Below are three previews of the 5.7 kilometer track that will be available in R3E  soon.

Meh. Obvious texture tiling, not much to be excited about compared to the raft of high quality competition.

Wow this 2002 rFactor version of Monza looks fantastic!! Oh wait…

You were playing rFactor in 2002?

I think it was implied that a lot of rFactor tracks used today are still converted from even older games. Fwiw I think this is lacking a bit visually too.

    Looks perfectly fine to me.

I imagine I won’t have much time to notice the lack of ambient occulsion or any of the other “technical stuff” people may bring up while racing, being as this is one of the fastest tracks in the world.

I think texture tiling is the biggest offense. It’s the easiest thing to notice at speed because it results in what appear to be lines that shouldn’t exist. VIR in iRacing is a big violator, it’s an old track, with a super long straight where you just see this epic tiled grass texture that instantly reminds you it’s a virtual track and not a good one at that.

To me that just looks like the lines left from a sit-on lawnmower and an enthusiastic groundskeeper? Enough so, that it wouldn’t bother me.

Not just the lines, it’s the same pattern repeating every 5 feet or so along those lines. It’s bad enough that iRacing called the track “embarassing” and I can’t say I disagree. It’s definitely not representative of how the new tracks look.
