Prototype C – Exclusive Previews

Thanks to the Virtua_LM Junior Team, VirtualR is proud to be able to present you sixteen exclusive, never before seen preview shots of the Prototype C mod for rFactor.

But before, I´d once again like to remind everyone that the team is still very much looking to fill some open staff positions. Since a mod with that many cars and historical details requires a lot of man power, finding the required help is crucial for the mod’s future.

If you have a passion or GT/sports prototype racing and meet one of the following requirements, make sure to contact Virtua_LM and make yourself known:

Physics Expert – Somebody experienced in dealing with and programming rFactor physics files. Preferably from a well known modding team with popular work in their back-catalogue.

3D Modeller – Somebody experienced in modelling with 3DS Max. Must also be able to model cockpits well.

Sound engineer – Must be able to create sounds accurately and have a back-catalogue we can refer to.

Now, it’s time to get to the good stuff as you can find sixteen all-new previews below. From this day on, the name Prototype C does not do the mod full justice anymore as the team has been adding Group B cars such as the BMW M1, the Porsche 930 and the Porsche 928 to the mix.

The shots also show a lot of unseen new prototypes such as the Porsche 936C, the Rondeau M379, the Mazda 717C, the Sthemo SM01 and the de Cadenet Lola. All these cars competed in the 1983 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours and are new editions to the rFactor version of the popular F1 Challenge mod.

Combining cars from three different classes, Prototype C for rFactor will let us relive one of the most exciting years in the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours, bringing true multi-class sports car racing to the simulation. If that isn’t worth the wait, I don’t know what is….

Hint: To see the high-resolution previews in full glory, make sure to click on “Full Size” once the image pops up.

*recovers* These screens are absolutely AMAZING. I thought taking on the C Junior cars as well as the Group C cars was a big ask, but VLM have gone and done the entire field including the Group B machines… and they all look fantastic!

Here is the full field of the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans, which shows off the mammoth task these guys have taken on: http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/Le_Mans-1983-06-19.html

    I’m surprised

Especially by the fact they’re still looking for modders. The making of this mod has started some years back ago already and this news now looks like some rather desperate request for additional help.

The project outline had been THAT enormous right from start that IMO there was little chance to release ANYTHING in time for rF. Kudos for adding even more stuff to the plate nonetheless, though. Would be interesting to know if the mod is now targeted for rF2 or rather rF3 … :sd:

LOL! Some guys talk like it should be real

THis one is one of the most ancient forever WIP of rFactor scene. And now almost 3 years later they say that they need crew members…

  • roadkill ken

Am I the only one who doesn’t care about all the C2 and group B cars.Just give us the C1 cars , this is turning into a 1983 Le Mans mod.Thank god I’ve still got prototype c for f1c.

Is this mod going to be for rFactor2? The reason I ask this is because with all the new cars to be made on top of whats already been completed(which I would hope would be more then enough for some sort of “Demo”)and the fact that the “Junior” Team is the sole team working on this, and the fact that it’s been a WIP for almost 3 years already, that’s the basis for my first question. Just seems like this mod could be a never ending “WIP” or atleast 3 to 4 more years away…..granted if no more cars were to be added to this point. I had this for Formula One Challenge, and it was beyond words. But, I also noticed for the F1C version, there were service pack updates released every so often, due to the infact large number of cars being created……my question is, why was the service pack idea dropped? If that was still being used, we could of had this mod last year, or earlier. Nonetheless, thanks for the new screenshots, but at this point in time, it’s kinda like a mild form of torture.

Just checked VLM forum… most recent post was 2 month ago and it was the admins answer to the question if VLM projects are all supposed to be abandoned. Answer was “all just rumors” – which isn’t what I call a denial. To me it looks like they have joined the stuff and resources from Group5 mod project to that of PTC project and bundeled it to a Lemans 1983 project – and still don’t have sufficient resources to finish that one.

So unless there’ll now be a notable number of additional people joining VLM to finish that mod, we could most likely all relax and abandon hope to see anything released by VLM within the next 2-3 years

If the “Junior Team” is working on the Prototype-C mod, what is the full team working on? Just curious.

    Thanks!

  • GTFAN45

Do you guys have a rough estimate on the number of cars for this mod? Do you plan on releasing them all with the mod or will there be service packs?

  • GTFAN45

Is there a status report on this? :sd:

  • GTFAN45

I must apologize for my last post, I wasn’t aware of the fact that VLM doesn’t give out any info on progress, how far along they are, what part they are working on at the moment, or how many cars are done and the total amount of them that will be in the mod. I was informed of this recently, and I wasn’t privy to that before. Sorry, it won’t happen again. I just have a comment…..why is there a WIP section for them at RFC, and why do they themselves have a forum for this mod on their site if they never intend to divulge any sort of info on the mod? Isn’t that what a discussion forum on the mod would be for? Sorry if that sounded mean, but it is a very honest question. Thanks, this mod looks AWESOME, but I guess I will have to wait in silence like everyone else.
