Project CARS vs. GT5 – Comparison Video

ADRIANF1esp has put together a very interesting comparison video, putting Project CARS and Gran Turismo 5 side by side.

Despite still being in pre-alpha state, Project CARS has often been praised for setting a new benchmark for graphics in racing titles, even eclipsing Polyphony Digital’s Playstation 3 racer that has become synonymous with graphical quality.

You can check out for yourself in the video below, showing a lap around Spa Francorchamps in the Ford GT MKiv in both titles.

I like CARS version. Very good. Hate the God awful sounds of GT5. Hate playing it for that reason more than any other…..

Graphically GT5 to me looks better, the lightning and color looks better then CARS.
Got to give hats off to Polyphony for extracting everything from PS3, would be insane if Polyphony did game for PC.

      > would be insane if Polyphony did game for PC.

5 years late and with most of the features dropped. “We didn’t have time to add an engine to all the cars”

LOL, PC graphics compared to console. Almost every title out there looks better on the PC version provided there is a decent graphics card installed. I would like to see the version of this that shows us the PS3 port.

Nice video, pCARS *should* look better than GT5 which came out 2 years ago, on a console that came out 6 years ago, if it didn’t we’d be pretty unhappy.

GT5 sounds like crap but the FFB and physics with a wheel has held up pretty well in comparison with the current pCARS physics and FFB in my opinion (based on build 375), I have high hopes for pCARS improving the physics and FFB though once they finish with the eyecandy, don’t let us down Slightly Mad Team, also it would be great if pCARS Nordschleife was as accurate as GT5′s.

Hopefully pCARS will be a good sim and competition for GT6 and FM5.

Oh please. I realise you’re not the sharpest knife in the drawer but this statement is ridiculous.

Project cars has better graphics than the ZX Spectrum too. Who’d have guessed eh?

only difference I see is what the 3d track artists did. in project cars, more focus is on the track textures and details. on GT5 the track background (like trees, mountains, and hillsides) are better placed and scaled.

    GT% Much BETER!!!

    Track is more realistic

Project cars has far too much motion blur in comparison, completely overdone. GT5 still looks really great IMO When comparing a console game to a game on PC that is no doubt maxed with it’s full textures etc, GT5 looks as good and for me personally i think it looks better. It’s very iRacing like in terms of look but with better lighting/reflections/shaders. Lets see how pCARS compares when it’s running on a PS3 though, this comparison is not really fair. If SHIFT2 is anything to go by it will look and run nothing like this video shows in comparison to Forza and GT5. It will not have the AA and ultra high shadows, textures etc.

What makes these titles so impressive on the consoles is they both look like they do whilst maintaining 60fps. SHIFT2 struggled to maintain 30fps on the consoles let alone 60fps. The console market is going to be their biggest market aswell,

pCARS does look good, for me it’s has an overly processed look in all honesty but it still looks good. But i find GT5 the more impressive here considering the hardware in question.

Put GT5 on PC, it would be even more impressive than this video shows

gt5 has still the most natural lightning. but its also rather low res and jaggy…

but hey, not bad for a 300 bucks console.

  • robert

just take a look for hardware spec, nothing special for PC with much more power, GT5 still looks very nice…

    Aha new comparison vid…..:-(

GT5 is now 2 yrs old? Amazing.

It’s older than that, that’s just how long most of us have been playing it.

Maybe I should consider a PS4 for my next gaming rig. lol

Its actually a useless comparison, PC versus Console? Hardware difference tells a different tale. They should have waited for pCARS to come out on the PS3 and compare it GT5, and wait for it to be released in XBOX 360 and compare it to Forza 4.

PC has no limitations, only the capabilities of a game developer is limited unless a new technology arisen. No wonder pCARS look tremendously beautiful because of the HD textures and aesthetic photo-like realtime effects. But I don’t think they’ll be able to implement the same ultra quality on a pretty old “Nex-gen” consoles compared to an ever evolving PC rig.

Downside for pCARS is the presence of too much motion blur (I don’t like exaggerated motion blurs for a game) – but that’s just “that” and nothing else. Everything else about pCARS is really promising.

I rather upgrade, and upgrade, and… upgrade my computer and buy pCARS than get a console and buy pCARS and see less details.

The motion blur in pCARS can be switched to different levels, including completely off.

GT5 still looks amazing, but the driving appears too smooth.

GT5 has awful screen tear which I couldnt get rid of or look past, so I never got a chance to get into it as much as I wouldve liked

  • http://twitter.com/StarFoXySxv550 StarFoXySxv550

I agree with most other comments here.

Does anyone have a 6 year old PC, CPU & graphics card to see how PCARS would run on that? Would be quicker than waiting for the PS3/360 ports to arrive. I’m guessing it wouldn’t even boot up :P

  • mugen h

both games look great but if you focus on the car bodies, gt5 is like your riding a magic carpet no car movement looks really weird

GT5 is still amazing! The street for example looks better, reflections on the cars look impressive and the most impressive: It runs on a 6 year old console with 60fps and is now more than 2 years old… But still unbeaten in the overall package imo. Sure it has its faults, but there is currently no game that can be compared to gt5 :) And I have so many sims on my PC like Rfactor, GTR series, LFS…

So all my hope goes to Assetto Corsa and Project Cars.. PCars will be a great game, hopefully they are going to add a drift mode … :)
