Project CARS – Ultra High Detail Model Previews

Slightly Mad Studios have released new previews of their WMD-powered Project CARS title, showing off the new ultra high detail models.

The ultra high detail model gives players the option to use cars with an extremely high detail level that goes down to the smallest nuts and bolts.

Below are several previews of the historic Lotus F1 car in ultra high detail mode, showing a level of detail that sets a new benchmark in terms of simulation graphics.

The previews also show of the new historic driver model & helmet, both will be available in this Friday’s Junior build of Project CARS.

Before anyone asks, these are in-gameplay shots, not pre-rendered or processed :)

  • My Special Friend

That is bloody outrageous.  The driver dude is creepy real too.  I love it.  LOL

  • noro ardanto

Now.. what is the minimum pc spec to run at this level of details with let’s say 20 cars? so I can start saving money to upgrade!

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

The last shot look so real I had to look twice to make sure it wasn’t a photograph… I have no words to describe my awe in front of those shots, I didn’t even know that kind of detail was possible, TBH…

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Boah, a simple dual i7-2700K overclocked @ 5.5 GHz, with 4 watercooled GTX580 in SLI should suffice :P

  • Anonymous

Markus is gonna cream his pants.

  • noro ardanto

haha ok I’ll start with those…

  • Anonymous

really? the DoF in the last shot is in-game?…

  • Anonymous

I was thinking this too – I was thinking I would need to buy a massive supercomputer from NASA XD

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jermaine-Smit/100001125859847 Jermaine Smit

Looks amazing… The question is if it is edited with photoshop to make it look just bit extra good.

  • http://www.facebook.com/RedApex Ryan M J Callan

Be lovely if it drove like it looks.

  • Richard Hessels

If a developer wants to show off the amazing detail, than maybe provide some bigger screenshots.

Looking good became looking great, but we all already knew that visually there is nothing that comes close.

  • Anonymous

DOF has been in games for years, don’t get the confusion?
Maybe some blur was added though, I’m not sure. But the game has DOF in replays/track side cameras.

  • Sean Čebron

It actually drives quite well, it’s developing nicely.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Pineapples/100001965191185 Joe Pineapples

Great marketing shots, but I doubt many people will want to spend the necessary cash to run it like that with 20 cars on track and have a stable 60fps+. I cant even get that performance with the latest build, with 1 car on track (i7 920 @4.2, GTX 570), 1920×1200, ‘high’ detail. This game needs some massive optimisation by the time its finished.

Graphics CARS, lame FFB again.. physics rFactor and FFB that works, oh well bought both support SIMS !

  • Dylan Heremans

What? The FFB in build 141 is quite good.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jcruze88 Justin ForzaBarça Cruze

Just remember computer hardware does not stand still. It doesnt take much time for current top-end gpus/cpus to become mid-range and relatively affordable.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

I struggled to make sense of this post, just me? o_O

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

Bear in mind this is not necessarily aimed at the PC’s of today. The game won’t be out for over a  year, no doubt the brand new HD7950 will no longer be king, and Ivybridge available…if the best PC’s can run it like that today, I’m sure many more will be able to by release.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

Wait for the community galleries that pop up every week on the WMD homepage. Not all, but a lot of the shot there are in 1920*1080, I know mine are.

  • badracer

what a nonsense you are talking here

  • badracer

I think “no”. Most shots are from two or three guys from the developer team and they barely use Photoshop.

  • badracer

i5, 4GB RAM and 1 to 1,5GB graphics card should be necessary.

  • badracer

The devs are able to edit the ingame DOF by their own so I doubt, they used any software for post effects.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

Nope. The game just looks that good :D

  • rui silva

pCars needed ultra high models like it needed a shot in the foot! This is all and good but, imho, its more of a gimik, cant figure out why cause pcars´s models are already high quality …

  • http://www.facebook.com/gulyopapa Gulyás Tamás

pCARS needs better physics modell not ultra hyper super graphics …

Better physics, a new tire model and more accurate tracks.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Well, they’re pushing the technology as far as they can, it’s a good thing ™ !

Anyways, graphics team is unrelated to the physics team, so putting more work in one area doesn’t stop the other from flourishing.

Like you said, it’s all goooood.

  • badracer

Tracks are accurate like they are. The devs got a lot feedback from Ben Collins and members racing and living at the track.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

And you need to realise it’s a work in progress. If you’re a member(Which I assume you must be seeing as you’re complaining about physics) you’d realise that there are currently ffb and low speed physics are having huge overhauls.

  • Mitos
  • Eric Zehnder

Actually the FFB and low speed physics are amazing after patch 141. Night and day….speaking of which we have lighting transition coming in a week or two, I believe!

  • Eric Zehnder

Considering it’s approximately 8-9 months behind rFactor in terms of
development life cycle, it’s extremely close to rFactor in terms of
feel. Bodes well for beta and release.

I saw in a pdf someting about

What is this i found on a pdf  1 pay for the game when it is realesed then we also must pay extra to get cars tracks ? up on that is it some monthly pay to race this game online and is the game come with dedcated servers or not as Iracing does it i just wonder always great to now before a buy

    http://wmdportal.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/WMD_Overview_1011.pdf

  • Eric Zehnder

By the time the game comes out, a gaming PC worth about $500 total would suffice. Given you’d be able to keep most of what you have, a $150 graphics card and perhaps an extra 2GB would probably be all you need.

A $400 graphics card today is a $100 graphics card in a year. I usually get a graphics card every 3 years and I’m able to run everything near maxed around 30FPS no matter what the genre of game.

  • badracer

Nothing is decided, yet. It could be a full-retail game, too. And if it gets micro transactions, the prices are more fictional, yet.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jcruze88 Justin ForzaBarça Cruze

If its free-to-play there certainly wont be any monthly subscription fees.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/LYFMGMHSXMPPAEDM4FPYSF6MC4 Raphael

No not at all. I don’t even own photoshop and all of my screens look like that.

  • Anonymous

Well said Ross, some people just can not fathom what Pre-Alpha means. Let them be, move along

  • Anonymous

That’s my shot mate and it was before this latest ” Ultra ” setting, so expect it to look even better

  • pez2k .

Not only is it not a product of Photoshop, it’s not even a specially rendered ‘photo mode’ like GT5 or Forza 4. That’s genuine ingame graphics, it really looks that good even in motion.

  • Michael Gribble

What is “relatively affordable” to you is probably not to me.  I had a hard time justifying spending $140 on my GTX 550 ti.  There is no way I will ever spend more than $150 on any single component for my PC.  Especially if the only perk is to see individual bolt heads on my virtual car.

As the saying goes though, to each his own.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=557052351 Damon Clewlow

It does look ridiculously gorgeous and highly detailed.

As for the physics? Well, trolls are going to troll, haters will always hate, and fanboys will always be fanboys. I’m not going to delve into the arguments about rF2 this and pCARS that – just know that with the kind of input Ben Collins is giving, along with feedback from hundreds of members in the sim racing community, pCARS may just turn heads for all the right reasons come release.

Give it time – and that goes for rFactor2 and Assetto Corsa as well – as sim racer’s we’ve probably not had it this good for a very long time if at all.

  • Jorge Azcoitia

Am I the only one that sees the left rear tire in the air in the dusk pic?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shane-Srenaski/1193384787 Shane Srenaski

Good post! My PC from about 1.5 years ago runs the game at pretty good FPS with all graphics at their highest at 2560×1600. I ca’t imagie how well it would run a year from now, or eve ow if I used my 1920×1080 panel.

  • Anonymous

Indeed.  Members of the CARS project are able to go onto the WMD forums, provide feedback and can affect the outcome of the game.  It’s going to be no use whining about the final product having not taken the opportunity to provide some input while it’s there.

  • Mitos
  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Pineapples/100001965191185 Joe Pineapples

See how Ross made his (good) point without trolling,  And yes, I know what alpha means.

  • http://twitter.com/Michael_42 Michael

The tyre’s not in the air, there’s just a gap between the shadow and tyre, giving the illusion the tyre is in the air.

    Like this http://themetapicture.com/levitation-illusion/

  • http://twitter.com/Michael_42 Michael

Well to be completely accurate, members of the CARS project who whine before the game is finished get their money refunded and booted out the project.

Those who whine afterwards might wonder when this “opportunity” was available – unless their name is Ben.
