Project CARS – New Weather & Timelapse Trailer

Adrianf1esp has put together a stunning new Project CARS video trailer.

The trailer shows off one of Project CARS’ unique features, the completely dynamic time of day & weather engine that allows racing in all possible conditions you can think of.

You can check out the effects in a time-lapse below, the system is still work in progress as more features are being added all the time.

Project CARS is coming to the PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii U in late 2013. More info can be found on the WMD website.

    Time to upgrade the GPU:

Shift 2 was already a Crysis (whithout the beauty).

This one is trying to compete with Crysis 3.

wuts the use of weather if ure tires arent affected by it?

How are they supposed to make different tire compounds if there was no weather? :P

its a car sim….do the car first

    Very nice vid. :)

most important thing in semi-sim title… dynamic weather (visual way). cmon guys, make some changes on this crappy physics.

Cmon guys, at least read the official forum to know what they’re doing.

What´s the sense of your comment here? If that´s the only thing you have to say, why the hell are you clicking on this article clearly showing what it´s about?

Most stuff you see on magazines are fan-made pictures and videos. It´s not SMS posting graphics vids every three days to annoy smart alecks like you.

I am a bit skeptical myself but even I can say that since the SETA model, the handling is definitely heading in the right direction. I look forward to the final package, can’t help but be impressed by the immersive nature of the weather and dynamic time of day – coupled with good physics and multiplayer and it will be a genuine choice for simmers.

Maybe this is the best cloud/lighting system i have ever seen on any kind of videogame.
Hope the physics & the sound match the graphics.

I have to admit that graphically pCARS looks even better than AC (atm), rF2 and any other sim.
But I still have feeling that SMS milks the community that is helping them.

And in the end they will need so much more than cool GFX to beat AC…

LOL Ever heard of “too many cooks spoil the broth”. The guy making the tire model is Andrew Webber. And yes, he does it alone. And? This guy is really fast and does a good job “alone”. What do you expect to be better if a second or third person is coding the tire stuff? And you are wrong that the other vehicle-guys just type in parameters. They are using his tire model and create tire models with it. But they also handle the mechanics, suspension system and aerodynamics and every other stuff that is important for the cars. These are not stooges who are waiting for work

rF2 is nearly as hungry as pCARS just because of the expensive physics calculation. Imagine rF2 would have a similar graphics engine and it probably wouldn´t even run on any desktop PC. The new tire model is, compared to the tire model before, pretty good-natured compared to what advantages it has.

Don´t expect any modern sim to run on your outdated PC from five years ago. If developer would care about it, we probably still wouldn´t have come beyond rF1.

Yeah, “too many cooks spoil the broth”, keep telling that to yourself. Also do the same for the game’s audio, which is, again, handled mostly by one person. And again, regardless of that person’s experience, there’s only so much one man can do. This is even evidenced in SMS own posts, TONS of audio stuff are still on the todo list, but the progress is slow to say the least. Will 9 months of additional development be enough? I doubt it. We’re one year of serious development in and the audio improved just marginally. I’m almost sure that pCARS will release with the audio quality of Shift 2, which was laughable (compare the synthetic cookie cutter sound of any Shift 2 car with the real thing and you will laugh with me). pCARS continues to produce this weird generic mix of noises and whines, lack of reverb etc. and when someone posts a video saying “Hey, guys, I don’t think car X should sound like it does, here’s the video” he’s quickly told to shut up by mods or SMS, and the point of the discussion quickly shifts to audio equipment blabbering, because of course the recording device used when shooting the video was incapable of capturing the true real sound (that is of course present in pCARS) of the car correctly (I burst to tears from laughter every time I read something like that.). BTW: The new Test Drive is another testament to the SMS’s inability to make a realistic driving simulator, because that is just Shift 1.5 with Ferrari models and physics perfectly matching that Shift heritage.

LOL Test Drive Ferrari should be a simulator? Man, what did you smoke. The Test Drive-series is an action racer, will always be and don´t want to be sth. else.

        but AC has physics :P

      • Big Ron

GT5 and Forza 4 have physics, too.
