Slightly Mad Studios work a lot: big updates every week! It’s becoming better and better each day.

What do ISI company do? They take holidays? or already cry…

  • Cato Larsen

Well. I am DL this right now. Yes they do updates, they do a lot of work I am sure. It looks great, but I cannot escape that it still feels like crap(maybe a strong word)in the controller department.

rF2 has a different way of doing GFX. it is not as shiny, not as flashy, but doing SPA in the early morning with a bit of rainy haze in the distance is absolutely amazing.

There is enough rF2 against CARS agains iRacing comments so I will leave it at that and HOPE that SMS gets the FFB and tire model correct. We do really dont have enough GOOD simracing titles with  2010/11+ technology. So keep up the work guys.

  • http://twitter.com/skombijohn Chris Stone

Well, ISI brought out a BETA. pCars is PRE-Alpha…
They simply went a different way. Bring out a build once a week and show them to the members. Does not say anything about the quality of the game itself.
And honestly, pCars might look better from build to build, but the important thing, driving physics, got worse. Its more like SHIFT now.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Schmidt/100001406158677 Justin Schmidt

i dont remember reading that isi promised weekly builds. slightly mad did and thats the reason for different membership levels. they have to bring the new builds. no other choice.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XKIUE2LAAKBELBIEVB74IUG5HY Stefan

This is MUCH better than Build 124!

  • http://twitter.com/marek100 Marek Szymanski

Intresting what you saying but did you try p. C.A.R.S ? sounds like you not !!!

  • Cato Larsen

***And honestly, pCars might look better from build to build, but the
important thing, driving physics, got worse. Its more like SHIFT now.***

Quite right Chris. It is going the wrong direction I feel. Maybe thats why it is not out of pre-alpha yet.

Why do you need to badmouth ISI everytime you open it ? How does that help to prove your point ? If you ever had one, that is…

  • Anonymous

Still dont really like it. Pedal delay is crazy and FFB stil feels disconnected.

But awell is still Alpha but i have the feeling some issues are just hardcoded in the engine. And they cant get rid of it.

  • http://twitter.com/StarFoXySxv550 StarFoXySxv550

Did 5 people ‘really’ like this comment, or did they hit the wrong button? It’s happened to me a few times. You’ll probably find ISI did plenty of updates…. when the game was in alpha state, like pcars is now. The proof is in the fact that more than half the things you see in these updates rF2 already has.

Indeed this comment is yawn material. It’s great that you love SMS, but is there any real need to *try* and degrade other companies?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1271286206 André Carrano

rfactor2 was an attempt to not lose all the market, but im afraid that pCars is more arcade like. lets wait for physics update, multiplayer, kers drs etc

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Ariel Atoms still are over sensitive when steering… Never mind, the TDX is still great to drive and very manageable as a DTM should be.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

You won’t see pCARS going in a wrong direction like other sims, you can wait for that until this game is released. Ben Collins already sees pCARS on a very good way about the handling of the cars. Lag and FFB are another story, in a alpha release there can be many problems with certain hardware configs. But the overall driving model develops exactly where SMS wants it to go, to become more real and driveable. But of course physics and handling are not anywhere finished. You just won’t ever experience pCARS driving like iRacing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Of course it’s still alpha, and the issues are not hardcoded anywhere. That’s how development works. Code, debug, test, debug, code some more and start all over again. If you feel that way about an alpha, I’m pretty sure you won’t like it until the release date, coz that’s when they tighten everything up so it’s ready to play. Don’t forget it has never been the intention to be enjoyable during development, we are participating in the process. SMS is still trying new things every day, don’t expect things to be perfect and then not to change anymore. And this will last for at least a year or a year and a half.

  • mike mansor

This is what I think ISI is doing right now: working with teams like Red Bull (and others) that happens to be using rF Pro in their advance and realistic simulator upgrading that piece software with the hope that what’e learned from that will trickle down to rF2.

  • mike mansor

Maybe there should be a button pressed for “I don’t give a ****”.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

You make no sense, like the others. Why talk about your own delirium of rF2 market strategy to conclude that pCARS is more arcade ? Did you even think before writing that stuff down ???

  • Anonymous

I didnt say anywhere i expected it to be. Just saying i have the feeling the problems with the delay lays deeper then they probably thought at first. Like i said i think the problems lays at the core of the engine. Wich they offcourse didnt 100% rebuilt from scratch since the Shift series.

  • http://twitter.com/_LeazesNDR_ * …Dave H…*

“other sims going in the wrong direction”
As usual, MOtt is not content with just stating pCARS ‘s good points, he’s in there bad mouthing other racing sims again. LOL!

  • Anonymous

Please stop posting nonsense. Whether or not you like pCARS, but stating that the physics get worse is factually wrong.

  • Rolands Svetins

First screen blows me off the screen.

  • Anonymous

most of you act like 13 years olds on here, blah blah blah rf2 is better, ISI is crying, ISI working with redbull, iracing is better, iracing sucks…….this game is like shift 2…..

how about cars is in alpha stage, its not even close to beta or full release, by the time it gets to that stage it could be completely different game.

so stop writing nonsense until full game is released…

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

An up and down function like youtube would be nice indeed to counter the trolls, but in the meantime, you can Flag the posts you don’t care to read so at least our moderator knows who’s boring the rest and maybe take action.

  • Anonymous

    Looks beautiful.  But rubbish.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

You “think” the problem lays at the core… How do you know that ? Have you read the code ? Did you follow the development on WMD forums ? How do you know how much code was taken over from Shift ? You should be starting to understand where I’m going with these questions, don’t you ? Yes, my point is you’re talking out of your ****…

  • http://twitter.com/_LeazesNDR_ * …Dave H…*

    Agree totally.

By the way, Middlesbrough or Millwall???

  • Anonymous

You get paid for writing this stuff?

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I’m starting to think the problem might be most trolls ARE 13 years old… Anyways, they all seem to like pissing contests as soon as any unreleased software is talked about on VirtualR… (CARS, AC, rF2, GTR3)
Until action is decided in a higher place, don’t expect the trolls not to be trolls…

The worst of it all is that there are only 5 or 6 of them, ruining it for everybody else. I don’t understand how Montoya could be afraid to loose a few readers for the benefit of the whole.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Forget it, he just knows the future where you don’t. You can’t fight with him, he’s too powerful ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Thanks for your constructive criticism. It helps A LOT.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Do you get off by bringing such childish arguments to the table ?

It’s the troll wars all over again. This is boring. Grow up, please.

You’re addressing me only because I react to the trolling reactions. What does that make you ? Yup, a troll too.

  • Anonymous

Game’s looking very nice. Truly next gen.

However, I think assetto corsa is ahead on the visuals department.

But i’ll get both, for sure.

  • Cato Larsen

I am sorry that you feel what I posted was nonsense. It makes perfect sense to me. I have used every build since B76 and I do not like the feel more now than I did then. It has changed, thats for sure. from very grippy to slidy to grippy when slidy and so on. Just because someone does not share your view does not mean its wrong or nonsense. Nor does it mean I am right…. But it still is what it is to me.

  • Anonymous

Agree, i don’t mind criticisms, if taken on a constructive manner. If the guy doesn’t like physcis, graphics, whatever from a game, just said that or if possible, back-up with arguments and such. No problems wih that.

But blatantly calling a game “crap”, “it sucks”, “whatever game pisses on it” its just immature arguments and harm the well being here. This is a great place to check and debate news regarding sim-racing, so I think would be better if the trolling behavior could get erased as much as possible. And most of the time, the trolls are recurring.

  • Anonymous

Why has criticism got to be “constructive”?    What am I?  Some PR knob?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alex-White/655487760 Alex White

….But its really pretty good. Unless you are one of those people who says its rubbish ‘BECAUSE I SAY SO’

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alex-White/655487760 Alex White

Project CARS is a sim though, and a very good one at that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alex-White/655487760 Alex White

..Which is why they have rebuilt the input code? .. So that input lag would go away, and it has. (Unless you have a garbage PC)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=645597761 Sam Binfield

On top of that they (the Atoms) need some aero and gearing work. The speeds I’ve seen reached in onboards on the straights are 10-20mph too high in some cases. Highest I’ve ever seen while tracking an Atom is 140 mph in the draft of a Le Mans Jaguar GT car on the Kemmel straight at Spa. Normally it tops out at 120-130 mph depending on the wind. In addition, top gear is unusable on the track as its ratio is set for motorway usage with a Honda Civic, you just slow down when using it :) . There’s a long way to go yet though, so I’m sure SMS will make the required changes.

  • Anonymous

Iracing’s physic’s are pretty good to be fair on another level to say Gmotor based sims in my experience… In regards to physic’s each sim has it’s strengths and weaknesses and none of them are exactly like driving a car and probably will be many years before they do! Just look at Cart precission racing from like 98 or something, it was marketed as realistic sim so accurate teams used it as a training tool with ‘photo-realistic graphics’…hmmm….in ten years time you’ll look back and think the same about the current crop of sims no doubt…

so far i’m impressed with cars, i’m holding out and supporting them all the way, interestingly Ben Collins thought similar things to us about pcars’ physics so hopefully his help will be great, i’ve felt big improvements lately. Sims have had big name inputs with physics before and still turned out unrealistic so don’t assume he’s helping therefore it will be the best…

I’m having no noticable lag with pCars now so thats doing well too! The more sims the better as far as i’m concerned…

  • Anonymous

Believe me my pc is fine. Run steady 150 fps with max settings. ;)

  • Anonymous

Nice civil comment. Thought we could start a normal discussion about the game.
    Guess i was wrong. Shame..

  • Anonymous

Again, you’re free to not like it but saying “It’s getting worse” and “it’ more like Shift” is simply wrong.

The physics improve almost daily based on real-life values and feedback so it’s definitely getting better and more realistic, whether you like the feeling or not is another question.

And saying that it’s more like Shift is simply absurd, even though the improvements are still very much in full swing and it’s pre-alpha, pCARS is more of a simulation than Shift ever was. It’ s superior in every aspect… input model & lag, FFB… and it’s only the beginning.

What bugs me isn’t your opinion but the way you put it discourages others from trying it because of your, let’s say highly subjective, views.

  • http://profiles.google.com/conticreative Marco Conti

I like the driving feeling much better now that when it first came out. There is still something off, but I can tell they are working on it as it gets better with each release.

The real reason I don’t drive pCARS that much aside from a 1/2 an hour test drive each release is the lack of multiplayer and the somewhat still primitive AI. I hope they are going to work on Multiplayer soon. I can only imagine what the trolls will come up then but I am wiling to suffer a bit to have another online outlet to race.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6D2OBFNYYU7KMO5XWNTWYBB5DY Tony

Cars is pre alpha stage, so you aren’t allowed any opinion, Thank you. And yes we could all pray it will be a completely different game lol.

“What bugs me isn’t your opinion but the way you put it discourages others from trying it because of your, let’s say highly subjective, views.”
Isnt that the same as some people encourage other people with highly optimistic views?
Its a two way lane. You cant block only one of them. :)

  • http://twitter.com/PeterPrks Peter

I hope this build will have better handling, then older, because, it still feels like shift and not sim.

  • Anonymous

No it’s because he’s just another rude troll.

  • http://zerez86.blogspot.com/ zerez86

But how do you know that the problem doesn’t lay at the core? Do you have some inside information the others don’t have? HybridTheory85 only expressed his oppinion.

  • http://www.facebook.com/scott.mcilwhan Scott McIlwhan

Before I start – this post will contain some gentle criticism based on my subjective opinion. I know that some of you don’t like that sort of thing so feel free to gloss over this post.

It looks (visually) stunning, I haven’t been able to download the lastest build yet but purely from watching the attached vid closely the way it grips and turns still looks odd. It looks like quite a bit of understeer at turn in which is fine (if undesirable from a setup) but towards the mid corner it gets a rather odd rotation. It doesn’t look like the fronts suddenly grip up its more like the thing is on a turn-table. This effect seems to get less on the second lap/half of the vid so maybe it is related to tyre temps or pressures or something else that is dynamic.

I found the same weird feeling was present in the last build that I tested especially with the DTM car but at that time I was getting such input lag that I just couldn’t make a good assessment of it. I’ll get this current build cracking over the weekend and hopefully post a full retraction and correction later ;)

And before anyone whines about “you got all that from watching the video” well yeah, I’ve spent much more time watching open wheelers than driving them in real life so its as valid as driving the thing and commenting on its realism

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=557052351 Damon Clewlow

Fair assessment mate. I thought the same regarding the vid, though I too need to try the latest build before I can pass judgement properly.

Honestly, I don’t know which is worse.  The trolls or the ones going on about the trolls.

The problem seems to be that these so-called trolls are expressing their opinion as if it’s fact and usually in some less-than-constructive manner.  That is to say, posting ‘blah blah sucks’ instead of saying you don’t like and expressing a valid reason why.  I guess at least adding an ‘imo’ at the end would help but I doubt that’s going to happen.

Rubbishing a game in alpha state is pretty pointless though ‘imo’.   Have you seen how many changes, fixes and improvements there are between builds in the changelog history ?  It’s called progress.   Show me a sim that is up to par at alpha stage compared to it’s final release.

Ideally what needs to stop is people posting 1 line comments like ‘rfactor 2 graphics sucks’ or ‘CARS looks good but the rest is rubbish’ just to get attention or push other peoples buttons.  But at the same time things aren’t helped when the same people (you know who you are) call out the ‘trolls’ on every post.  That’s just as provocative.

Also I doubt you’d get Rob to ban anyone because they call something rubbish.  Sure it’s not the more mature way to voice your opinion but unless it’s really seriously upsetting people to the point of frenzy or getting personal, I’m not sure what the appropriate action would be.
Am I or Rob to ask people now not to post opinions as if they were facts ?  Ban words like crap, sucks etc. ?
Trolls feed off replies and attention and yet you keep giving it to them.
Just cos they say ‘whatever’ sucks doesn’t make it so.  It’s their opinion and clearly they are not expressive or mature enough to post it in any other way.
If you’re going to respond to them at least try not to drag yourself down to their level while doing so.

While these new sims are developing in parallel to one another, we’re going to get people expressing their loyalties to one sim or another instead of embracing them all.  Some sim racers seem to do this.  Pick a title to favour and, by default, rubbish the competition for whatever reason possible.
Other sim-racers, the true ones imo, will give a fair chance to all these new sims or at least look at them all objectively and have their own opinions on each whether good or not so good.
It’s incredible how much assumption and presumption there is on Assetto Corsa and we’ve only seen screenshots.   It’s an opinionated community and unfortunately we are stuck with those who have eyes for one or maybe 2 sims and blinkers on for the rest.
Are we that spoiled in this community with an overflowing amount of sim racing titles that we can be afford to be armchair experts and slag off this, that and the other with such ease ?
Right now, we can give feedback to both CARS and rF2 that may affect the final release.  How many of those people who think either of these sims ‘sucks’ are doing anything active in that area by providing constructive feedback in the titles relevant forum ?

CARS is in pre-alpha, Assetto Corsa much the same and rF2 in beta.   Lets allow for that can we ?

  • Anonymous

Of course people are allowed an opinon.  It would just be preferred or nicer if the fact that it is pre-alpha is taken into consideration in that opinion.

The commenting on these pcars articles is getting pretty annoying to read. Anyone who has even the smallest complaint or just doesn’t like this is labelled as troll and told “it is alpha” so you can’t write any criticism about this because everything is just temporary or being fixed.

As long as people are not breaking their nda they have full rights to write their opinion. If someone does not like pcars then he is not instantly a troll…

Personally I think pcars looks more and more promising every day. I’m not a fan of pcars or slightly mad and I’m definitely not a fan of their past creations. I have doubts whether they can pull this off if a racing sim is what they eventually decide to make this. The graphics look excellent though and the speed of development is just nothing short of amazing. The car selection is imho just plain amazing too. The car handling looks very shift like and poor on video though. But as a whole it looks promising.

What kind of game it eventually becomes is everyone’s guess. But we live in today and now and what matters today and now is how it is now. If it is crap now or awesome now people should be able to say it on this comment section without being called out by the selected few. After all the thing most people (who are interested about getting pcars) want to know is how it is now.

If you think someone is troll then you should check what is the recommended way of dealing with trolls on internet… That’s right. Ignore the trolls. In the worst case miss an opportunity to say bad things… In the best case. You missed nothing.

You actually make a good point. We are falling for the trolling by giving it attention.

Everyone’s comments will ultimately be proved/disproved on release day for these games. Personally I’m very confident in pCARS from following the development very closely, I know some people feel the opposite because they didn’t like the Shift games.
And some just criticise it as if it were a finished game, having no understanding of development. This is the first time a major game has had such an open development and we are seeing all the early stuff that we wouldn’t normally see.

  • pez2k .

I agree that people should be free to say whatever they feel, but at the same time I would say that it does a lot more good in the long run to post constructive criticism on the pCARS forum than just complain in a comments section of another site. The point of mentioning that it’s pre-alpha isn’t just to note that it’s naturally going to be unfinished, but also a reminder that there’s still plenty of time for us to influence how the final game will be.

  • noro ardanto

Yup trolls feed of replies, just ignore them or you’re in danger of becoming one imho, BTW “….and I’m definitely not a fan of their past creations” this includes GTR2 and GT Legends?

  • Anonymous

Exactly.  I was privileged to see Shift 2 develop from a beta stage all the way up to final during an 8 month period.  The amount of work that goes in every day was impressive.  As you say, pCars is development in the open and I guess it’s a new concept for a lot of people.  Expecting features to be implemented, finished or correct from the early alpha days, and/or slagging them off because they aren’t, is a bit unfair.
There are things in CARS that I think are not quite right yet such as the twitchy pivoty feel of the cars in corners but I’m just hoping that it’s not just me that notices this and it will improve or be sorted by the beta or later stages.  These things don’t happen overnight and need patience not pre-judgements. Comparisons to Shift/Shift 2 aren’t valid either because that’s where SMS’s potential was stifled somewhat by EA.  Now they are free to develop CARS in a direction not dictated to by a large publishing company.

how much fps do you get… I get the delay when my fps goes below 40

    Yes I agree.

  • noro ardanto

“its a two way lane” … I like this mate! @montoya: Instead of saying “Please stop posting nonsense” just post a counter argument if you don’t like one opinion imho.

I think even at this stage pCars ffb feels far more superior than Shiftr/Shift2 and looks much better too!. Anyone still have doubts, give it a try! it’s only 10 euro! cmon you must have 10 euro lying around somewhere in your room

rF2, pCars, GTR3 and Assetto Corsa all have potential to be the ultimate sim racing GAME, time will tell.. what I know now is that simracing wise, 2012 is gonna be awesomely fun!

This game is improving with each build.  I just wish you could set the steering and breaking help to low, medium or high as one can do with traction control.  The graphics are outstanding I think.  And being  over fifty years old I can actually control the cars with my steering wheel and pedals.  I do believe the game  is going to improve more more with each build.

So much time has passed and the game as it was Shift2 remained to her.

And I think that it can never become a popular simulator. The usual game can and will. But the simulator is likely to not be totally correct physics. Here is a new physics engine for the simulation http://www.carx-tech.com. That’s what it should be.

Yesterday saw the video my friend who has never played this game, but played in the Shift. He once said that even on the videos it is clear that the management of both the Shift. Although I told him nothing about the CARS did not.

Reading stupid comments without any explanation about what people don’t like is annoying too (I don’t write that for your post that is not that).

Writing it’s like Shift without writing what is not right is plain stupid. It’s a racing game, of course it can looks like Shift that is also a racing game but it can look like iRacing or nKPro too.

If those people don’t explain what they don’t like, they are just trolling.

Nice update, sticking with junior build for 10 euros, monthly updates are better because you get all updates in one package, graphics are simply stunning on the right PC and Screen.

Still find the Handling and FFB the weakest link, surely will get better over time. liking the new silverstone track a lot and driver hands on the formula cars look good.

  • Anonymous

    It’s just my opinion.

It looks beautiful.   No dispute there, I suppose?

It’s rubbish?    Well, just watch the car through that video.   What’s rubbish about it is clear enough.  You think that’s a decent representation of a racecar through corners?  I don’t.  It’s still  behind rfactor1.  ”The twitchy pivoty feel” is clear enough in the vid.  I think that’s going to take a lot to sort out.

Hopefully they manage it because it can **look** absolutely fabulous.    And by “rubbish” I mean ‘compared to what else is about’ – rF2, iRacing, rF1 even.

If they can’t get a convincing driving model going properly, it’s just eye-candy.    They aren’t there yet, which is clear in the video.   IMO.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Sorry, but “It’s rubbish?    Well, just watch the car through that video.   What’s rubbish about it is clear enough.” is not clear to me. It is YOUR interpretation of the physics based on a video. Hardly objective or explanatory, I’m not in your head !

But this last post looks more like it. If you say something is rubbish, please explain it to me, so I can agree (or disagree, but that’s fine too) with you based on objective and well defined points.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jcruze88 Justin ForzaBarça Cruze

Perhaps your friend recognised the HUD which is basically the same as the Shift series….

  • Anonymous

I couldn’t agree more.   See, now you’ve expressed yourself far better, you’ll probably get a good few people agreeing with you too which is better than the replies you got last time.

The point was that people just coming on and saying ‘It’s rubbish’, ‘This sucks’ or whatever doesn’t help anything.  Without explaining yourself or writing something a little more expansive, it just comes across as if you’re trying to provoke people or get some attention.
By ‘you’ I mean people in general, not your personally. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Scott, this is constructive criticism, and it’s your actual opinion, thanks for sharing.

Indeed, handling is still “weird” for me too in CARS. Especially when compared to the Megane in rF2. And it changes from car to car…

Have you expressed your thoughts on the WMD forum ? I, for one, am completely lost in there, there’s sooo much going on !

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

What I find most disturbing, is that physics change from car to car. For example, I have quite some fun in the DTM but can’t complete a circuit with the Atoms.

But it’s ok for me because I have no expectations for pCARS as a game for NOW. It’s a project in development and I take it as such. When I drive it, it’s not for the fun, it’s to test and possibly give some feedback on the WMD portal.

What I really wonder, is how much it helps to post anything on pCARS here on VirtualR ?

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

What kind of settings do you use as far as helpers go ?
I used to like to remove them all, in order to feel like a real man with an impossible car to drive but with nuts the size of coco ;)
Now that I eventually grew a bit older (one hope wiser too), I realized the fun is not in the complexity, but the fluidity of the simulation (like in life, the universe and everything, btw ;)
So I’m actually thinking about turning on some aids, but would like your take on the matter…

  • badracer

AC has a different style of graphics. I wuldn´t say it´s ahead of pCARS, but I also wouldn´t say pCARS is the most beautiful game out there, because it stil lacks in some graphics-departments (f.e. naturalness). Both games have there ups and downs. But clearly to see, that pCARS is going to have much more ability to handle polygon counts.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

“Ideally what needs to stop is people posting 1 line comments like ‘rfactor 2 graphics sucks’ or ‘CARS looks good but the rest is rubbish’ just to get attention or push other peoples buttons.  But at the same time things aren’t helped when the same people (you know who you are) call out the ‘trolls’ on every post.  That’s just as provocative.”
Some people indeed call out the trolls on every post, but that was only after we got flooded and flooded and flooded again with endless trolling, without any reaction from the head of the community. It’s the only place I know of where trolls are actually protected and defended. Everywhere else, they get banned.

It’s always the same people saying the same things over and over again. You see the nick, you know what they’re gonna say.

Why are you so afraid to take real action ?

  • Anonymous

The FFB have improve a lot since the early builds and it’s great so far.  But the physics is not there yet, so hopefully it will get better.

Hey guys, I want to get into this whole project cars thing, but I need a couple of things explanied to me before my wallet comes out.

Can I use a PC xbox controller in the game?

I don’t have the best of PC’s, I can run about 35 cars on GTR2 on max graphics without lag, will my PC handle the game? Is there a variety of graphical settings or is it max or bust?

Is the career thing available now? I don’t really unerstand what I am going to get with the junior membership? Can you do 24 hour races and championships in its current form or is it literally just test races?

Lastly, will I have to pay for anything else other than membership? Will you have to pay for the new stuff when the game becomes bigger?

Thanks, I have been trying to find out how this works, but the site just confuses me…
    S

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alex-White/655487760 Alex White

You should have no input lag then?

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

Yes you can use a 360 pad.

You can probably run it fairly well, but not max. There’s a decent amount of graphical options to play about with, so fear not.

Career, not yet. Currently you can time trial, free practice, and quick race, with both single and mixed classes.

No, payment is one time only, you don’t pay for each new build of the game. And upgrading your membership you only pay the difference, not the full amount for that membership.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

I’m in the same boat as Laurent. I’ve been blazing around in the R500, it’s come on leaps and bounds since I last used it. But the atoms(all three) still feel numb, and felt better in previous builds. Hopefully the next pass on those cars fixes is, I believe it’s just a ffb issue with those cars.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

    This one too…?

I think it’s supposed to say the game is still the same as shift. But I can’t say for sure…

  • Anonymous

What do you mean real action ?   You want people banned for saying a game is rubbish ?
This place would be virtually empty.

If action were taken against those you call trolls, don’t be surprised if you find yourself in that list too.
You may not directly troll but your replies to these people you call trolls are equally as provocative.  You don’t let one slip by without jumping in with a comment against them, calling them trolls.
I don’t think you can’t ban people for saying a game is rubbish.  This isn’t a dictatorship.  They’re allowed to say it even though it is annoying and not the most constructive or mature way to express oneself.  Some people just know no better.

However, I think you know me well enough to know that I’m not someone who condones their behaviour or is afraid to confront it.  If it gets bad enough (i.e. the 3 ‘p’s  profanity, personal or overly provocative) it will be dealt with I assure you.  What we don’t need is other people replying in a similarly provocative manner calling them trolls every time.

It’s up to Montoya how strict he wants to get on this but apart from being annoying and immature I don’t think anyone has really crossed a major line so far.   I`ll be there when and if they do.

Don’t let it get to you so easily. This is not the end of the world.

  • Cato Larsen

Fair enough mate. I see no reason to get into an argument with you on the subject. You`re the boss here. And I just started posting after a long time lurking. I can see that I dont post things the right way, so maybe I should lurk a bit more and find the tone that goes in here?

Btw. I know it is pre-aplha, I know it is in development, I just dont know how to express myself in the correct manner to please both pro and con affiliated people.
    Sorry for that mate.

  • http://www.facebook.com/antoniaphil Philip Antonia

Well I tried the new build, but unfortunatley I cannot tell any difference in feel because it has become a slide show for me :(.

I could run the game (not very well) with my previous setup of a Core 2 Duo E6400 O’cd to 2.93ghz, 4gb OCZ Ram and my ATi 4870 512 Gfx card.

Then I replaced my CPU with a i5 2500K Oc’d to 4.2 and 8GB Corsair Ram and my ATi 4870 512 GFX card and the game was running very nicely with most settings to Max/High.

Now after installing the new build even with all settings to minimum it barely runs at all!!!

I have all the helps on except for braking.  I turn that off on depending on what type of car I
driving. The tracking control is on full. Without that being on full I spin out alot.  But I have been
testing driving with traction control set on low and medium. But for now it is full on.  With those helps on I can do pretty good. I have been able to stay on the courses and enjoy racing.  I really looking forward to further builds.  So far I think this is the best racing game I have driven and it is getting better all the time.

That tells us nothing. We need your actual specs. GTR2 is way too old to judge performance with.

I don’t think the videos do it justice. Maybe it’s the refresh rate or something, but it doesn’t look like the speed increases and decreases at all. I haven’t played it yet. That’s just my thoughts based on the videos I’ve seen.

Installed it again ran it for 30 min and then uninstalled again. You can make it as eyecandy as it can be but handling is a dealbreaker for me. Still they haven’t got rid of the Shift like steering. I don’t feel totally in control. Some mystique force is making me stay on the road on a strange way.

It’s nice to see you commit that iRacing feels disconnected und less drivable than pCARS. If iRacing seriously is your argument for the opposite of pCARS, namely for being in control of your car, you must becoming from another planet. Shift was made so every casual player stays in control of the car. So if you are not in control of your car in Shift, you should stay faaaaaar away from iRacing.

  • Anonymous

Not being in control I don’t mean keeping it on the road yes or no. I mean the way it reacts too my input. If you think pCars does that better fine with me but you probably life in a different physical world.

  • Ricoo

I like iRacing but I am also perfectly in control in Project CARS. Some cars are difficult to handle but nothing strange. And I have absolutely no mystic forces keeping me on the track… Maybe 30 min is not enough to set-up your wheel and try several cars/tracks.

  • Anonymous

I dunno, the low level touring cars in iRacing after the latest build are incredibly forgiving. Really requires significant overdriving plus a bump or huge curb attack to get the car to loop. Gone are the days where the slower you drove in iRacing the less grip you had.

Not as easy as an arcade game, but definitely not super touchy like it used to be.

  • Anonymous

I havent tried the lastest iRacing yet, but you mentioned the touring cars and then not having less grip the slower you drive.  Are you still referring to the touring car ?

Because increased grip with speed comes from downforce.  So you are likely to notice such a thing in the winged open wheelers that produce bags of it.

  • Anonymous

Ok ok you’re both from a different world :)

I think its obvious that pCARS input system feels better to some than to others.  Whether thats down to the wheel or settings or whatever.   So you can’t just say some someone it feels fine when they are having issues to the contrary.

  • Anonymous

In reference to the Old Tire Model. That model had a big issue with having too much grip at higher speeds, so to compensate they had to reduce grip at all speeds to get race pace to match. Unfortunately, that meant that driving well under the limit had too little grip, as well as that the grass had way too much grip leading to the iced feeling.

Now the cars have plenty of grip at low speeds, in addition to being pretty forgiving with respect to stepping over the limit by slowing you down with a wiggle, instead of just spinning you or letting you keep going faster with a drift. That leads to the driving feeling altogether more forgiving.

If you haven’t tried the latest build of iRacing and have a subscription, you owe it to yourself to try it, at least of the low downforce cars. The higher df cars that just got the new tires have some temperature issues.

  • Eric Zehnder

You’d be paying for monthly releases of Alpha builds. There is no career yet or multiplayer. What there is is frequent track, car, FFB, and physics releases. You get the opportunity to shape the direction of the game, talk to Ben Collins (The Stig!), give feedback to the devs, and generally get access to an awesome game for a ridiculously low price. I went with the Team Member level because I wanted weekly builds and I’m glad I did.

I find it fascinating to watch the devs talk about how they’re tweaking certain aspects to make it more realistic, comparisons to other games, community feedback, etc.

Eventually you’ll get all the features we’ve come to expect. 24 hour transitions aren’t far away, multiplayer is further away, career is moderately far away, and new tracks and cars come out every 3 to 4 weeks.

Also, Formula A was just released in pre-Alpha version; this means it’s far more rough than the older cars like the ’67 F1 car, Audi DTM, or Audi R18 LM. The Formula A doesn’t handle anything like a real F1 car and it won’t until it’s brought up to Beta 2 status through dev work, feedback, and testing that you can be a part of.

Hopefully you’ll join and see for yourself!

  • Anonymous

Yeah it’s been a while since I was iRacing so I`ll pop on this week and grab all the updates and see how things are.

  • Eric Zehnder

The reason this happens is because people say things like “The car handling looks very shift like and poor on video though.” Seems rather improbable to be able to judge the overall character and handling of a game in development just by a video.

The old F1 cars break traction at the rear going over humps and out of slow corners, newer cars perform similar lap times to real cars, and the FFB allows you to feel what’s going on around the car with a moderate level of sophistication.

Does that not also describe rFactor 2 and iRacing? :/

  • Anonymous

Yeah. Definitely grab some setups from the forums, as always you can find much better stuff than baseline pretty easily. It’s a huge difference when you do an A/B between cars on the two models.
