Project CARS – Hockenheim Reality Check

Following the much-discussed Bathurst reality check video, DigiProst has created another virtual to real life comparison of a Project CARS track.

This time, the comparison shows off Hockenheim as he has taken real-life footage from the first DTM round at the German Grand Prix venue to compare with Project CARS.

Hockenheim is among the Project CARS content instantly available to try in the latest development builds for team members. Team Membership is available for a one-time payment of 25€, entitling members to a weekly development build of Project CARS with all the latest content.

For more info on membership pricing and benefits, please check out the WMD website.

Besides some minor color tweaking and some elevation/camber adjustments, it’s looking very nice.

What do you think, after my ban, could I repay for this one again ??? :D
( I promise don’t make any idiot comment again )

This track is one of the worst trackcreations I’ve seen from Hockenheim.
    flat as a cake,
totaly wrong North Turn (the one after start/finish)
    and no camber at all
it’s sad to see that codemaster has the best version of Hockenheim in their GAME,
I would like to see a real Hockenheim in a Simulatioin!

So is this a SDTV cam feed compared to downscaled 1080p pcars ingame GFX

They should apologize to you, as all you did was tell the truth!

  • http://www.facebook.com/HEYFANTA Danni Volquard Fugl

    two words………….. Under development

  • Jongseong kim

Listen to the engine sound. I think what we need is realistic sounds not graphics.

  • Anonymous

i agree it does look flat and a bit dull at this stage but i’m sure they are working on it!!

  • Big Ron

    You both should get married.

  • Big Ron

I wouldn´t say it´s one of the worst, but it´s really flat. When I am right the environment artists didn´t invest much time to the bump modeling, which will happen later in development.

  • Anonymous

    I’m in love with truth!!

  • Eric Zehnder

Looking at the real camera I didn’t really notice any camber worth modeling. The cut back in the arena section has more camber in the game (cockpit) then this camera view shows. Other than that it does seem like that track is pretty damn flat. I’m a much bigger fan of the Nurburgring than Hockenheim when F1 goes back and forth.

im not the biggest fan of pcars(would change if they make a step forward in the physics department)but track modeling is nicely done in this game. have done some laps on the real thin (not dtm audi but hockenheim) and i got to say this is pretty close. only thing i would change is the trees. they looks different than irl.

  • Anonymous

Yah they have defiantly improved the physics gradually over time but its still fundimentaly broken with under steer totally messed up and the cars driving as if they are devoid of life.

visually i think Pcars is a bit to glowy with overly bright textures but some of the content does look really nice.

  • Niksounds B

    Actually no bumps?

  • http://www.facebook.com/HoboHealy Joshua Healy

The trees for most tracks are place holders for now, and if that’s pretty much the only thing you’d change then thats pretty darn good isn’t it :P

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MJ3BAGWB6PMBLOJZCP5AZFVMIA Mark

No, your in love with yourself! And if your so passionate about the truth, why do you always have time here when there are more important areas in the world that you should be searching for the truth? You should start by looking in the mirror, because it certainly looks like you got a bit of chip on your shoulder!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

How is it possible to under develop something that’s still being developed? ;)

  • Ricoo

Either you ask for apology and permission to take part again, but you are not sure at all to be accepted, or you use an other paypal account and a nickname.

  • Luke Russell

Yeah, this video doesn’t do pCARS any favours.

  • old gamer4

The real DTM footage looks arcade. :p

Regarding bumps and camber, etc, – as far as I am aware, almost all the tracks (like everything else) in pCARS are still in a very early stage of development in this regard. Their version of Watkins Glen is the most advanced in terms of bump modelling, etc, so far I think – so go check that out if you want to look at bumps.

As for those around here who are judging handling, sound, or pretty much any aspect of a game from Youtube videos alone, some even writing elaborate critical essays – I really wonder why you bother – you really shouldn’t waste your time. Why not just play it and give an informed opinion? Or else wait until it is released before passing your profound judgements. I really don’t understand all the flack this game, which to me seems very promising, seems to get around here. The joys of bizarro internet-comment-land I suppose.

Uh, he didn’t say under developed, he said under development, basically the same point you’re making.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gulyopapa Gulyás Tamás

    You should …

  • gt3rsr

WTF??? You got a ban from a game you paid for just for a comment? Did you get a refund?

  • http://www.facebook.com/Siggers Ross Siggers

Under development can also mean under developed. Silly english language :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/horrace.foster Horrace L Foster

I Like that answer, I cant understand why people dont see those loud letters, UNDER DEVELOPMENT!!!. If you dont like what the company is doing or the direction its going, leave it alone, Half of the people who make these comments dont even play the games. It is just like the crap that you read about Rfactor2.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alejandro-Gorgal/100001838355397 Alejandro Gorgal

He did get a refund, and his comments (several of them) were in the lines of:

“This game is Arcade! Too bad SMS can’t make a sim, only Simbim can”

If that’s not asking to get banned, nothing is.

  • Anonymous

I’m with you. It’s amazing how seriously some people take their fun.

  • Anonymous

I meant the truth about pcars phyx…..
Do you have anything constructive to say regarding the state of pcars phyx?

  • Anonymous

He spoke from the heart….and was dumped for telling the truth!!!

  • Anonymous

SMS gave him exactly what he wanted ?
He basically said “this game is never going to be what i want it like” except in way worse wording. So SMS gave him a refund since they don’t think he can contribute to the development.
Nothing wrong with that at all.

  • Big Ron

What´s up with your truth-thing? It´s your truth, but for sure not the truth of all. If you believe in god and that he exists doesn´t mean that this is my belief or the belief of others.

You should learn to make a difference between your opinion and those of others and stop selling your truth as the ultimate one.

    How is pcars a sim?

  • Anonymous

I have many racing games and many sims….I also intend to buy AC/GTR3/Reiza projects and pcars.

  • Big Ron

What has that to do with my reply?

  • Anonymous

I wished I could replay in German to tell you what I think of your…..did some laps on the real thing.
Can’t tell you how many hundret laps I did there in real life, yes in a formula car and in a TT .
If you think this is pretty close, than tell me how you can take your laps blindfolded ???

  • http://www.facebook.com/kris.baxter2 Kris Baxter

cos it simulates driving cars, whether it does it badly or not at this stage is irrelevant, it simulates. It doesn’t have arcade features like points for drifting, or extra stars for crashing, or police chases, it simulates driving a race car around a race track, and is in still in development, something you clearly don’t seem to be able to grasp. I would talk slower so you understood but it doesn’t come across well in text.
If you are such an expert and have beef with the physics, then how about telling Ian what they are doing wrong? Otherwise, change your name to “expertonnothing” and zip it.

  • Anonymous

    To Kris baxter.

Your simple minded comments ignore the distinction between sim and arcade.

  • Anonymous

correct, this is the mash fest braking and grip fest handling I’ve been referring to.

  • http://twitter.com/timpiie Timpie Claessens

Hi David Ignjatovic… Still not able to properly spell physics? Or is that you bro slang?

  • Anonymous

    Really? I mean really?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alejandro-Gorgal/100001838355397 Alejandro Gorgal

I know that you have some issues, but seriously, this is one of those unique chances where a developer opens up its doors to show you all the steps in game development and let you talk freely and provide feedback to improve the game.
You can take that chance to provide your knowledge and expertize in racing to improve the sim (like several have done, which was later acknowledged by the developers and fixed), or you can use it to say dumb things that you know will get you banned.

Seriously, how do you expect that shouting “Arcade!” like a baboon is going to help? You really think that the game is arcade? Then speak your mind in a civilized manner, backup your comments with real world data (comparing other sims does not count, we all know that no current sim is perfect) and the developers WILL listen to you.
It’s your choice, you can either become the mockery of yourself that you currently are, which has so far achieved nothing but ridicule you, or you can be part of the solution.

You’ve just been educated’, peace out!

Not a fair comparison. Reality looks a bit lo-rez compared to pCars :)

  • Anonymous

Keep going and see where it gets ya !    Please, test me!

  • Skytrill .

yeah but reality doesn’t handle like crap. graphics are really nice but everytime I get a new build its the same.. some cars handles OK while some others (Lotus 86 for example) are worse than a very bad joke. I’ve been trying hard to drive it on monza yesterday by adjusting the control in any way possible, in vain.. Wobling left-right-left like retarded on every straights. So yeah it looks nice.. but then? We’re suppose to drive these cars not taking pictures of them. The steering wheel makes all sorts of noise on straight lines but I feel nothing ! I understand they want to lure people around the game with all these screens and videos.. but that won’t be enough to keep them with this FFB.
I still believe they can improve drastically the feel of this game, but I feel it is not a priority.

  • Anonymous

    Are those the technical terms?

  • http://www.facebook.com/kris.baxter2 Kris Baxter

I don’t recall having that issue anymore. I know I used to in Shift2, and early Pcars builds, but not lately, I find it easy to hold a line, particularly close to the outside of the track, with no wheel wobble and yet still providing feel. You got me wondering now, I’ll have to check.

  • Skytrill .

If you want to check it out try the F1 Lotus1986 for a drive :)
I didn’t had much problem with the other cars I tried but this one still feels horrible.. unfortunately.
In case it’s fine for you, please post your settings if you have a minute cause I tried everything in game and in windows without any success. I’m on a g27.
