Project CARS – First BMW Z4 GT3 Previews

Slightly Mad Studios have released first previews of the BMW Z4 GT3, the first of ten BMWs to join Project CARS.

As announced last week, Project CARS will feature ten BMW road & race cars and the Z4 is the first in line to join the sim. To cut the waiting time until members can experience a first version of the car, a bunch of development shots have been released.

The Z4 GT3 is BMW’s top end customer race car designed to the FIA GT3 rules that are used in various series around the world, including the iconic Nürburgring 24 Hours race. Weighing 1190 kilograms. the Z4 GT3 is powered by a BMW 4.4 liter V8 engine providing 515hp of power that is transmitted using a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters.

Next stop for the Z4 is next weekend’s Total 24 Hours race at Spa Franchorchamps where several BMW customer teams will be gunning for the overall race win, facing over 70 competitors.

WMD members can not just try the car once the first drivable version is ready, they also get to follow development of the whole title up cloase in the WMD forums. Membership  starts at a one-time payment of 10€ for Junior access, for more info on pricing and benefits of membership please check out the WMD website.

Is the policy regarding that changed Rob ?
You slapped me on the wrist for that a while ago. :-)

I don’t want to bring SMS/WMD past but isn’t Z4 GT3 in SHIFT2 which means most of the work is done.  Or are they starting from scratch which to me doesn’t make sense.

All assets from Shift 2 belong to EA, absolutely nothing is being reused for pCARS.

Wouldn’t be of use anyways, Shift 2 had an earlier version, the 2012 car is vastly different :)

I don’t think they start everything from zero, I don’t think so …

They should improve handling system btw … still very arcadish …

Can’t wait to compare it to the A.C. one.

  • Big Ron

How much do we bet, that no car or track from SHIFT2 can be used? EA would kick their ass.

Any way, you can see that they start everything from scratch since the level of detail is much higher.

Awesome…But the RS500 is the one i cant wait for, Long over due in the simracing world.  ( TCL version was pretty naf imo )

  • Matt Orr

I just love how GT3 went from being a lower end series with relatively mild pure race cars to the point they might as well be the new GT2. heh

More GT3 in cars is good news.. I like open wheelers  especially the Rookie car but road cars are my thing.

The guys that take care of the modelling do a great job! That looks incredible! I’m not the biggest fan of BMW’s but I understand the community loves them and i’m sure will make a lot of people chuffed!

  • Chris Allen

Totally agree, absolutely amazing modeling.  Now if they could just get the same level of quality on the physics this will be frickin amazing!!

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Nice one Chris.  You nailed the format of ‘how to praise something in pCARS’ to absolute perfection. :)  Textbook. hehe

  • Eric Zehnder

It’s almost like a disclaimer these days and ESPECIALLY in places like RaceDepartment. You can either use that disclaimer at the end or, if it’s missing, wait for a reply that will say the same.

It’s amazing to me how this whole thing started on NoGripRacing and everyone was excited. By the time builds were coming out everyone changed their minds completely because things weren’t perfect immediately.

  • Chris Allen

That was all mine, I copied off no-one, nor do I even visit RD or NoGrip. I am simply stating that the physics do not match the level of graphics. Not sure I understand the babbling there….or the reasons for it.

Absolutely How I feel too Chris, I’m looking forward to the new tyre model developments which they are currently working on. The game is shaping up so nicely they would be crazy to let the physics bring it down! looking forward to its release although that may be some time off yet!

Chris, its not what you think :)    Just that there are many posts that praise pCARS for graphics, models etc.  But a common last sentence is ‘But the physics are…’  or ‘If only the physics……’       That’s all, just an observation :)

  • Chris Allen

Thanks..cleared that up, kinda felt like I was being called a copycat for something I hadn’t seen lol ;)
