Project CARS – Builds 345 + 346 Available

Slightly Mad Studios have released two new weekly builds of Project CARS, introducing the Zakspeed Group 5 Ford Capri among other changes.

The builds give members the first chance to sample the Group 5 turbo-powered monster of Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft fame.

As usual with very early car versions in Project CARS, the car comes with lots of placeholder details such as textures, sounds physics and more – Members will be able to experience the continued development of the car first hand in the coming weeks.

Build 346 (9/11/12, Junior Member+)
Enviroment:
* Fix for cloud shadows bug which caused sparkly rain
Physics:
* Reverted change made to BNew.hpp that was added initially to fix Physics linking with PhysX 3. This is better handled by making sure that all projects that use the Base Game Kernel include the game kernel headers correctly, doing so then prevents <new> from being included
EOR Screens:
* Fixes for the missing score display
* Championship scoring now comes from data rather than being hard-coded, and can be set per-Championship. Scoring and Championship data added so the current ones demonstrate different scoring for larger groups and head-to-head
Tracks:
* Moravia: AIW’s and TRD’s updated to support 36 car grids
* Monterey: AIW’s and TRD’s updated to support 36 car grids
* Summerton: AIW’s and TRD’s updated to support 36 car grids
* Eifelwald: Tweaked graffiti textures
* Eifelwald: Added graffiti textures
Vehicles:
* Correct fix for SP300R tyre widths

Build 345 (9/11/12, Junior Member+)
Online:
* Added sender’s NodeRefId to participant finished events
* Changed Timings’ remote results not to rely on sender’s local player participant Ids, and changes it to use the sender’s node id
* Fixed some asserts in NodeRefIfSet
* Removed driver duel legacy messages
* Fixed invalid format string for curl errors
Enviroment:
* Special effects now using acessors instead of direct variables for the weather state
* Tidy up of env systems to make all weather state member variables protected out side of the enviroment lib
Bug Fixing:
* Fix for leaderboard post-race crash
Input:
* Recreate menu set for device upon device reinitialisation
* Automatic wheel preset selection will now prefer combined pedal presets if the controller indicates it is operating in combined mode
EOR Screens:
* Adding post race standings screen
* Updating post race leaderboards screen
* Fixes for post race screens – correct track name, and round number
Physics:
* Updated conversions from 4×4 matrix to PhysX transform to always normalise resulting quaternion
* Physics system files for the dynamic tyre objects placed on belgian forest kart track
SETA:
* Updated parameter set for FA tyre
GUI:
* Kerning on load screen font fixed, background now in lobby screen rather than just empty blackness
* Weird white pixels removed from background image
Tracks:
* Milan: Add seats textures
* Eifelwald GP: New static lights
* Heudsen: New texture maps
* Derby National: New road, inner terrain, barriers, kerbs etc from Schwantz to new Esses
* Derby GP: New road, inner terrain, barriers, kerbs etc from Schwantz to new Esses
* Derby: New textures addition
* Belgian Forest Karting Circuit: Dynamic tyres added
* Florence Short: Thrustmaster Event Dressing (tyre wall logos), tyre wall fixes
* Azure Circuit: Placeholder textures added

* BMW Z4 GT3: Added Thrustmaster livery + red interior
* GUMPERT apollo: Windscreen raindrop effect added to CPIT and LODA

The new build is available via the Project CARS launcher that is available on the WMD Downloads Page, new members can register here.

Along with the new build, a new hot lap competition in co-operation with Thrustmaster has been launched where every member can win Thrustmaster gear such as steering wheels, gamepads and more. For more info on the competition, please click here.

Interested sim racers that want to join Project CARS get their last chance today as the title is just inches away from reaching its funding goal after which no new members will be accepted. With less than 17.000€ in need to be pitched in for the title to be fully funded, registration will much likely be closed within the next 24 hours.

Those that aren’t on board before the goal is reached won’t get a chance to sample Project CARS before the retail release on Thanksgiving 2013. For more info, please check out the WMD website.

Didn’t they say this not long ago? Not that I’ll EVER support them of course after their leader’s threats and Darin Gangi style online meltdown recently but I ALMOST did get involved just before that. Now? Not a chance in Hell.

darin gangi meltdown? threats? I must be missing something, Can someone explain?

Thanks for the link. Didn’t follow that “discussion” at all.

    • Alejandro Gorgal

Can we have one pCARS thread without a conspiracy? Like, just one.

In other, happier news, less than 20K to finish funding the game, it was a lot faster than I imagined.

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

maybe if their main guy didn’t run around censoring people and threatening lawsuits, Yes, but well, after his hissyfit, I myself will in NO way support his effort. Ironically I was about to do so but as *I refuse to support ISR/SRT because of a member of that clown crew I also will not support this bunch due to the buffoonish behaviour of a member of it.

      • Joeri Blootacker

You are not making yourself popular either with posts like that… :)
i can understand you got pissed of somehow, but why keep coming back to it ….? is like a broken record then, and people get pissed of by you then as well. (sorry to say it !) i do respect your opinion of course.

      • daz

Great, you have no intention of signing up to PCARS and have no time for ISR/SRT. Move on and go an frequent some other forums you do have time for and quit boring us all with your whining.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

I don’t know why people make a post on something they don’t like and don’t play. Why waste the time or the energy ?

Wouldn’t your time be better spent contributing positively to something you do like ?
I mean, to be brutally honest, I don’t think anyone here cares what you refuse to support.

Also you seem to base your decision of not supporting and entire project on what you think of 1 person in it. So, if you knew 1 guy at Apple was a complete ‘clown’ or a ‘buffoon’ would you still buy an iPhone/iPad etc ?

If pCARS is something you would otherwise enjoy then I think you’re doing yourself a disservice by avoiding it for what I consider to be petty reasons. Or were you personally censored ?

I mean with such a positive way about you, I can’t see why they would be.

      • Anonymous

I don’t think I will ever support you either for your buffoonish behavior lol ….why so serious? we’re talking about a game right? something that really gives us pleasure and happiness but not really important in our life

      • C4

Racing wether real or sim is more then just a game, even more then just a hobby for many people.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRoggan Roger

Your loss, personally I don’t let individuals opinions and statements affect which sims I play or not. Sure some people might be or appear as assholes sometimes, but that’s up to them.

I think that Darin went overboard and I don’t agree with many of his rage statements, but I still watch the show as its a good show and he is a good presenter. I would be loosing out otherwise.

You are loosing out on experiencing the evolution of what might become the best car sim of 2013! I wouldn’t penalize myself like that :)

Besides, there are so many good and talented people who work with pCars that deserves the support, maybe not not all for their personality but for the great work they put in to create a great sim racing experience!

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Well said (apart from the expletive which we can do without by the way).
I couldn’t agree more with your entire post.
Having been at SMS for a short time myself, I can vouch for how professional, nice and extremely helpful these guys are.

  • Skytrill

I haven’t played since june or something and I’ve just updated the whole game, however I can’t find the Directx11.exe anymore.. Can someone tell me how do we start the game in Dx11?

    • Sparky245

When you start the launcher, in the drop down menu it says “Standard Game” and DirectX11 mode, and bobs the teapot :)

      • Big Ron

Correct. Use the launcher to get in DX11-mode or add -dx11 to the command line of the pcars.exe.

      • Skytrill

ok the new update gives the option for directx 11, thanks to both of you.

  • Anonymous

    1. have they fixed that FFB issue where the wheel pulls to the inside of the corner with full force as soon as i brake?

    2. can you give a link to that “online meltdown” of the lead guy at SMS?

    • http://www.facebook.com/triskele10 Peter Koch

      1. No they haven’t fixed it.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

        2. He was talking about Darin Gangi on that one.

Lets just be careful what gets focussed on here. I’m not going to let this thread turn into a discussion on Ian Bell or Darin Gangi. Keep it civil please everyone. I think that’s fair warning.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

Why would anyone here know if they have fixed a bug that has threatened you? You gotta try it out yourself dude…

    • Anonymous

go to the pCARS section on race department to see Ian threaten RD with lawsuits and all that stuff, etc.

I am not giving an opinion on this (anymore), but that’s where this stuff is and that’s what he asked for.

    • Eric Zehnder

      1. No, it’s still present here and there but is certainly being worked on.
      2. The lawsuit was due to outright lies (proven) being spewed on and propagated by the people at RD. Ian also provided 10 free accounts to people at RD as a good faith gesture after dropping the lawsuit. The amount of anger being stirred up over there is outrageous. You’d think SMS were trying to outlaw Sim racing or something…

  • http://twitter.com/TheRoggan Roger

pCars has really stepped it up now!

Since last weeks build SETA is now the default tire model but it has not been implemented and tuned for any car but the Formula A and the new Capri (which has its own tire compound, all other use the Formula A compound but I guess with adjusted grip levels)

Now when you steer the front of the cars responds in a realistic manner unlike before!

I think the balance is starting to get quite good now, the main problem now is that it appears to be a bit too much grip available while accelerating and turning on the slick compounds. But this is quite a small imperfection compared to the whole handling with the old tire model, im sure they will tweak this nicely before the final release!

    • Kendra Jacobs

your kidding me? The capri has the new tyre model? I havent played it yet, but from all the vids it looks like total simcade and boring simplified physics. Please tell me you are wrong and the capri uses the old tyre model.

      • http://twitter.com/TheRoggan Roger

Yes it has the new tire model, but this is a VERY early first cut of the car with placeholder physics and parameters for the tire model, im sure they will do lots of updates to this over the comming weeks.

I think it drives quite OK already for an early version, it does not feel arcade or faked to me

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Why not try driving it yourself first ?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

Yeah, SMS should really appologize to all hardcore sim racers out there to destroy their dream of ever sliding and hard to handle cars and giving the drivers more control over it.
Shame on you, SMS. Shame on you!

[/sarcasm] (just in case for all the guys who after one year still didn’t get the point about pCARS’ goals)

      • Anonymous

But don’t you think its a bit courageous and arrogant to say that ALL the sims prior to pCars were unrealistically difficult and ever sliding? Where do *you* pCars diehard fans get the confidence that SMS does it better than say ISI?
Dont get me wrong, I actually like pCars, but I cant get rid of the feeling its often way easier than it should be. rF2 physics is still way more accurate Im sure.

      • http://twitter.com/Dillyracer Dylan H.

The FA is the most advanced in the STM model and it’s definitely not sticking to the road and the back end gets away from you when using the wrong lines in corners, unlike the old model.

The Capri is slidey but controllable, nevertheless it will punish your mistakes.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

I have the confidence because I have driven race cars myself, and even touring cars without real aero provide a level of grip that makes you feel like being glued onto the track. Of course I can’t say if a single car in pCARS is physically 100% correct, but I can say that the general approach of pCARS is 100% right.

      • Anonymous

I hope someday someone will organize an event where professional race driver would compare and reviewing pcars, assetto corsa, rf2, gt3, gamestockcar and simraceway physics to end “this one more realistic / accurate.. that one is arcadie” debates. Unless someone has ever driven the real exact car in the real exact circuit, they shouldn’t make comments on how realistic/unrealistic a sim game is

      • GamerMuscle

This would not be of much use as all simulators even the best are a total joke when compared to the real thing.

It would certainly be interesting to have a group of 10 top drivers go from sim to sim all set up the same give there opinion.

One of the problems is that someone who is a top level driver in real cars will instantly find all simulators strange and so abstract from the real thing it would be hard for them to give meaningful input other than , we take that racing line , we brake here , this car is more or less grippy than that , graphics look good , car looks nice , car sounds right or wrong and other general vague responses.

I’m not saying you cannot use a simulator to train and its a fact many aspects of sim driving transfer to real racing. The sheer difficulty and total lack of feel found in simulators will probably help develop refined skills in a real driver.

I’m also not saying that having real world pro drivers to help develop a simulator wont be of use I just think its not the be all and end all and am more making the point of how abstract sims are from the real thing.

What we do need is more developers like Kunos or people that can drive to a high standard but also understand the aspects of abstraction and limitations in consumer hardware to allow them to deliver the best possible simulator for the technology available.

So in short what we need are real world drivers that are also programmers / car physics designers.

      • rui silva

Tiff Needell did that already and you know what … he chose the Simraceway stuff as the best … go figure.

      • http://twitter.com/Dillyracer Dylan H.

What serious simracer bases their opinion on watching a video?

        Worthless.

      • C4

You can see it’s look very unnatural and unrealistic. Not what you would want in a sim. Why do people put blind faith in a developer like that?

      • Anonymous

WMD is actually the exact opposite of blind faith. You get to try it first hand and those who didn’t like it even got their money back…what more could you possibly want?

      • C4

I wasn’t talking about WMD in general. Sorry if it came off like that! I know there all kinds of different people and opinions, even at a place like WMD :)

      • http://twitter.com/Dillyracer Dylan H.

How does blind faith work exactly in a system that allows weekly testing?

It is extremely hilarious to view your opinion (which you concluded out of watching a video, congratulations) as the right one and disregard the people who actually TEST these improvements by spouting nonsense about blind faith.

      • C4

I’m wondering what people like you will say in one year? When it’s finished.

If it’s so realistic there would be videos which show that and not that wether it’s beta, seta or alpha especially since people signed to stress the positive things.

Let’s just discuss it civilized in one year. Looking forward to.

      • http://twitter.com/Dillyracer Dylan H.

        “People like you”

It’s like I have a disease or something.

      • C4

Well, some people are overly negative, which I don’t agree as I said somewhere when you look at competing titles thhat are released next year like Dirt 2, F1 2013 and these kind of racing games, then pCars isn’t on a bad way. While you and others (“people like you”) are obviosly interested in seeing major improvements.

      • Joeri Blootacker

Beta, “Seta” or Alpha… you are missing something here ;)
Beta and Alpha are a project status, Seta is a tyre model.
about looking “unnatural” hate to break it, but if camera’s would fly along a F1 like we can do in a game, TV footage would look unnatural as well sometimes ;)

      • C4

I know. All 3 of them are greek words or letters. What’s the next they come up with? Won’t change what this project is about. Unless there’s a myriad of them.

That’s why I love onboard, helmet cams and telemetry. The conservative TV footage isn’t that good in my opinion as it’s doesn’t show that much of the cars and tracks. Guess they are afraid of too much camera motion.

      • Anonymous

It’s better than putting our faith into blind comments

Ur not serious r u? judging the physics by looking at the vids?

      • C4

Not “judge”. If it looks blatantly wrong you notice if you know about this stuff :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/jaimy.mewe Jaimy Mewe

Please, tell me more about this “stuff”

      • C4

Stuff about physics, vehicle dynamics and so on.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jaimy.mewe Jaimy Mewe

Ahh, and please tell me more about how much you know and applies to a video? Also, can you tell me what race cars you`ve driven and in which class you compete? Sounds like you know alot about this subject.

      • C4

Basic physics and engineering knowledge is more then enough to know about car movements, suspension work, inertia and so on. I don’t doubt that it feels great to some people behind wheel or pad if they say so.

      • Anonymous

I just have to remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

      • Eric Zehnder

Ignorance once again, Kendra. Judging based on a simple video of a car JUST released with first pass physics?

        Please, just stop.

  • http://www.facebook.com/weyland.yutani.52687 Weyland Yutani

Capri doesn’t feel too bad but I still prefer the DRM rFactor version. FFB is really hit and miss, some feel ok others feel terrible, none feel totally convincing but I hope it gets there.

    • Anonymous

Nothing surprsing, most good rf1 mods made for realfeel have better FFB than ANY pCars car imo.

  • Alejandro Gorgal

Funding is officially closed now, you can still upgrade to Full Member if you are a Team or Junior Member, but no new accounts are being accepted now.
Crazy how they reached this point and there’s still a full year of development to go!

I was sure multiplayer will give it a big hit on the accounts. And I was right :)

It’s insane though, a few hours ago I posted that there was 50k to go, right now it’s only 500 :O

      • Big Ron

I bet it´s not really the multiplayer, but mostly the new tire model which gave a good thrust.

I have one humble hope for CARS (and by now everyone knows what it is): I am looking forward to the day when they implement warp free, three screen support.

    • http://twitter.com/kjc24 Ken Coughlin

Crucial. I won’t buy it if it has warped side screens.

    • Big Ron

Will be implemented when it on top of the list. Is already confirmed.

I have to say I tried the SETA tire model for the first time today. I must say, as before I was REALLY disappointed in the handling now the cars seem more alive down the back, which is my thing! One thing, just one is wrong with it right now, and that’s the force feedback, give us some rumble strip feel, some indication of loosing the rear so we can catch it ( I can catch most slides in rF1 and rF2 but nearly none here ). Though I must say this is a massive step forward physicswise and as before I’ve written this game off I’ll reconsider upgrading at some stage if it still be availble, and definitely will think of buying the full game in a year’s time :)

    • Anonymous

Actually not even I reconsider but upgraded to a Team Memeber. It’s slowing down my GT3RS slightly but oh well :)

    • Big Ron

FFB will come back at it´s full strenght when the SETA model is better developed. They deactivated mosts effects except the tyre forces to give and take better ideas of what the tires are doing and in which direction it goes. If it is sorted, they will adapt everything up to what it was before.

      • Anonymous

Thank you for the answer, I didn’t know anything about that, and I just wrote what I felt it’s wrong :)

  • Jed

Heehehehe I am laughing here, why? Cos I got in at the start of the builds and after a year I’m starting to see how great this game is gonna be. Those who are members will know what I mean and those haters who will ALWAYS be haters will not know until the game comes out and then they go out an buy it, and mark my words, buy it they will! I race RF2 and have a sub at iRacing too but what do I fire up when I want to have a great sim race on MP? pCARS. In the words of Yoda ” See you will”

  • Mark Silcock

Just so you know what the current level of development the Capri has had physics wise here are the export comments….. CL257311 – Initial pass at physics for the Capri is in. It’s a wobbly old beast with all that power and live axle rear end. Just enough downforce to keep it stable and super wide tires. Performance appears to be in the right ballpark, comparing to old DRM results. Lots of turbo lag from the tiny 1.4L Cosworth BDA; keep those things spooled up or you’re a sitting duck.
