Project CARS – Build 387 Available

Slightly Mad Studios have released a major new build of their WMD-powered Project CARS title.

Aside of the usual never-ending stream of under the hood fixes and improvements, the new build introduces two brand new cars to all members with Team Member level and above.

Build 387 marks introduction of the 1991 BMW M3 E30 Group A touring car and the 2012 BMW M3 GT2, giving players access to two very different generations of BMWs legendary M3.

The two new BMWs are part of Project CARS’ ten-car BMW license, with six more Bavarian race cars still to join Project CARS.

As always with new car additions to pCARS, the new cars miss several important features, being early exports to the pre-Alpha title.

Build 387 (18/1/13, Team Member+)
Bug Fixes:
* Fix for an alt tab crash. The crash was caused by not updating the emap rendertargets

* Slick_white tread modified. New drag figures for Racer L4. Setup tweaks and suspension fix for BMW M3 E30

      I would like them more if the “trailers” actually lasts as long as a trailer and isn’t a montage with boring and random panning shots. Tell a story with the videos please!

        I am also not the biggest fan of the amount of trailers. They all show the same and there are at least 5 trailers for one time line of the game before new content appears and the same begins again.

        I could be wrong but.. SMS hasn’t released a single trailer for this game yet. These are all fan-made trailers, as such they will be of varying quality and randomness.

        Also, according to the “community”, barely anything in the game is finished, so it isn’t really advertising anything worthwhile for me, it’s just a bunch of pretty videos of potential.

        Of course they didn´t release trailers by themself. But like the weekly screenshot galery “officiating” as official pCARS-sceenshots, SMS could do a monthly trailer show or so where best trailer are chosen (or doing it when it´s time for it). I mean, a trailer is a trailer, something that should show the best sides at a specific level. Several trailer showing the same sides of the same development progress feels a bit strange though.

        Keep in mind how often you see trailers for other games….maybe two or three times till release.

        I would prefer if people would care more about making videos of serious driving from which the game would benefit more, IMO.

        The music clips, or photo clips are anti-narrative, they dont follow the structure of the classic novel from 19th century (introduction, development and conclusion) are a montage based on a concept, they dont necesary must have a dramatic need, a “story”.

        A game trailer should be like a horror movie trailer. Obviously replace the gore and killing and babies heads being chopped off with an “epic 5 car wide battle down the main straight and then double file into the monza chicane”. You need to be dramatic to sell something!

Lot’s of Need for speed fans are gonna go crazy for this. Hey the more units sold, the fanboys who invested in this will make their investment back at least. maybe.

        Is it gonna be on Wii U? yes it is. No sim here friend. Try iRacing, rFactor, and even Simbins real sim in GTR2, and you’ll find no sim here. FACT. A multiplatform title to have nothing in common with PC only sims. A title the same across all platforms is a fact. Multiplat equals 1080p on pc’s and that it. So go ahead an BAH all you want.         Man, that´s completely nonsense. How much do we bet that Assetto Corsa, GTR 2 or iRacing would run on a console? I mean, pCARS has the biggest hardware requirements of all those sims and can be ported to console with visual compromises, but nearly no concessions of the core game, why shouldn´t it be possible with the others? It´s mostly just a developer decision not to do it (maybe because financial ressources are not given, the audience is too small or there isn´t enough ability by the developers to handle consoles), but definitely not a fact that it isn´t possible.

        The notion that because pCARS will also be built for Wii U, it can’t be a sim is wrong. Like Big Ron says, there are absolutely no technical reasons for that.

        BTW, I have tried all the sims you mention (as well as a lot of cars in real life, although no racing cars), and I can tell that even at this stage that pCARS is a full-on sim – not a finished and polished one yet, mind you, but there’s nothing “arcade” at all about this project. Arcade is a completely different genre.

        I find it strange the way you continue to post utterly negatively about pCARS, then claim to be a supporter. I guess a development project isn’t really served well by “supporters” that mainly claim that it is no good and never can be…

        Oh well, maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the sim in the the end :-)

If you see a game that will lead to the same ol rinse and repeat time and time again, as a paying customer and a person that has a say, or should have a say in the project, you speak up, or else then the developer will continue to think that mediocrasity is fine. You got to keep the developers informed and on their toes to produce better and better cause people that don’t give critism and negative thoughts are allowing the developers to continually take our money and give us mediocracity.         I have been voicing my opinions and being shot down by a community thay wants glued to the track cars I have been doing this for a month. I give up. When finally the M3 E30 is introduced into the game and had some character the physics lead turns around and says it needs more grip. I think I truely get it now and the direction of the title. If the majority wants this there is nothing I can do I did not have enough support on my side so plainly I just give up. I have tons of other things on my plate than to continue my arguements with what I consider a bunch of decent people who just want something different than me. So I leave them in peace I am not gonna continue to heckel them to death here. I think they deserve better than that.
        I respect the fact your trying to voice your opinions but I think your doing it in the wrong way

        I understand and I know that in the PCars community any negative backlash is ignored and spat upon. Your friend Big Ron I know who he is and I’ve seen the continual arguing and arguing he’s conjured upon people time and time again not just here. He’s not a big fan of many real individuals, and if he never invested the amount he did invest into Pcars, i’m sure he wouldn’t be talking like he does, nor do I think the big dogs at SMS would pay him any mind.         That was not what happened, and I’m not going to let you score free points based on twisting things. Birddog made a suggestion that was thoroughly discussed. The suggestion was of a nature that was opposed on logical grounds, and better solutions that would IMO achieve his goal were presented (no disrespect to Birddog, just so that is said, he’s a great guy). Nobody was “ignored and spat on”, as you say.

      Someone should tell the people that this community-funded game needs less people in the community having fun in this game and posting videos. Someone should tell them to be like Assetto Corsa and release screenshots at a trickle or just completely leave us in the dark for months at a time.

      Its got at least 4 (5 if you include the ring) – 2 of which are 10km+ and reversible, the third is the mountain range and theres the Solitude Rennstreke. Theres also a good amount of smaller circuits.

        I’m agree this trailer of the M3 E30 on this long track doesn’t make a whish but I drive it since friday and I can tell you it’s more than drivable and fun to :) it’s very stiff with default setup, weight balance at braking is so reallistic.

        There are different developpement phase for each car/track, those 2 are new one, that’s why we talk about it. But there are 3 patch released each week, each time, new add, content, export, liveries… I only paid 25€ it’s chrismas each week for me… even if I’m also waiting for assetto corsa (few videos, no demo, no beta no nothing, we are just waiting… with PCARS you see and test each advancement of the game, the work the achieve each day is amazing, really…

        And the most important for me is the direction they whant the game to go : pure simulation ! you can see it in all the development threads.

      there is also a long test track with different configuration called “hill-climb” ;)
      Trust me I played Rfactor 2, LFS, NPKarPro, GPL, GTR1&2, Iracing….
      And YES ! PCARS IS and WILL be a great simulator. With betifull graphic (hoooo sorry for that).

        Physics, tires FFB and FFB are regularly updated, members can follow the development via the web site.
        Recetly, there were updates on certains tires.
        For the FFB, I personnaly have a G25 wheels. With the good settings (don’t forget tires force config), it’s great :)

    Have the SRT guys had a go at this simcade since saying way back that SMS need to be ashamed of themselves for the joke of a racer in Test Drive Ferrari? Darin said he was gonna think about doing a PCars segment eventually as the builds and title got to the halfway mark. Well it’s way past that.

      Halfway is meaningless. You can’t even define halfway mark. Its a pointless thing to say. Who’s to say what will be concentrated on? I agree the handling needs to be a priority if your going to put it up against other sim demos, but the baseline physics still arn’t ready yet. They may decide to concentrate on the physics more towards the end….or they may not. A already said they’ll be developing these cars until right up to the end but if your core physics arn’t done then it doesn’t matter. They could do something that will knock the handling out from all the cars a two months from release and get it all back again handling really well on the day. Same with the sounds…it doesn’t really matter as long as its good on release.

        They are more then halfway, and I see very little improvements from last Oct when it made it a full year. Many cars still lose their rendering when driving away when the glass on the windows goes grayed out. So much to finish. Many tracks are still in WIP. A rushed dash it will be. I just hope they cancel their delivery time if they need the time to finish it half decent. Graphics are so grainy. I have the rig with a GTX 690 in it to run almost everything maxed at 2560 x 1440, and the graphics are foggy. The community pics are clean cause the frame is still. In motion and incockpit view, the graphics are not clean.

    I understand that is probably placeholders on the physics side (is it?), but seeing that NFS Shift ‘floaty feel’ on the E30 video gives me the creeps. Hope the car on its final state gets truly accurate to its real counterpart

      Correct, the E30 is only a first export (along with the E92), so the physics are just ballpark figures, the car is untextured, has no liveries, and so on.

      What has less grip to do with Shift 2´s floaty feeling. The BMW doesn´t feel anything like a car in Shift.

      I can drive the car all out with 2 fingers and a thumb. easy as driving a beetle at 30mph. Lifeless ffb. barely a correction. Yet the newer BMW GT2 drives with less traction and feels like you got no rear wing. SMS is just all over the place with them cars. Graphics are fuzzy, not clear. Not impressed

        I also prefer rF2 graphics on recent tracks and with their recent engine tweaks. Seems like they found a right art guy or something. It turns things other way around and suddenly it started to look better than pcars.
        Better lighting, better car-paint shader, more detailed environment.
        Also never liked those weird floating clouds in pcars. They are only looking realistic while they are dark at sunset.

      Damm these people are frustrating…. for the 1.025.200 times, this won’t be shift 3, so, stop judging something that you don’t even know or played yet. If guys like Nicolas Hamilton or Ben Collins tells me that this car behave as it should, and regarding their AWESOME participation to the SMS forum, I will believe them more than some bunch of hardcore simmers who never put their feet in a real racing car! Stop the easy judgement or at least wait that this game is released before to spit your venom/ lies on it!

      I agree, the graphics feel ‘fuzzy’ to me and really lack the crystal clear polish and clarity of rfactor and even F1 2012. The shadows in particular seem very odd, like the whole thing apart from the cars needs a Full HD makeover.
