Project CARS – Build 159 + Patch 160 Available

Slightly Mad Studios have released a new weekly build of their WMD-powered Project CARS  title, giving all members with Team Member level and above their weekly dose of change & improvements.

The new build brings plenty of physics improvements, improved support for Fanatec wheels, new versions of several cars & tracks and more. Furthermore, a Build 160 patch is available, addressing a bunch of issues and including a new version of the Circuit de la Sarthe.

Build 160 (24/2/12, Team Member +)

  • FFB:
  • - Added the notion of ‘fade level’ to BForceEffect, used as a secondary gain control
  • - Added the notion of ‘boost’ to AppInput::cForce. Used to promote one particular force above the others (0 = no boost – no change, 1 = max boost – completely silences all other forces).
  • - cForceSteeringSpring modified to include a ‘lock’ mode where the effect params are switched to emulate a bump-stop when the wheel lock has been exceeded.
  • - Removed cForceSteeringLock.
  • Disabled legacy deadzone helpers.
  • Removed ultra shadow option, until it can be properly debugged and reinstated taking into account the shadow changes
  • New Loire export

Build 159 (24/2/12, Team Member +)
MUST START A NEW PROFILE WITH THIS BUILD

Apologies – it appears the ultra shadow option is broken with this build, please use high instead

  • Severity of vehicle crash damage state is not decreased when vehicle collides with heavy dynamic object
  • Tweaked Logitech FFB kerb settings
  • Limit fallback AIs to race liveries
  • Increase freecam speed to compensate for changes to time steps – now correctly matches whether paused or not, and feels more appropriate for fast and slow modes
  • Disabled other uses of key combinations required by freecam when in freecam mode, to prevent accidental debug information etc
  • Changed shake effect code to properly reflect requested frequency, by not resetting to a movement endpoint on whole tick boundaries
  • Pre heat brakes to optimal values based on vehicle
  • Added PC support for Fanatec CSR, CSRE, CSW wheels using 911 as template – no per device button config applied as yet
  • Added undertray scrape audio volume
  • Ensure newer Fanatec controllers cannot match to older Turbo S wheel
  • Add profile option to toggle HUD map on/off
  • Completed last few remaining free-camera isses which were effected by pausing and unpausing the game.
  • Changed call to camera callback when paused to use core tick rate (180Hz) instead of sub tick rate (30Hz) as basis for the timer value, this fixes the camera speed changing when paused
  • Added custom Depth of Field mode
  • Enable camera editing when paused
  • Reduced effect of wheel to wheel collisions (and chance of them happening to the player)
  • Formula A, Formula B, TDX, Racer4x, Racerv8, Gumpert Appollo, Asano X4, F68, F77, F86, Kart, and Super Kart: Physics updates
  • Fixed trees cutting through wall at Bologna
  • Gumpert: excluded paint colours from AI races
  • Added fresnel/specular maps for all custom liveries
  • Vehicle client versions incremented in advance of Aries server-side leaderboard reset (physics/tyre changes)
  • Leonus F68: added metallic liveries + fresnel
  • Show Map on HUD added
  • Louder Caterham AI sounds
  • New Bathurst, Bologna, and Loire exports

The new build is available for download on the WMD Downloads Page, new members can register here.

Awh jeez do you work for SMS or something? Wasn’t it SimBin that hired you?

    • Anonymous

Whats the matter with you now ?!

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Nothing new here, just the usual T-work…

    • http://www.facebook.com/jcruze88 Justin ForzaBarça Cruze

Have something against SMS do you?
I like seeing pCARS news here and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

      • Anonymous

I like the idea that he thinks you have to work for a company to have their news posted here :)
pCARS weekly builds would have posted here regardless.   Its sim news !

      • Anonymous

Are other sim racing sites posting every weekly build note?

Why hasn’t there been any news about the upcoming iRacing Skip Barber Premier series with the prize of a 3 day race school? Or the return of the Grand Am Premier series? The iRacing Daytona 500, 2.4h of Daytona, or Roar before the 2.4? Or the 3 bugfix builds this season? Isn’t that sim news too?

The appearance of a conflict of interest is often as bad as an actual one.

  • Luke Russell

Totally blown away by those Formula A car pictures; They look so real! iRacing needs to take note!

  • unrealnoise

I tried both of them and never felt i wanna play pCars again. It’s just slightly modified Shift, which is arcade whatever it meant to be. rFactor 2 is one of the best sims on the market today.

    • Big Ron

Too bad you didn´t try the new build and patch. Shift is history. They updated the physics and tyre model at a first stage and now it´s on a completely new level and can compete with other sims.

    • Ricoo

Shift2 was not so arcade, poor set-ups for some cars but not arcade. Some legend cars were even great.

Project CARS has new physics, is still in early development, and has already great cars as the Caterham R500.

Setting FFB right can be difficult but once done, some cars are very nice to drive.

    • Anonymous

Yawn! Another big-up for rF2 on a pCARS thread.  Thats new.   Congrats on being the first one to do it in this particular thread.
Now that you won’t be playing again, maybe someone else will make the exact same comparison first in the next build announcement.

When you said slightly modified Shift, I had to laugh. That was funny.

      • Anonymous

So true. The moment the comparison with SHIFT was stated was the moment it was clear it was trolling to satisfy his 3 mates who ” liked ” it. pCARS is so far from SHIFT it’s clear this guy has not even raced it. This new build has put it up there with the best of them IMO and still around a year to go. I wonder how many of these names will soon be praising this game

      • Anonymous

I havent tried the new 159/160 build yet but knowing from first hand experience how quick these guys work at getting things done and bugs squashed, Im dying to give it a go.
Admittedly a little nervous after seeing the changelog with the word Fanatec appearing a good few times :)
I hope it’s as good as or better even than 154 for my wheel.

I remember how Shift 2 was just over 6 months from release and it changed so so much in that time.
With around 12 months on this, at that same rate (albeit without the need to satisfy a publishers ideas of what a racing game should be), the potential in pCARS is tremendous.  I’m glad I’m one of those along for the ride (no pun intended).
As a member you can participate and give out ideas, bug reports and say what you don’t like as the game develops.  So you get to be a  voice in the room.
Yet there are STILL some who prefer to just sit back, contribute zero and slag it off for whatever reason.
IMO they are being part of the problem instead of part of the solution.   Get involved instead of whinging.  Don’t not contribute when you had the chance to and then moan about how it turned out in the end.

      • Anonymous

Yeah totally agree. I really don’t get the hostility towards SMS on here and various other forums at the moment. It’s rather childish really the way they just appear with nothing better to do than troll. Something tells me that if their honest they are worried that pCARS come 12 months time is gonna blow everything before away. It happens in all walks of life, people feel threatened and so do silly stuff. The majority of it is just fanboyisim and it’s crept in alot round here lately.

This latest build has totally changed the sim IMO, it’s now on a completely different level. I personally think all these jibes are from people that brought in early and as you said were not prepared for the long haul and so have based their opinions on the first experience. What people forget though is we have never been this close to the development of game so early on. If you were to try GTR3 and Assetto for instance a year before release you would experience exactly the same bugs/issues you do with pCARS, Look at rF2 as a prime example, how long has it been in development? 2 maybe 3 years, i forget now but it’s in beta and released with copious amounts of bugs, latest patch has addressed alot of that for the better but still you get the point.

I think it’s a shame there are so many people that just seem to have a hatred for SMS and pCARS and feel they have to make themselves feel better by posting in every thread.

      • Anonymous

Yeah a lot of it is down to ignorance (and I don’t mean that in a bad way) of how game development works.    You kinda know that it has to to built up to a final product but until you see hands-on, you really have no idea.   You can’t program a game without loads of bugs.  No game ever has devloped like that.
I’ve seen it first hand and it’s manic. Bug squashing every single day, in parallel with the new content going in (so new bugs introduced with that), enhancements to whats there etc. etc.
I dont envy the devs.  On top of that they now have a tonne of voices to listen out for. :)
But somehow with each build its very satisfying to see it grow up into a final product.

Look at the changelogs for pCARS too. Very similar to the internal daily builds of Shift 2.  Some of the fixes and changes need translating into laymans English.
“Shadow updates: Back to 4 frustums.”    wth is a frustum ?   Something else I`ll have to Google now. :)

This is an amazing way, from our point of view, to produce a sim (or any game).  All open with members all able to contribute a voice to shape the development.  Isn’t that what we’ve always wanted ?   To influence, at least on some level, the final product instead of moaning about how a final release, that you had no say in, has turned out.   I say get stuck in and be a hand shaping the clay. (not a euphemism)

      • Anonymous

I clickt the like button because your funny.
You’re a mod from a racing news platform that is on the paylist from SMS.

      • Anonymous

You should spend less time trolling and more getting your facts straight, seriously…

      • Anonymous

So what’s your point ? You think I’m sticking up for SMS because Montoya works there as opposed to me just being fed-up of the same rFactor 2 comparisons and Shift/arcade comment in every pCARS thread ?

Sorry to dissapoint but I don’t work that way mate.  This thread is simply to notify people of the new weekly build.  I expect there will be another one next week and the week after that.  I also expect an rF2 comparison and the mention of arcade and Shift too.  Same old Same old.

As for me I’ve not been able to get into and drive pCARs properly until build 154 came out and I made no secret of that. It was annoying, but I knew they’d sort it eventually because I know how the development process works.  But I still had a bit of a moan about it.  If I had an undying loyalty to SMS, I`d have kept my mouth shut.

I clicked the like button because your spelling and grammar is funny. :)

SMS, you owe me another $50 for this post.  Thanks.

      • Anonymous

        why did you laugh?
….is it not based on the shift engine?

  • Patrick Niculescu

Once you setup your wheel properly nothing comes close to the physics, even the devs of simbin have stated their physics are flawed.

    • http://openid.wp.pl/knifesedge Knifesedge

Is going sideways with RWD cars without countersteering still the fastest way through corners?

      • Big Ron

Nope, now you need to have a clean line for fastest laps. Going sideways too agressively will spin your car. Also no more Shift-swaying style visible.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

Slightly drifts are the fastest way to drive race cars. Says The Stig.

      • Anonymous

Nope. Some people are working on the tyre model at the moment, some pretty big changes to it in this build and more coming up.

  • Anonymous

Are any of these F1 skins (and all the others) we see in the community previews actually available anywhere?

I’ve looked and Googled but can find absolutely nothing.

    • Big Ron

you need to be registered to have access to the forum and in the vehicle-section, there is a sub-forum, where you can download the skins.

      • Anonymous

Thanks for the tip BR.  Gonna grab me some skins.

Keep the comments both negative and positive coming guys.
I’ve noticed that Pcars news stories are becoming some of the most commented on this year.
Any reasonable person would look at the comments and maybe say to themselves “wow, this pcars thingy certainly gets folks heated up, think i’m gonna try it for myself and see what all the hype is”

    Cheers, all of you :p

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZQ3DPV4WCFUTWZLV3YCGP7AQDI NateDawg

this thing is really making leaps and bounds. I’m really blown away by this build. They have finally made it driveable with my gt3 rs and I’m finding myself spending more time on track with it. It feels awesome ripping around the track from inside these highly detailed cockpits. I find myself looking around it and going off track a lot lol. My main complaint would be the accuracy of the tracks. SIlverstone just doesnt feel like silverstone to me and i find myself forgetting that i’m even on silverstone. For the progress made in 4 months though, it’s going to be a very good racing sim, even for the hardcore guys. It’s really capturing the visceral feel of being in a race car and I cant wait to see where this beast goes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

What settings have you used for your GT3RS ? On the wheel and in game ?
Did you change car setups too ?
I tried briefly, and indeed, FFB now doesn’t feel like a G27 but like proper FFB, but the settings are all around, I had to disable center spring on the wheel SPr @ -3, never had to do that in any game, but that’s a good thing, it means it responds very well to Fanatec on wheel menu !
Though without any other change, the cars would start wobbling like mad on straight lines. Maybe I have to put the deadzone at -3 too ? Definitely more investigating needed.

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Ok now they definitely are onto something big, force feedback on Fanatec wheels has never been as good ! Still needs work of course, but then, we’re still in pre-alpha :D

Only things I had to make sure of, is to :
        - disable center spring on the wheel, (SPr => -3)
        - set rotation to 400 on the wheel, (Sen => 400)
        - recalibrate the wheel in game,
        - and boost the force feedback to 100 in game.

    • steve farrell

I dont get why those pipes and LCD display are floating about as if they are held on to the car by springs. In other videos I see switches floating up and down unrealistically too.

I dont have P Cars yet because I am buying a Fanatec CSR first on thursday week> The week after I am going to buy PCars and rFactor 2.

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Seems realistic to me… DTM cars are not like normal cars, it’s a racing car with just an Audi cover on top, inside it has nothing to do with the commercial equivalent in the brand.

      • steve farrell

Thats far from realistic. Those pipes shouldn’t be flopping about like that and the LCD should be moving with the body of the car not independant of itself. Heres another video which shows theswitches flopping up and down unrealistically.https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ovE4QFW9ZSE

      • Eric Zehnder

I think Steve is correct on this. They should react to bumps but currently they sort of generically flop around. I first really noticed this in the Audi R18 at Le Sarthe. I’m sure that’ll be part of the finishing/QA of the cars.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000119964258 Tomas Beha

Even the knobs on the button-box is flopping about – looks just odd. I like the immersive potential of this feature though, it seems overdone.

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

        Point taken :D

And thanks for the real DTM video, very informative !

  • http://www.facebook.com/gulyopapa Gulyás Tamás

My concern was – among other things – sense of speed !
    Especially above 100 km/h … I don’t feel acceleration.
How do you feel guys ? :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

       Try the second gear

    • Joeri Blootacker

      Hey,

i’m a pCars fan. and unlike in all the other cars in the sim, i have this feeling in the Formula A.
no idea why to be honest. i really enjoy all cars, but in the Formula A i also have a lack of sense of speed. really strange.
however, this might be a dev issue, and i’m sure it will be adressed if necessary. the folks over at WMD or doing good work.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DUHUDI42KUEEZCC4O7VEZNNXXU Allister

      Increase the field of view.

      • Anonymous

Don’t you usually want to reduce the field of view for better sense of speed?

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I’m not sure, in FPS, bigger field of view, to the extreme (> 120) gives a fish eye effect, and everything seems MUCH faster. I know that I like a high fov in Quake (110-120) but a lower fov (50 or lower) in racing games, at least in cockpit view.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, I suppose the fish eye would exaggerate the sense of speed. I wouldn’t think it a good compromise, though. It kills your ability to judge apexes.

I have found lower open wheel cars tend to have better sensations of speed than taller tin tops, similar to how high your street car is.

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

It’s definitely not a good compromise to get a higher fov in a racing game.

Indeed getting a lower position does increase the sense of speed, just like when you chose the bumper cam…

Anyways, the initial post was just from a notorious troll, so unless we’re trying to reach the Godwin’s law, this is pointless.

      • http://www.facebook.com/gulyopapa Gulyás Tamás

I’m not troll, you IDIOT !
I play the game from the beginning …
That was just an opinion !

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Insulting me just proves my point.

Maybe this was a constructive criticism, for one, but coming from someone who can only whine and complain all the time, that’s quite a stretch, and I’m soooo tired of your negativity, Gulyas !!!

You really should change attitude (or quit posting) as you’re making a fool of yourself 99% of the time. Grow up.

      • Anonymous

i completely don’t believe he was being a troll at all, i think he was simply stating that he felt the game was lacking in sense of speed, thats fair enough, its his opinion and it was a constructive question, theres no need to make out he is a bad guy just because he disagrees with you..

  • General Rush Hour

Soon time to quit VirtualR it seems…

Editing posts that don´t need editing other then protecting a company is not what a news site with free speech is about.

    • Ricoo

The General run away the battlefield… what a shame lol

      • General Rush Hour

Not much of a battlefield to begin with.

But i thought news sites, that present news would not be biased in any way or try to hide anything from us, the customers.

It seems VirtualR now works in a different way when PCARS now have control over a news-site.
You will never be able to take any PCARS article seriously as you know they have/will fiddle with information to look good.

      • Anonymous

You make all kinds of accusations, please provide some facts.

How has the article been “fiddled with” to make it look good? It’s all based on information freely available in the WMD forum for everybody see.

      • Russell Roden

Having a pic of a licensed F1 car as the headline graphic makes me think “Oh they got an F1 license!”. I should know what misleading is from being a graphic designer who has worked in advertising for over a decade. Now… it’s not “false advertising” since they don’t explicitly state they have an F1 but it’s definitely misleading to show that picture in that particular way.

      • http://www.facebook.com/kris.baxter2 Kris Baxter

Never even crossed my mind, I know that the pictures on here are often community gallery, and I didn’t see the F1 skins on the WMD site either, so I wouldn’t think it was misleading at all.

Or does rF1 have F1 licences for nearly every year since 1991?

      • General Rush Hour

I posted a quote here, from PCARS.

That was edited out for no reason, it´s PCARS own text…

Now if you do that but let off-topic discussions go on, it tells another story then the “official” one.

We actually used to get on Hampus back in the RD iRacing days, don’t know what has happened to you, you seem to have a real chip on your shoulder with pCARS. Pathetic

      • Anonymous

You aren’t saying General = Hampus, are you?

        They are eerily similar…

      • Anonymous

Yeah i used to race with him in iRacing so know for sure it’s him

      • Anonymous

Well, that makes sense. Same inability to let something go. Same tendency to escalate a civil conversation. Same rampant anti-Americanism, unless it’s a Corvette. Dunno why I hadn’t noticed before!

He’s still banned from the iRacing forums. I want to like the guy, but man does he just fail completely at civil conversation.

      • General Rush Hour

        Yes i´m anti-american in a few ways.

Rednecks – taken over General Chat in iRacing forums. And generally the whole forums.
Everyone with the IQ of a rock.

Government –  invades countries like it´s nothing while the people stand by and watch holding their in-bred mindset that America is the greatest.

I don´t have a problem with American cars, i have a problem with iRacing having 600 american V8´s and now introducing another american V8 because they and Cadillac will make money of it not because the subscribers asked for it.

You know by know i don´t care if you hate me or love me, i´m going to let you know how i feel right away.

I´ve had plenty of civil conversations with people, if you watched the forums you will see that some people actually was glad to see me back.

So either i´m allergic to trolls and dumb idiots or i´ve paid the guys at iR forums to say that..

        You decide.

      • Anonymous

I was glad to have you back, but you were already back to your inflammatory ways. Didn’t surprise me in the least you got banned again.

But thanks again for the laughs. You’re like the Charlie Sheen of sim racing :)

      • General Rush Hour

Last time i got banned for being RIGHT.

Corvette is a mid-engined car. For that i was banned.

Sounds intresting, never heard of a mid-engined Corvette.
        Any links?

      • General Rush Hour

Corvette´s technically are mid-engined. Front-mid-engined to be exact.

No links needed, all of them are mid-engined.

      • General Rush Hour

I never had a problem with PCARS, i thought it was a great company.

but now i see things from the proper perspective and the company is run in a very different manner then what is being painted up by VirtualR and partly you in fact.

      • Anonymous

Haha, Really ?  Then get your pCARS info from another website. You`ll find it pretty much the same.
Also the weekly betas, you know them things that members can download weekly and see exactly for themselves whats going on, they will tell the full story.  Theres really nothing to hide.

      • General Rush Hour

No the builds won´t tell the full story…

I told part of the story, it got removed by you. Despite it being scentences written by PCARS and not me.

There is plenty to hide, that is the main reason why you edited out my post….

       Free speech is a myth.

      • Anonymous

On a privately owned website, it certainly is.

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Oh, and which website isn’t privately owned and has free speech ? Enlighten me. This is gonna be goooood.

Also, I believe F1Racer was making irony. Else he’d have written at least a paragraph to explain his thoughts ;)

      • Anonymous

I was agreeing, not disagreeing. Freedom of speech only applies to the government not limiting speech, private parties (like Virtualr) can limit speech however they like.

      • Anonymous

I wasn’t trying to be ironic.  I was stating what I believe to be a fact.
If you are in America (the supposed land of the free) you can test out how much freedom of speech you have by walking up to a policeman and telling him, as a joke, that you’re going to kill the President.
I may be wrong but I believe it is actually a federal crime to do that.  Either way, you’re not walking away laughing.

This whole ‘free’ thing is overrated.  You are not free.  You have to work, you have to pay taxes and you have to understand the difference between what your mouth can come out with and what is and isn’t appropriate or acceptable in certain environments.

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

But that’s because we don’t live in democracies, never had.

      • General Rush Hour

America maybe not. But Nordic countries and countries close by really do live by democracy.

What America lives by is nothing different then Saddam Hussein. It´s exactly the same. But with technology.

      • Anonymous

Saddam isn’t living by anything these days.  But that’s hardly an accurate statement no matter what how much you dislike America.

      • General Rush Hour

Actually it is so accurate that it´s scary.

US Soldiers killed more people in Iraq then the amount Saddam killed during his period.
US invades other countries based on lies
US stays in other countries for no apparent reason
US fights an imaginary war with no real enemy which means it can go on forever as there will be no winner or loser.

It is exactly like Iraq. Maybe you don´t hear that on the news but do some research and you will see the similarities are striking.

Wild guess nr1: USA will invade Iran in the coming 4-5 months, this will start a massive war.
        WWIII is my guess.

      • Anonymous

How the hell did we go from pCARS being shit to WWIII?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HEJQFMZIIWS55MFDYTKUR2F5KI Firefox

        Probably the best post today.
There are other sites for those kinds of discussions.

      • Anonymous

        Say what?

Highest estimate of direct casualties of the Iraq war is 162,000 civilians and combatants according to Iraq Body Count. These are a result of both coalition and insurgent actions.

Saddam Hussein ethnically cleansed 180,000+ civilians between 1986 and 1989.

If you’re going to go all ‘death to America’, at least get your facts straight.

      • General Rush Hour

The numbers are not the correct ones. For the correct ones go to Wikileaks.

        The “real” death numbers…

      • Anonymous

You realize the WL value is lower, only 109,000 with just 66,100 of those being civilians. That has Saddam even farther ahead in the numbers, 3:1 and all of those intentional.

So tell me again, Mr. Hampus, how do you figure US soldiers killed more people than Saddam?

      • Anonymous

Seems you scare easy.  US won’t be invading Iran in 4-5 months.   Especially not with an election on the way and the economy the way it is. They’ll likely leave it to Israel to do that.

Anyway, I’m not discussing politics here.  This is a sim-racing thread so lets try and stay somewhere in that area can we ?

      • General Rush Hour

Oh you can be sure they will. USA´s right hand Israel has already started killing off scientists that work specifically on the nuclear development.

USA is as we speak building bombs specifically designed to take out Nuclear facilities under ground.

USA will invade Iran very soon.

      • General Rush Hour

Saying you are gonna kill the president is not considered free speach.

That is a threat just as if you would have walked up to him and said ÿou would kill the guy over the street.

Same deal you never say the word Bomb in an airport. It´s not about free speech it´s about COMMON SENSE.

      • Anonymous

So you’ve made my point for me.  You either have free speech or you don’t.  How can you claim to have it and then say that certain words and phrases and not considered free speech?
Who isn’t considering them free speech btw ?
It goes to show that in certain places there are certain things are not appropriate to say.
Common sense is all we ask in here too.

      • General Rush Hour

Umm no. You are talking about something that has nothing to do with free speech.

      • Anonymous

Am I ?  My point is simply that you cannot say what you like, when you like and where you like.  In my opinion the term ‘free speech’ is flawed by its very nature.

      • General Rush Hour

Sure you can. But if you say certain stuff it will go over to breaking a law.

You are still free to say what the hell you want. But you should think about what you say because some of it will bring consequences.

So free speech is very much in effect at all times. It´s common sense that´s not.

      • Anonymous

I couldn’t agree more.  You can say what you like, but people act as if they can do that AND get away with it.  That’s the difference.

        This debate is over.

      • General Rush Hour

The post was edited because it showed PCARS in a different light then what is being presented officially.

      • Anonymous

So you can understand why it got edited then.  Montoya’s site and he works for SMS.  I’m sure you can do the math.  In case you can’t, it would be uncomfortable to work for a company and you let people slag it off on your own website.   You get that right ?   You’re rights are not being violated here.  I`d do the exact same thing in his position.  Damn right.

      • General Rush Hour

So you are saying that Montoya will edit posts that shows the truth rather then the sneaky non-truth?

      • Anonymous

Easy, “your right to swing your arms ends where my nose begins”. We aren’t talking about an anarchy here. Sometimes I feel like people who make arguments like yours are intentionally being dense for the sake of argument or to feel like a rebel.

You have got to be the most ‘unique’ moderator I’ve ever known.

      • Anonymous

Always bringing up the moderator thing eh ?  Like I’m not entitled to an opinion.  Well thats free speech for ya !

      • Anonymous

No need for a Napoleon complex, I just said I thought you were crazy, not that you don’t have the right to be like I have the right to call you out on it.

I’m just saying, haven’t seen many mods who have such crackpot (IMO) views. Most moderators are, eponymously, moderate.

Clearly you aren’t abusing your power, you aren’t heavy handed or using the ban hammer when you don’t need to. Nothing against your abilities as a mod, you’re just more strongly opinionated than I’ve ever seen any good mod be. You must be the exception.

      • Anonymous

You need to back off now mate.  That’s a nice good-hearted warning from me as a mod.
You’re getting personal and it’s not acceptable.

You can disagree with my views and tell me so.  You might even want to explain why or what specifically I said to make you disagree.  But I resent you calling me crazy, crackpot or anything like that.

One thing you need clarifying is that ‘moderator’ does not imply a person of moderate views.
I am strongly opinionated, that’s not news.  Anyone who knows me knows that.  Montoya knew that when he made me a moderator.   But I try my damnedest to stick to the guidelines of no personal insults or profanity etc.   And God knows I can go there.  You don’t want me back off my leash.
So if a strongly opinionated crackpot like me can stick to the rules, I’m not going to accept people doing it to me.  I will moderate any further comments like that, the same as I would for anyone.
If you don’t think I’m a good mod because I have opinions that happen to differ with yours maybe you should take it up with Montoya.

Lastly, you can stop making this about me or trying to influence my position as moderator.

This gets back on topic now.   This debate is over !

      • Anonymous

I apologize, I tried to make it clear I don’t think you’re a bad moderator. The fact you are able to disagree with someone without modding is proof you’re darn good.

I won’t bring it up again.

      • Anonymous

I did read it.   If you read the last sentence of my post above yours you’ll see that I even referred to it.
Maybe common sense is what got your precious post edited or deleted in the first place.

Also I can do without the sarcasm and the inference that I’m stupid.

Maybe time for you to drop this spitting of the dummy now don’t you think ? You had a post edited, its not the end of the world.

      • General Rush Hour

Maybe in the Police state called USA. In Europe it´s very much in effect, as it should.

      • Anonymous

Yes but the USA is where they claim to be freer that everywhere else in the world though.
Even the president is somewhat arrogantly called ‘Leader of the free world’ as opposed to ‘Leader of the free country’.

In Europe I think you’ll find freedom of speech is not absolute in any country.
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech_by_country

It’s a bit of a contradiction in terms when you put restrictions on something that claims to be free but there you go, that’s how it it.

      • Anonymous

Gotcha, it’s only freedom if it’s anarchy.

ACTA was here ? *joke guys!*

  • Anonymous

Yes it’s sim-news, great! Good game and all, but the principles are nowhere to be found. Also the fact that SMS use screens from the community showcasing real liveries(which looks stunning btw) made by members of said community because they doesn’t have the licenses cleared, is a bit cheesy in marketing terms.

The thought remains however, a owner of a news-site shouldn’t have his/her other hand up and down in the subject of what’s considered ‘news’.

    • Ricoo

Who cares using those shots, the licenses will come later and this is not official pictures from SMS. OMG we can guess the nose of a redbull on a fan picture, sure FIA will sue… :)

The owner of a site can do whatever he wants. And this is a blog about simracing news, not the Washington Post. :)

      • Anonymous

That said, for as much as people bitch about ISRTV doing nothing but iRacing news…

Is it really necessary to get weekly build notes?

      • Anonymous

Is it necessary to read and post in pCARS weekly build note threads if they quite obviously don’t interest you? Pretty simple solution, don’t click on them and read them. Different story i spose if it was a sim that suited you.

      • Anonymous

People do that in stories about all sims, it isn’t limited to pCARS.

Again, my question is why is it ok for people to come into every ISRTV article and whine about it being just iRacing, but not for someone to comment that Virtualr has become ‘nothing but’ pCARS news?

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

It’s not ok to come into every ISRTV article and whine about anything for starters…

And saying VirtualR is nothing but pCARS news is simply not true. Take a look at the front page and count the news…

Come on, man, you used to be constructive around here (even if completely biased towards iRacing), why the change of attitude towards trolling pCARS ?

Like Nismo said : you don’t like it ? Easy, don’t read it.

      • Anonymous

I agree, it’s not ok for people to come whine every time, nor are either site just about a certain sim. So let’s stop both.

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

The only thing YOU can do about it, is quit whining. The rest is not up to you, but the site owners, who naturally do as they please on THEIR website. If you don’t like the said website, you only choice of action is to leave.

Damn it, talk about being responsible…

      • Anonymous

So that means you should go and do the same in this or any other pCARS thread? How old are we, we are not at school anyway. That seems a pretty childish attitude to me. I don’t like alot of other stuff that is pn VirtualR. GTL and it’s mods do not interest me or does the latest show of ISR or iRacing, thing i do is not click on them and then i don’t have to read them. It’s pretty simple really.

      • Ricoo

It’s perhaps not the case for everyone but I like reading a summary of the changes for the new build. Watching new pictures and vids is nice to. And advertising is a good thing if it helps make this title a success, since It’s the first time the simracing community can take part in the funding and the design of a sim.

    • Big Ron

pCARS lives through its community so what isn´t better than using community´s work to show how the game develops? And to clarify for you, who obviously do not have any clue about the game and its development: those screens are no official SMS screens but shots from the community gallery and free to pick them up for other sites.

SMS will do official marketing when the right point is reached.

      Your statement is just useless.

Just for the record: I was extremely disappointed in Shift II. Every once in a while I would try it again but after a few laps I’d give up again.

pCARS certainly looks a lot like it. It has that “feel” to it, but the graphics on Shift II were never the issue for me. The driving was. pCARS started already better than Shift II. If SII drove like pCARS on  their first public release, I would be playing it today. But it didn’t.

Since then pCARS got a lot better. Sometimes they went backwards but soon they would correct it again.

Ultimately, I like pCARS. I am looking forward to play it online against other drivers but I will reserve my final assessment of it against any other Sim, past , present or future, once it’s finished. In the meantime I find it enjoyable to watch the progress.

not sure about everyone else. I am enjoying the new build..

    • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Good to hear, and agreed. Let’s not care about what everyone else thinks ;)

For me too, for the first time in pCARS, I enjoy toying with settings and different cars…
It’s simply unbelievable how fast SMS works once they tackle an issue, and now seems the time to tackle the Fanatec FFB… Yay !

Also Francorchamps is getting gorgeous !  It’s easily the best looking Spa I’ve ever seen in a racing game. SMS really did a huge job on the atmosphere of the belgian Ardennes, even a very light fog effect on Eau Rouge from the top… Beautiful.

      • Anonymous

will have to try it out later seems to be developing a buzz! I just can’t believe its gonna be done this year though! i hope it is! Iracing have done a great job of spa too, how does the layout compare is it close enough?

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Well, of course iRacing’s Spa is the best out there for the layout, you can’t beat laser scanning and iRacing’s FFB is of course much more “finished” than CARS’.
That being said, SMS’s version is much more gorgeous, nothing new here, and it’s close enough to the layout of the original that you don’t have to learn the whole track again, for sure.
The difference of feeling is more dependent on the physics/FFB/looks, in fact the games themselves, than the layout in itself.

      • Anonymous

Well if its close enough thats good enough for me! laser scan accuracy isn’t essential but it’s nice! some times though you just know things are a bit off, although I love the pcars version of Bathurst so far!

  • Eric Zehnder

Anybody here tried the new “Leonus 68″? At first I didn’t like it but now I enjoy the challenge. It reminds me of how people describe rFactor 2; being a major challenge that bites you. I have a feeling that being that unforgiving (pCARS Leonus 68) isn’t quite realistic. Perhaps something between build 154 and 160 for that particular car.

    Thoughts people who own both?

    • Big Ron

The devs already noticed, that this car needs optimisation after adding the new physics. The rear is far too loose and i will be fixed soon.

      • Eric Zehnder

Yeah, I know I was just wondering how it compared to rFactor 2. I’ve seen a few videos and it seems like it’s sliding around all the time. That plus positive preview articles about how challenging it is to drive and it seemed like it was well received. This particular build/car combo wasn’t well received by pCARS players.

There is SUCH a fine line between challenging an unrealistic. We as sim racers love to feel challenged because then we feel like we’re really driving the car (the whole point). If it feels too easy (even if it’s realistic) it isn’t always perceived well because we don’t like the lack of challenge.

Also the peanut is neither a pea, nor a nut – discuss.

  • Anonymous

I think SMS should get the next f1 license instead of CM after looking at those shots.  Just Beautiful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I’m copying/pasting the last post from Remco Van Dijk on WMD forums about Fanatec feedback, this should be interesting to test as it’s kinda difficult to come out with these on your own… I hope he doesn’t mind, and I’m giving him the credits :P

For the current build (160), please use the following:

For all Fanatec wheel users (except CSW), please use the following settings as a starting point:

    *On-wheel settings:*
    SEn: OFF
    FFB: 100
    all other settings: OFF/zero

    *Fanatec driver settings:*
    Sensitivity: 900
    Damper: 0

    *In-game controller menu settings:*
Make sure that you have assigned and then calibrated all steering and pedals axes correctly
    FFB strength: 100
    All deadzones: zero

*In-game dev menu (F1) when in the car:*
    Vehicles/FFB Adjust/Tyre Force: value between 2 and 3
    Input/Force Mask/Steering Spring: disabled

This will give you decent FFB to start with.

    • sclowes

Maybe I’m being thick, but I cannot properly navigate the F1 menus… Once I go into 1 sub-section, I cannot make my way back to the root menu. So I have to chose to either disable spring forces or increase tyre force right now!

Any experienced dev-mode jedi that can help a young grasshopper?

      • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

To get in AND out of the dev menu, just press F1. So after you’ve changed a value, press F1 twice and you should be back in the main dev menu.
Hope it works and it helped :P

      • Ricoo

Use back space (arrow to the left) key to go back. I know it’s weird.

Apparently some startup company bought a majority share in SMS two weeks ago, and it hasn’t been posted here. I thought the point of this investment model was to not need a producer. Will this development change SMS plans for release, investments, returns, etc?

I was going to compliment you on a nice find but you’ve been a pain in my ass recently so I wont.

I hope this doesn’t lead to some announcement down that line of some major change to how things are working now that is detrimental to the members.   I’m just being pessimistic I know.

      Nice find btw :)

LOL, I’m not going to treat you any different than anyone else. :)

Yeah, I’m just interested what the details of this deal are. Purely financial?

And surely Montoya heard about this, that raises a tiny little red flag in the back of my mind. Either he didn’t want to publicise it, or he didn’t think it was newsworthy.

so we get a share of this money?

My first guess is these investors will want to get paid returns first. Would they invest if not?

      • Ricoo

This company owns 60 % of SMS, so account for 60% of SMS investments into Project CARS. For WMD members it should change nothing.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/4U6ZZVSQ2T72UKHXTOHEE4QYOM Seifer

This news came out Feb 16th while Feb17 VR reported here: Full Member status is available for a one-time payment of 45€. Juniors
& Team Members who don’t wish to upgrade will receive a discount on
the finished title based on their membership commitment (Juniors will
receive the title for 10€ less while Team Members get a 25€ reduction
      off the retail price).

I guess they decided at this point that there would be no return on investment and they turned the financial support they had so far into a discount price once the game will be released.. It’s funny because tons of people has been blaming rF2 to ask money for a beta while everyone seem to have done the same for pCARS without knowing it. I might be wrong but it doesn’t look like there would be any ROI even if the game sells millions now. If this is the case I wouldn’t want to be one that invested a few grands.

  • Andrew Wittmaier

I really want to purchase a key to get into this game. Please let me know how to do so. The memberships on the website seem to be closed. Please help.
