Project CARS – Build 124 For All Members Available

Slightly Mad Studios have released the first weekly build of their WMD-powered Project CARS title in 2012, making plenty of improvements available to all team members including Juniors.

Build 124 brings improved physics for several cars based on the feedback the team has received from professional race car driver Ben Collins.

Build 124 (6/1/12, Junior Member+)

  • Client Version increments for all affected by recent physics changes for cars requiring leaderboard reset
  • CDeferredRenderingHelper – only set the specular irradiance map if it is enabled
  • Ambient only shader fixes
  • Shader fix for missing brake/light flares (DX9 and DX11)
  • New camera config for Bathurst
  • New physics per the Ben Collins thread

The build is available to all member levels including Juniors, giving Junior members the first chance to enjoy the new content that was introduced before Christmas, including the Ariel Atom Mugen and improved versions of several tracks.

Team Membership of Project CARS starts at a one-time payment of 10€ for Junior access to regular development builds and the WMD development forum where members can follow the development progress and help shape Project CARS.

For more info on pricing and benefits of membership, check out the WMD website. To give you an idea what to expect, below are several new previews made by WMD team members, showing off unedited screenshots of content currently available in Project CARS.

    What stunning graphics!!

Direct X11 brings fantastic textures and shadows.

Unfortunately, we won’t never see these effects in Rfactor 2 (only direct x9).

I will give a try of this game (and waiting Asseto Corsa)

  • Maciej Kosmalski

there isnt big change in how pcars looks in dx9 and dx11. Its just advanced engine both in dx9 and dx11…

  • Anonymous

Awh boowhoo..!!. DX11 wont do you any good the 21st of December anyway….

  • Ricoo

    Very nice screenshots.

  • daz

    Gee whizz.
Can’t believe the driver has still got that welder’s helmet on, lol.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000119964258 Tomas Beha

And can’t fit inside the car (pic9) :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=557052351 Damon Clewlow

It’s far from being the #1 priority, but they do know about this comical issue and it will be fixed :)

    Double Post -

  • Anonymous

    Wow.   Looking fabulous.

  • Anonymous

Well? How does it drive? How does it feel at this point? …and the immersion? Thanks to any responders who have tried it.

  • Ricoo

It’s well worth 10€ to see by yourself. ;)

  • badracer

Some differences are noticeable: much better performance in DX11, better shadows and shadow lightning, lightning effects are advanced, more natural and brighter look in comparison to dx9.

  • Maciej Kosmalski

yes, but even in dx9 its one of the best looking games out there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Maybe he is a member but can’t try it today ?
Or maybe he just wants to know what we think of it ?
For example I’m a senior member but my cockpit is out of order for the moment, so I’m also interested in knowing what you guys feel about it…

  • Anonymous

Hey Montoya, why are you always mentioning only the latest build notes? There are several builds between team member builds. List those too!

  • Ricoo

Of course, why don’t you begin to apply that to you?

My answer was not judgemental or aimed to be naughty. I just think the game is good and is well worth a small investment.

  • badracer

Oh yeah, no doubt. But even it consumes a lot of PC power.

  • yorch sincla

I like it, but i still find the cars undriveable-uncomfortable to drive (excuse my english)…i think i’ll wait 3 o 4 months to try another build…

  • Anonymous

please fix the Thrustmaster t500 force feedback dead spot or this sim is a waste of my money…….. 50-75 degrees of no feeling at all?  Literally a waste of good graphics if the FFB is junk.  They have been saying their “trying” for months now.

    bummed paying customer.

  • Raphael Smith

No they have been saying for months that they are in the process of completely redoing the FFB/input system. It takes time to do something like this. The ffb that exists is 100% placeholder ffb that will be completely changed when the rewrite is done. If your having problems it’s probably better to wait until the new ffb system has been added to the playable builds. It is a PRE-alpha after all. You are not a customer at this point either but an investor.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I admit I was a little harsh, but my point is still valid… Why don’t I start with me ? I told you above, my rig is out of order for the moment… So, what do YOU think about this build ?
Don’t tell me it’s naughty to ask you what you think about a game ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I haven’t been following the WMD boards for some time, so that’s great news ! Thanks.

  • Anonymous

Are there any FFB issues while using a G25? Are dead spots issues isolated to those using Thrustmaster wheels?

  • Anonymous

People who think they are buying a finished game here make me facepalm.
It’s a game in development for f**k sakes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

In a few weeks/months, the new FFB model will be done, I bet you’ll like it better then.
I for one do no consider C.A.R.S. to be really playable, I only launch it every few weeks to see the advancement since last build… It’s going to take long to have something really enjoyable.
As stated many times before, this is not a finished product…

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

    Second that.

Maybe not the builds themselves, but add all the intermediary build notes between team member builds, as those bugs/features are only listed in the build in which they have been fixed or added.

  • Maciej Kosmalski

yep. i wonder how much optimization can affect fps? 10% – 20% gain in fps? i know nothing about it so im just guessing…

  • Ricoo

I have no problem with my G25 and FFB is rather good for me.

  • Ricoo

The physics has improved in this build and the cars are easier to control under sliding.

The driving is really enjoyable now.

To have fun the problem is more the AI that drives like Kamikazes.

  • Ricoo

The main improvement in this build is in the tire physics. They tried to make the car more responsive in corners following comments from Ben Collins. Now I find it easier to control a slide. Most of the comments on this subject are positive in the WMD forum too.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jcruze88 Justin ForzaBarça Cruze

Definitely feels easier to control slides, still needs some tweaking but I think we’re getting there.
The revamped FFB cant come soon enough though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

    Wow, thanks !
I gotta put my rig in order to try it out then :D

  • Anonymous

Ha, ha. So observant Laurent. I have sold my complete racing system and chassis about a month ago and am in the long process of putting together a SimXperience motion rig and building a bleeding edge pc. So I have nothing now but an electronic license as a WMD Senior member. Therefore the next 3-4 months I will live vicariously through all of you!

  • Marco Conti

Just a month ago there were some posts saying “Do we really need to know about every release?”  I am OK to get the news only for the weekly releases or whatever schedule he is on. If I really need to know about the intermediary releases I can go to the forum.

  • Anonymous

You could buy a DFGT just for the time being!
Otherwise you may encounter serious mental disorders by not using a sim for 3 to 4 months!
May the force be with you.

  • Anonymous

I’m sorry, but you should try to read more, because you’re clearly bad at it.
NO ONE said anything about the frequency of the pCARS news posts. What we’re saying is that there are several builds with their own build notes which do not get any mention here. The news post only contains the changes made / new features added in the latest team member build, but does not mention anything that happened between the previous and the current team member build.

  • Marco Conti

@MAFIIA:disqus, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?  Are you looking to pick a fight with someone? I fail to see where my post deserves this treatment. You can certainly disagree and I can certainly be wrong, but I don’t see why in the process we have to completely do away with simple courtesy and civility.
I read the post I replied to and I recall reading a post some time ago that  basically asked for less pCARS reports.  Did I read it wrong? Possible. I did not take notes at the time and I didn’t think it was necessary for me to go back and read every post to be sure.
But even if I was dead wrong, I did not personally set out to offend you or anyone else. If anything I was thinking about the poor guys whose job is to gather and publish the news and I was trying to remind everyone that (as far as I remember, of course) in the near past somebody had commented in this regard.

I resent the use of personal attack when you could have made the very same point without using CAPS and telling me that I am no good at reading.

You have to realize that there are real people behind these comments and we are not made of pixels. This is the only point I wanted to make and while I cannot stop you from replying, I am not coming back to check a response. I hope you understand where I coming from and that while I am annoyed at your post, my previous one was simply meant to help out in the discussion. If you interpreted it otherwise you were in error.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Wow, you’re going for the SimXperience ? Damn, lucky you :)

Bernard has done a wonderful job and is very supportive of the community.

Man, you’re going to have A BLAST !

Will you be taking the 2DOF version or the 3DOF ? I’d love to try the loss of traction module, but my rig isn’t compatible with SimXperience 3DOF stage.

Anyways, we still have to wait for the SMS team to export the data to the dbox module or an eventual X-Sim C.A.R.S. plugin. As it’s a pre-alpha (makes me laugh to tears, all this alpha/beta name calling by people who have no idea of a standard dev cycle, and how C.A.R.S. somehow doesn’t follow those pattern at all, as they’re using a new kind of dev organisation, but I disgress). So don’t worry about not being able to use your rig on C.A.R.S. yet, it doesn’t work for now.

What kind of hardware will you get with that ? Projector(s) ? 32-47″ LED screen(s) ? What’ll be in your PC ? (gfx, CPU, HD)

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Haha thanks Nestor, but my whole rig is stuck in the garage, where it’s too cold to drive for the moment. There’s just no room to install a wheel on my desk, but if there was, I still got 2 Fanatecs ;)

Simracing is fun for me, but far from an addiction. Rather a no brainer hobby. I hate competition by principle, I’m in it for the sheer driving sensations.

Before the end of the month, I’ll have a free room in my house that I’ll use as my “office” : sim cockpit + 3D videoprojector, PC/Macs for webdev (I still drive free communities online), electronics and microcontrollers for my R&D, RC Helicopters, guitars, etc.
I have no job anymore (yes, I got most of that stuff while I had one, but only now do I have the time to play with it) but no way I’m getting bored all day ;)

Anyways, the good sims are still coming along, I’ll be ready for rFactor2 for sure :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Agreed, Marco, we don’t need to know every time a release is made (more than twice a week), but if Montoya is to list the changes that have been made since last release, he should include build notes from every release since the last he mentionned. Else the information on VirtualR on C.A.R.S. is totally incomplete and thus unreliable and thus pointless.

It’s just to improve the consistency on the coverage of C.A.R.S.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I usually don’t answer on behalf of someone else, but I’ve been shocked by your attitude, MAFIAA. Please learn to behave respectfully on VirtualR, there’s absolutely no justification to your attitude. This isn’t even trolling, it’s much worse. I bet if VirtualR had a user contract, you could be banned for such a displaced behaviour.

Be ashamed, man, that’s the minimum you can do.

  • Anonymous

Oh for christ sake, what are you talking about? I personally do not give a you-know-what about you. Don’t make this about you. Because it’s about this sentence “I recall reading a post some time ago that basically asked for less pCARS reports” you keep repeating like a parrot. It has nothing to do with the OP.

So, once again, just for you:

    pCARS builds: b1 – b2 – b3 – b4 – b5
    b1: In news post #1.
    b5: In news post #2.
    b2 – b3 – b4: Nowhere.

The news post #2 should contain b2 – b3 – b4 – b5, not only b5. Get it? That’s all I was talking about in the OP. I didn’t say anything about the frequency of pCARS news.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Djeezus, you really are an asshole, do you know that ?
Why do you have to be continually rude to other people ?

You must be clearly very frustrated to behave like that. It’s sad, man, real sad.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Are you talking about the Mayan calendar ? Haha first time I hear about that in here…

But we have NO IDEA IF or WHAT could happen on dec 21st…

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I guess we’ll have to wait to know ;)

  • Anonymous

Somebody’s rude on the internet, what a _______ disaster. Deal with it.
IMO it’s better than being a retard.

  • http://twitter.com/Michael_42 Michael

I bet any gain (from whatever the current performance is) by optimisation will be more than taken up by the myriad additional features that are going to be added and aren’t in at the moment.

i.e I wouldn’t expect the performance to get significantly better. If you’re lucky, it won’t get worse by the end of the project (but even that sounds unlikely given the wishlist of features)

  • Eric Zehnder

If you truly are a paying customer then simply register your issues in the bugs area of the forum. Also, you should already know that the input system is still be re-worked. Sucks that you have these issues but they will be worked out. They don’t plan on alienating entire swaths of people with good, name brand wheels like yours.

  • Eric Zehnder

You can also feel free to simply not open up the story when he posts something about pCARS. I don’t like hearing about every new rFactor mod so I simply bypass the post.

  • Eric Zehnder

For those who don’t invest and have access, here’s my mini-review of this build:

Placeholder FFB: I know input/FFB systems are being rewritten still.

Audi R18: Feels more like I would expect. I’ve never seen
the real Audi team drifting sideways and you won’t get too out of shape
here until you’re pushing too hard or simply not driving it properly.
Seems good to me but will really be looking forward to Ben Collins’
    review.

Audi A4 DTM: Also feels more like I would expect. Since
the start this car has always felt a little too light (like it simply
didn’t weigh enough) and that it was stuck to the road a bit much. This
feels better as you can tell the car is still built off a fairly beefy
Audi chassis, rolls a bit, weight transfer. I also noticed that power
over steer is easier to see, catch, and control. Seems like an
    improvement over previous builds.

Formula B: I don’t know what to think about this car. When
driving it normally it feels like I would expect (F1-ish but slower)
however when you fly into corners way to fast it seems like it should
bite my head off a bit more. Going through Eau Rouge with all sorts of
bad steering wheel input and throttle doesn’t spit me out in as dramatic
a way as my horrible driving would warrant. I don’t have enough sim
experience (and no real life experience) to say if this feels realistic.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

You clearly have no respect for others, you now explicitly insult people.
There’s no excuse for that kind of attitude online.
You seem to have serious psychiatric issues in order to behave like that in public.

I can only have pity for you and hope you find some wisdom on your path. Or some good spanking ;)

  • Anonymous

I’m sure the following post will be deleted (sooner or later), but there’s a good chance that you’ll read it first, so here it goes:

Fuck off, faggot. How’s that for an answer? Oh and stick the “no excuse for that kind of attitude” BS up your gay ass.

3DoF, Laurent. I will likely be running 30″ computer monitors because of their superior resolution rate. It will require me to build a pc powerful enough to run all of eye candy at max. What I am not sure of is what manufacturer’s graphic card to run. AMD/ATI eyefinity or nVidia. Any suggestions or advice as I proceed forward? Thanks so much. -Eddie

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Oups, it didn’t get deleted. Sad for you, as now everybody knows how lame you are.

Keep insulting me, it only proves you got to the end of your capacity for logical thinking. Ouch, didn’t get very far… Hahahahahahaha.

Seriously, man, you seem like stuck in a corner… That was never my intention, you put yourself alone in that sad situation. I wish you no harm, really.

    Peace out…

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Well, even not considering the price of the 30″ monitors, this is going to be tricky if you want some fluidity in the latest games… Most games already max out a SLI or CF setup with normal 3xHD resolution, and I don’t think you’re going to see ANY difference while driving between 3x 2500×1400 instead of 3x1920x1080…

I’d rather go for bigger screen and less resolution for faster refresh rates, bigger immersion, and much less money (which means sooner unless you’re rich ;)…

Or if you’ve got the room, I’d go for a triple projector like Frex… I can assure you size DOES MATTER when thinking about immersion.

I’ve run until now with a trustworthy 42″ LCD screen mounted on aluminium profiles to match my rig, but have recently bought a 3D projector (Acer H5360, quite cheap and nice results) that I still have to test (as soon as I’ve got my office room back).
