Project CARS – Bathurst Reality Check

WMD team-member BSNismo has put together a very impressive reality check video of Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS title’s Bathurst track.

Even though the iconic Mount Panorama is very much work in progress in Project CARS, lacking plenty of track side objects and details, the video shows off the accuracy of the layout as you can experience yourself below.

Bathurst is among the tracks and cars that are instantly available for Project CARS team members to try in the newest development build. Team Membership starts at a one-time payment of 10€ for Junior access to regular development builds. For more info on pricing and benefits of membership, check out the WMD website.

Did anyone notice that the time in the real video is running slower than the time in the C.A.R.S. video? At the beginning you can see that the time in C.A.R.S. is ahead like half a second. At the end of the video it is a gap of nearly 20 seconds … As I assume that the time of Jenson Button is correct, the timing in C.A.R.S. seems to run slightly too fast.

As the framerate on the real track video is strange and slow, I think that the real world vid is manipulated… or they used a crap cam…

Again I am assuming that the time of Jenson Button is correct. Take this site http://www.caradvice.com.au/111550/jenson-button-craig-lowndes-lap-bathurst-in-an-f1-car/ they are talking about a 1:48 time, as well. So this one seems reasonable. Again I think that the video of the game seems not to be correct.

The game on the right looks like crap. Washed out textures and last gen. graphics engine :P

The time of Jensens is correct but is done in an F1 car and the game in a DTM so off course it has been slowed down to match the game. The video is made purely to show the accuracy of the layout for such an early build.

Imola below. Again could not find a real world video of an R18 round Imola, so the real life video is sped up slightly to match game to again show the accuracy.

Yup thanks. Just realized it too :)

What is the new building at the end of pit strtaight?

The big deal is the vast difference in FOV between the two videos. With identical FOV the track on the right would look A LOT wider.

Since this is about accuracy of the track layout, I’m wondering why don’t the studios include old track layouts, i.e. before tracks were crippled by chicanes. You know, crashing into a wall at 300 km/h *in a simulator* doesn’t hurt anyone, so why aren’t we given the joy to race the old layouts? Going back on topic, will this track ship with an additional layout pre-1987 i.e. without The Chase? Shouldn’t be too much work, right?

Yeah it’s probably g2realife engine again. lol

This looks promising. If SMS improves its trees (I know it’s WIP but it’s true in other tracks as well) it could be really great.

The trees at Imola are phenomenal. It’s further down the line though in the cycle, so look more polished. I think the trees at Bathurst even now are pretty convincing in design but just lack the polish.

I am building a 1984 version of Bathurst, pre chase last year of the Group C cars. You are right, it is not that hard.

My Lakeside, Queensland Raceway and Bathurst will be redone for rFactor 2.

  • Werner Vansweevelt

This is a joke, the bumps and elevation changes are way to small, Bathurst is steep, this looks just like any other track. I looks the same in the comparison, but the ‘real’ on board is a low camera position while the ‘game’ is a normal camera position. Put both camera’s at the same height and you will get a very different result…

it looks like the road is much too smooth in CARS
