Project CARS – BAC Mono Announced

Slightly Mad Studios have announced the addition of another fully-licensed vehicle to their WMD-powered Project CARS title as the stunning BAC Mono will be joining the title in 2012.

The BAC Mono is a lightweight, road legal sport vehicles sports vehicle, aiming to bring the sensation of single-seater driving to public roads.

The car comes with advanced, racing-inspired aerodynamics, the sleek form allowing for clean airflow to the car’s radiators and engine. Designed to be as aerodynamically efficient as possible, the Mono offers supercar levels of top speed while delivering handling precision and balance stability that complement the outstanding levels of mechanical grip on offer.

Despite the sophisticated aerodynamics however, BAC did manage to include a small trunk at the front into which a helmet fits perfectly. Aside from this one allusion to practicality, every detail of the BAC Mono is performance-led, including a fully-adjustable pushrod suspension with damping elements from SACHS Racing, AP Racing brakes with 295mm ventilated discs and a FIA compliant steel safety cell and rollover structure.

The Mono is powered by a 2.3 litre four-cylinder Cosworth engine – providing 280bhp at 7700rpm – which is mated to a F3-spec Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox. Weighing in at a mere 540 kilograms, the car sprints from 0-60 miles in a mind-blowing 2.8 seconds; reaching a top speed of 170mph.

The BAC Mono will be available to WMD members later this year, membership  starts at a one-time payment of 10€ for Junior access, including access to the busy WMD forum where members can talk to the development team and help shape Project CARS. For more info on pricing and benefits of membership, check out the WMD website.

Strange-looking machine… but I can’t wait to see how it drives!

  • noro ardanto

looks like a single seater KTM X-Bow! Can’t wait!

A singleseater experience for public roads.

See how long you can keep your driver license is a bigger challenge than pushing the throttle.

  • Juhan Voolaid

They are just creating more content, but they should work on physics.

  • Anonymous

You do realise those two things are not mutually exclusive?

  • Eric Zehnder

I would think this is going to be in the new season of Top Gear starting very soon. This thing looks a bit mental but I hear it’s insane to drive!

If SMS want to compete with GT5 and Forza4 they need a lot more content. Seriously, what the hell did they thinking, how can C.A.R.S. which has only ten-or-something cars compete with GT5′s >1000 or Forza4′s >500 ?

Why we love GT5/Forza4 when there is a better simulators like iRacing? – because of the content, because of the graphics.

I believe they can make better physics than these two to get on pair with iRacing or rFactor.
IMO graphically C.A.R.S. already the best of any racing game, or very close to that.
But what about the content? We don’t need one more good but very content-limited game.

In “WMD overview” document http://wmdportal.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/WMD_Overview_1011.pdf  take a look at “The Competition”.
DIRT 3 is the competitor? Seriously? One year before release – and nothing done on rally content of the game.

Don’t get me wrong, I wish SMS the best luck and I’m going to buy C.A.R.S. on release day but…

  • badracer

What are you talking? The team of SMS is traveling to get licenses every day. But since big manufacturer deals take longer than deals with indepentend manufacturers, it isn´t a miracle, that those cars appear first.

Ian Bell mentioned, that there are big things coming later. But maybe not for people without patience.

No different to the millions of modern superbikes being driven everyday. Except this car looks a little less risky for the drivers life expectancy.

If you read the Forza forums (like I do…. a lot) people are forever wanting more tracks. It sure is nice having 500+ to choose from, but a common area of discussion is there are too few places to race them on, this same area is 99% of the time compared to the shift series, and for 99.9% of the people… Shift wins.

Seems SMS at least has that covered, in the past at least, we’ll have to see if the situation remains the same for P.C.A.R.S.

  • Anonymous

Totally agree, Shift had an incredible track selection.

Its not really an everything thing that I get impressed with this new licensed cars coming in with Project C.A.R.S. – indeed it is really impressive.

The game may not be mod-friendly but with this new coming cars and maybe (maybe!) … some fictional real world landmark tracks where we will be able to enjoy this cars.

But nevertheless – its better than the previous SMS games worked on… looking forward on more progress with this simulator.

By the lord Harry, that must be the ugliest thing I’ve seen on four wheels since….. well since the beginning. Now I must take my leave and go for “groan down the china telephone”……

  • M C

Funny how Asetto Corsa have announced the KTM X-bow R, it seems their trying to cover each other off, or all going for the same thing =)

  • http://twitter.com/Ghoults myName

Has it been decided yet what type of game or sim pcars wants to be? When it was launched the final goal was “to be decided later”…?

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I do think more superbikes owners can drive than supercars owners… How many good drivers can afford a supercar today ;)

  • http://twitter.com/rs_mircea MirceaRad

Well it’s worth a try the 135 build, very big step forward for FFB (at least on Logitech wheels).

  • badracer

Nope, at the moment the prime goal is to build up all features and the base content. Design phase will come at next.

  • daz

    They are car games/sims.
There is a very big likelihood a number of cars will be many of the upcoming race titles (Porsche obviously not included, lol).
I don’t think pCars just went out this afternoon to get this license, just because AC announced the KTM. I’d guess they have been working on getting this for a while.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=309600558 Ben Lee

Yep, they really need to announce some Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Ford Jaguar cars, however we all know they cost money.

  • M C

I mean how for example AC, iR, rF2 & CARS all have or plan to have a classic Grand Prix car.  There either all trying to cater for everyone, or just making sure no one steals a march on them.

  • Anonymous

And iRacing has the Radical SR8
    Forza has the Lotus 2-eleven
GT5 has a Caterham as well

    Track day cars are popular.

With the price of petrol rising and all the difficulties the automobile industry will have to face in the near future its strange that they still don’t accept free publicity !

Still downloading, I’ll be snowboarding this afternoon, it’ll be there on my return.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

They still don’t understand they are OVER. Soon all that crap won’t matter anymore. Or we’ll have other things to worry about, like our freedom or survival.

    You lucky snowboarding bastard ;)
Damn, snow in the afternoon, racing in the evening… Life is zen ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

And who gives a damn about a brand anyways ? The cars in CARS will drive the same when they’ll have a “name”, it’ll only cost us the investors money to put a logo on it ?

If it was only for me, I wouldn’t get ANY license if we have to pay for it.

I’d prefer 6 months of man hours in dev than an investment for stupid copyrights and licensing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

Precisely, this is still a pre-alpha release. There’s been discussions about wether including more content at this stage or not, and the devs had then stated they wouldn’t include much more at once but still enough variety of cars and tracks to test them together. Once they’re happy with the engine, or at last they’ve done a feature freeze, then they’ll be able to work on including more content.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laurent.cortier Laurent Cortier

I’d love to see Jeremy’s face in it indeed ;)

  • M C

The Lotus 2-Eleven was also in the AC trailer, I assume they have the license in place, unless it was just there for an example (a bit odd if that’s the case).

  • Anonymous

Accompanying the difficulties of the auto industry, I’ve heard some of the more elite brands make more money from licensing deals than car sales. I mean, who does Ferrari need free advertising to? I’m sure not going to buy one just because I saw it in a racing game. Instead, I already know how much I want to drive a Ferrari in a racing game, so much I’m willing to pay.

  • http://twitter.com/StarFoXySxv550 StarFoXySxv550

About that Porsche situation….. it’s getting slightly annoying/worrying now.

All these superb games/sims coming soon but not one contains a single Porsche, probably one of the most popular racing manufacturers in the world with the pedigree to go with it, yet it seems they are completed restricted to arcade games at the moment (and none in sight at that). I mean, none of the current EA devs have any sim pedigree, do they? Not even Sim/cade pedigree.

I know we have modders, but it would be nice if we could see the developers interpretation of this legendary marque.

Life is shit, but snow was great today!
I’ve had a short spin on PCARS and it feels quite good too!

  • M C

Well a while ago there was a Kunos nKPro server running a 911cup car.  That was before EA blocked Porsches from appearing in FM4, so if that car was meant for AC we’ll probably never see it :(
