The incredible amount of details in the cockpit of Team GSMF’s Porsche 997 GT3-RSR for rFactor has left many people worried if their system will be able to handle all the eye-candy.
To show the system load the car’s interior creates, modeller Alien@work has released two screenshots of a full field at Mid Ohio, including his frame-rates and system specs. Even though the car sets a new benchmark in terms of rFactor mod quality, it seems to run very well even on mid-range systems.

That is a mid-range system, period. It doesn’t matter who’s eyes you’re looking through, that hardware is what the mid-range is. It’s not the modding community’s fault that there are so many people being drama queens about how oh-so-expensive it is to upgrade. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if I can afford to build a quad core with an 8800, then anyone can.
I’m not trying to come off like a dick here, but it’s kind of hard to be nice about it when we’re in the year 2009 and there are still gamers whining about their E-Machines P4 system not having enough horsepower to run a moderately-high-poly model in rFactor on their 9800 Pro.
I just want to take these people, and shake them violently, and say “MY GOD, MAN, IT’S BEEN 7 YEARS!! GO GET A CREDIT CARD AND UPGRADE!!”

You complete dick! *bitch, whine, moan, groan, complain*
Well, the fact is, yes, I have a budget powerhouse PC, but while I’m at uni (i.e. most of the time) my racing rig is normally a laptop. Uni is also the reason I can’t whip out some plastic and go parts buying :( It can run rFactor on most things high/full, but something like this will probably mean I’ll have to push the grid-size down to something not particularly like a race meeting, maybe 8-9 cars

we make race simulations, not portable mini-games^^ *sorry*
…it can be, that the RSR run´s faster, than PCC07…that must be enough ;)

The difference between sims and games is that adults are into sims and could care less about being the cool guy on the block with the fastest card out. Adults also have different priorities then kids living in a dorm room on the parents income. Not saying anyone here is in that boat. They also may not have the expertise or feel comfortable doing the upgrade them self’s. In my league the average age is 45 and goes as high as 65. The majority of the guys in the league don’t run full detail, DX9 and maxed out AA and AF. Here is an example of priorities. One of the guys in our league desperately needs to upgrade but is about to go on a three month vacation to Australia. So, which would you do, save your money and spend it in Oz or blow it on a new video card?
Siggs has a good point about the laptop too. A lot of people need laptops for work and don’t necessarily have the funds to buy a laptop and build a second rig for racing. One of the guys in our league travels all the time and plays on his laptop from hotel rooms sometimes.
Unfortunately this is the downfall of PC development. You have to write things that support a wide audience. But in my eyes the system in this example is just bellow mid level. But that is coming from someone in the IT industry. BTW, I NEVER play games so my old 8800GT is just fine for me.

Excuse me Alien, ‘portable minigames’? I take sim racing as seriously as the next guy thanks, just because I’m using a laptop doesn’t mean I’m any less dedicated, just in a different situation. I do what I can, and more importantly, like Ermax said, I do it in my budget.
But on the other hand, If you say it runs at least as well as PCC, then thats very positive.

Looking spectacular. Can’t wait.
Seriously people, its 2009. Update your computers. Moderate hardware is NOT expensive and you can not expect everyone to cater to your 10 year old systems.

yes….i think nobody has made a test with pcc07(there you will see, that fps are lower in this scene), before post, that he has a many years old system.
a.m. we have 20% more fps in cockpit as with pcc07, but we can´t say, what is remaining at the end.
nevertheless, first quality, then old pc´s….that´s our slogan, because we want to see, in what car we drive ;)

I don’t run an old machine, it was bought Spetember thanks. And I’m pretty certain most people can afford to build a PC ‘when they feel like it’ as your suggesting, it does cost, despite what you say. And personally, I can’t afford it atm, I’m sure there are people in my siuation too.

Seriously people, some of us have three children heavily involved in sport and art activities. Seriously people, some of us have stay-at-home moms as wives. Seriously people, some of us are saving for kids to go to college and for retirement.
Seriously people, some of us don’t have the coin to upgrade our computers semi-annually or some of us choose to spend our limited discretionary coin elsewhere.

No one is forced to upgrade his computer and no one is forced to play every single game or mod. So if it doesn’t work on your system there are enough other things to do. But without some technical advance we all would still be playing Night Driver.
You can’t demand from someone to shell out money he doesn’t have or change his priorities. If money were no problem we would not race on a computer.
You can’t demand from modders to still cater for decade old systems. They can do with their work as they please, even if this means it’s only playable 2 years from now.
