Porsche 997 RSR – Manthey Racing Previews

Posted on October 31st, 2008 in

Team GSMF is working on the Porsche 997 GT3-RSR, a project that shapes up to set a new benchmark in terms of overall quality for rFactor mods.

Porsche’s newest GT2 challenger is a popular race car which is used all around the world in bigger and smaller series. While the mod will include plenty of well known examples from the ALMS, FIA GT or International GT Open, it will also feature Germany’s most famous national series entry.

Manthey Racing won the Nürburgring Nordschleife 24 Hour race in 2007 and 2008 using the 997 RSR, you can find first previews of the semi-works Manthey car below.

Very impressive! I love all the little extra attention to modeeling details around the 3D mesh and vents. Only thing that looks weird is the rear exhausts, are they 3D? Some shadowing seems to be missing? Nice work otherwise!

Looks amazing so far. The rear exhaust looks like that because the rfactor engine has limitations with shadows and shading but it can be fixed with the textures but I think it looks fine how it is.

The model is awesome, and I’m sure GSMF will do a great job with 3D model, sounds and physics, but… doesn’t the exhaust looks strange in that pic?

Looking forward to taking the RSR for a spin, the 2007 997 is one of my favourite mods, now that I have had a gaming system capable of running in in full glory for the last six months or so!

I would love a hint as to how the car handles. Some like Sean Edwards said that they felt the suspension was too soft on the GSMF 997 and preferred the settings of the Enduracers Carrera Cup (as in they were much closer behavior-wise to what he drives in real life on the race track this season).

Will we need to rev-match on the downshifts (like Enduracers), or will the RSR not need this skill?

Will the gearing be fixed again, or will be able to adjust gears according to the track?

I drive both Porsche mods, but have never got behind the wheel of the beast in real life ™. Due to the very little online server action of Enduracers, I do drive the GSMF more (especially in the public Bockbierbude.de servers).
