Playstation 5 On Track For Christmas Release

The Covid-19 outbreak has vastly impacted the technology business around the globe as international supply chains, travel and manufacturing are currently being interrupted in many way by various restrictions.

One of the major technology releases of the year won’t be affected though, at least on one side of the competition aisle, as Sony has now confirmed that the planned Christmas release of their upcoming Playstation 5 console won’t be held up by Covid-19:

Regarding the launch of PlayStation®5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season.

Furthermore, Sony’s newest fiscal report also clarifies that no issues are expected with the development of launch titles in Sony owned studios:

t this point in time major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony’s own first-party studios or its partners’ studios.

The Unreal Engine is of course of significance to sim racing as well, as the 4 version is what powers Assetto Corsa Competizione, Kunos Simulazioni’s title is due to be released on current-get consoles this July.
