Planned Outage Coming Up

If you visited the site in the past 24 hours, you´ve probably noticed very slow speeds and lots of error messages. The reason for that is simple: The recent releases of rFactor 2 previews have simply caused the server to collapse, right now the site is staying up thanks to lot of caching. Seems like the current server isn’t too happy about hundreds of simultaneous connections….

To address these issues, the site will be moving to a more powerful dedicated server in a few hours. During that time (approx. 4 hours), the site won’t be available at all. But don’t worry, VirtualR is not going anywhere…it just needs to be prepared for more growth.

I´ll keep you updated, I´m extremely sorry about the inconvenience! :weird:

    yay. coupling the amount of views you get and the fact that you use wordpress…it’s bound to kill those shared servers after a while… all hail dedicated. who are you going to host with btw?

    My current hoster, it’s just moving in-house. That keeps the downtime to a minimum.

    Actually, this has been somewhat of a healty shock as I´ve been postponing this step for a while now. But it definately is the best for the site in the long run… plus I´ve been holding back some new features simply because I wasn’t sure the server would handle it.

    goes to show where the real popularity is eh ?
    Look fwd to seeing virtualr on new servers. Seems it will need to be there if more rF2 stuff is shown off.
    Maybe ISI should help you out with some of the hosting costs, hehe :)

    Nope, the site has not been moved yet…it will be in about 2-3 hours, because it’s night time in Europe then.

    It runs kind of okay now, but that’s just because of heavy caching. That works aslong as no new stories or comments are posted because that forces the cache to update, putting the full load on the database again.

    But you´re still free to comment in the meantime, it won’t break anything :sd:

    Haha that explains it. I was about the net today, and people had posted a link to my “3 more rFactor shots” and like every few posts about mine was your initial link xD. So yea you did stir quite a lot of dust with rFactor 2.
