Nice to see everyone's getting along. I don't have a copy of rFactor, waiting for rFactor 2. Any chance of the track being converted over to GTR evo?

And Im sorry too Tim. iRacing is a fantastic sim, its just the pricing structure that I have issues with.

Anyhoo, Oran park, I love it! Easily the best feeling track in rF, when I drive it with the caterhams its very comparable with iRacing.
I wonder what others favorite mods for susp/tire feel are with this or any other track that isnt billiard table smooth?

Id love to see some of the other layouts for Oran park, with marker cones  I got so lost on my first couple of laps :shame:

Let’s move on, it wasn’t a big deal, it just irked me.

However it was taken, please know that I meant no offense. The comment I initially responded to had the same affect on me as mine obviously did you, and I'm sorry for mine.

the.cosmic.pope:
Whoever Tim works for is irrelevant. He should be allowed to post here as a racing sim enthusaist like the rest of us, without being attacked. Tim did not play up iRacing, and did not put down Oran Park LiDAR. He simply said the scanning technique are different.

Actually, it is relevant. He felt antagonized by a sarcastic post and needed to announce that iRacing's way of doing things is "better", which it may very well may be. What he didn't do is ask how Piddy utilized the point-cloud data before claiming iRacing was superior. No harm, no foul...unless you happen to be employed by iRacing. Again it's not a big deal, but it is relevant. You need to think before you type if you're an employee of a competitor.

In the case of Oran Park LiDAR the accuracy of one single point in the point cloud can be guaranteed to within 100mm of the points real world position..... that said, the relative accuracy of the points which make up the point cloud (which Piddy is referring to) is better than 10mm.

Siggs: hahaha thats great!! We did optimise those guys a fair bit, which ultimately turned them into no-eared box-headed freaks!

@ the Iracing comparisons: thanks for the compliments! I will not say ours is better or worse than any of Iracing's efforts, the two techniques are completely different and both have their advantages and disadvantages... just keep in mind those guys have a team of modelers and the latest and greatest equipment to work with, AND they get payed to do this!

the.cosmic.pope: Within 2 cm of the point cloud data is all fine and well, but what is the accuracy of the point clouds? I remember reading about this LiDAR system before and seeing the value “30cm” mentioned before.

You need to do some more relevant reading using more recent information with emphasis on point-to-point accuracies of point cloud data.

I'll keep my comment simple.

1. Oran Park laser scanned is brilliant.

2. iRacing has amazing circuit detail especially in regards to surfaces.

3. Difference= Free addon track vs $15-25.

Think that puts just how good the Oran Parks authors have done into context!! Well done guys

PieterN:
Well I really love this track. It’s very well done and feels like a real track. And unlike tracks from iRacing this one’s free…….
One small gripe though; when cars are going over the bridge shadows are cast on the asphalt below the bridge……

It think that's due to the limits of the gMotor2 engine. I don't think it was coded with figure-8 tracks like Oran Park or Suzuka in mind.

That being said, this is an absolutely excellent track, though tighter than I imagined it would be. (then again, I've only played it before on TOCA Race Driver 2, and that isn't exactly realistic. :P)

secretagent - my visit are daily to VirtualR, my comment was actually based upon a comment. :) If my visit was based upon propaganda by it's definition, so was yours and everyone else who referred to any product - by definition.

The difference in method has already been brought up in another comment.
