“No Obstacles Here” – Great Article On Disabled Sim Racer

I´ve touched on the subject of disabled sim racers once in the past when Tim Wheatley reviewed the Accessible Racing VXP Wheel Bar almost three years ago.

Now, iRacing has put together an amazing story on one of their subscribers who successfully competes in online races despite having only one arm and one foot. Despite this huge handicap, 23 year-old Ryan Worley has managed to win four oval races and score 21 top-five finishes in 40 oval starts.

Perhaps even more amazing, Ryan has had success on road courses as well, scoring nine top-fives in 13 road course starts. Ryan has enjoyed this success racing with a gamepad as he explains his driving technique:

“If you’re curious. I steer and downshift with my toe using the left thumbstick, I click down on it to downshift. And I do the throttle with my index finger using the trigger, and I upshift by clicking down on the right thumbstick and brake by pulling down on it.”

iRacing isn’t the first simulation Ryan has been driving using this technique as his sim roots go back to Simbin’s GTR2. Make sure to check out the extensive article for more on this amazing accomplishment and to see that the passion for virtual driving overcomes even the highest obstacles!
