Since the German release of Simbin’s new GTR Evolution title is just two days away now (for whatever reason, Germany keeps on being the first country to get new Simbin titles), the first reviews start to come in.
Gamestar magazine has reviewed the game, giving it a favorable 82% score. The reviewer frowned upon the lack of appeal to the mass audience due to a missing career mode as well as on the rather old-fashioned graphics.
Much more interesting is the fact that the review does mention 24 hour races with dynamic day/night transitions. There has been much speculation in the community whether or not GTR Evolution will have that feature as it was not included in the RACE titles.
Now, mainstream gaming magazines are certainly not the most knowledgeable when it comes to sim racing, there is a chance that the reviewer just confused the game with GTR2 which offers this feature. Either way, we`ll know in three days….and until then, check out the screenshots included in the review below.

While gameplay is more important than eye candy, I think SimBin should start using the Lizard engine for graphics and physics. Visuals in GTR Evolution don’t impress me at all. The World Super GT mod looks much better.

Well, Gamestar, you can believe only half of the “news” your reading. It’s like the “Bild-Zeitung” or the “Sun” when it comes to gaming.

A little correction: 24h races are not mentioned in the review. There is just a posting in the comments where somebody of the gamestar staff wrote something about that. Maybe he talked about something what he shouldn’t talk about. ;)

It would surprise me a lot if night racing was included in GTR EVO – the engine doesn’t support it in its current form. Originally it did, but it seems like simbin spared those parts of the code to optimize the framerate or so.

I agree on the magazines point of view of a way too old engine. But still the physics are lots of fun so it compencate.. but i do look forward to try the lizard-engine on pc – which seems to be more up to date!

The game looks great, the WSGT mod looks better on the screens because of the HDR plug-in, which you can use in GTR Evo aswell.

Ive just though of something, this stupid track map thing they’ve added, that will use more processor and knowing Simbin nowadays you wont be able to turn it off.

Oh, about reliability of GameStar: have a look a page three of the article, they posted a rFactor screen of the Gallardo and the user built Nordschleife there…
