New GTR Title Coming 2011!

Simbin has just annnounced to be working on a third installment of their popular GTR series of racing simulations as a new GTR title is planned to be released in 2011.

The title is described as going back to the roots of Simbin-style racing simulations and the studio promises a significant step up in terms of realism, graphics and immersion. The title will be equipped with new and innovative multiplayer features and backed by a comprehensive post-release DLC plan.

You can check out the first concept image of the title here, further information on the title is not yet available. It’s not yet confirmed which GT-style series the new title will focus on, there’s a possible hint if you want to speculate though as the concept image shows the pit-building of the Nürburgring – A track the new FIA GT World Championship races on.

    DLC = console release?

  • scca1981

    They’ll have my money if:

New engine. – Gmotor2 is done! Stop already. Even ISI is moving on.
Real Skins/Series (obviously going to involve FIA but don’t just give the cars and then put lame skins like GTR Evo and Race On. IF you must do this at least give us the paint templates when the game is released for once.)
    Night and Endurance Racing return.
    Dynamic Track Lighting returns.
    Headlights return.
5.1 or Higher surround sound support added.

Basically take everything you removed from GTR2 when you brought the race series games out, replace it and add a new game engine.

Now for the time being there are no details on the game. We don’t know what platform it will be (pc, console or both) or even what series it will represent. All signs point to FIA but its one of those wait and see things. I do hope “return to roots” means bringing quality back.

As few already said, I will make a bet it will be rF2/gMotor3 based.

If someone can recall, when the Lizard engine was firstly announced in early 2007, it was said it will be available for PS3, X360 and PC.
3 years past, and the only game SimBin made on Lizard engine was RACE Pro for XBOX360 in late 2008… and no, it wasn’t that good. :weird:
Why GTR Evo / RaceOn weren’t Lizard based?
To me, all that Lizard engine seemed to me kinda of hoax.

Using ISI’s engine again as a platform saves SimBin the development of a new engine, so they may focus on making high quality content, though the downloadable content won’t be free, as iRacing, my guess.

Anyway, it’s a good thing that finally SimBin revealed any plans on their next product.

Beacause that would have meant to release a new title at full price, while in this way they could release them at a lower price as Race 07 expansion and still getting money with the minimum effort. This probably gave them the chance to go on with the development of their new engine.
I’m really looking forward to more news about this title, as I reinstalled GTR2 just yesterday!

But will it have iOpener support?

  • eddiespag

Great news, so I truly hope they can deliver in a great evolutionary or revolutionary step to what GTR2 was. As far as DLC goes, here’s my take on it. The original GTR and GTR 2 series had a patch or two released officially. After that, no more support…nothing. They moved on as business is business. So hopefully with DLC we can fund their ongoing support of GT3(?), at least for a few months, and have good and significant patches released to us.

    Simply great news.

My bet is on the Lizard engine. Simbin said sometime ago that Lizard would eventually see use as a pc-sim engine.

Great news. With RF2/*insert new GTR here* on the horizon, the future looks good.
Variety is the spice of life.

Great news!! I still prefer GTR2 over the Race/Race On series.

ah great another year full off assumptions etc

    im out
    seeya at release day

In the press release they mention:

“SimBin will focus on continued support for the game through multiple new innovative online features and activities”

Does this mean Simbin will embed iOpener Enabled into GTR3?

I must say that as long as this is not an april fools joke, it sounds very promising

I wouldn’t put too much money on it. I’d put my money on Lizard.

As for Lizard being a hoax – people have said the same thing about rFactor2. The truth is, both are real but developing a new engine for the PC takes time, both for ISI and Simbin. The big advantage of Lizard is they can use essentially the same game on XBox 360 and PC, something they couldn’t do if they used the ISI engine.

What Lizard and rF2 seem to have in common is they have been left behind graphically by other engines. Maybe Lizard for PC has been delayed to improve this.

Good news but lets hope the get the netcode sorted for this release!

  • Torino

Sounds like good news but… 2011 release, and they dont have a publisher yet? How are they going to survive until then?

Come to think of it that´s probably what they´re looking for with the announcement.

Nah, this might mean they too are climbing in with SRW :) (just kidding).

Can we drop all the Aprils Fools comments now ? 60+ comments in and people are still harping on about it. It clearly isn’t an April Fools joke. Imagine the backlash if it were. Get Real ™.

Maybe the ‘DLC plan’ will involve something along the lines of RACE series? Meaning: GTR3 (let’s stick to that name for now) will be a base to which new ‘bricks’ will be added. I think it could work out pretty well: RACE expansion packs contained not only new cars and tracks but also new features and fixes. A ‘bare’ RACE 07 is a different game than what we have now with all the packs installed.

  • BenUK

Well if it is based on the new GT series, they will have to re-model a lot of the tracks as the only ones which are re-used are Brno, Spa and Nurburgring.

    So then we have;

    Paul Ricard
    Silverstone
    Abu Dhabi
    Algarve
    Durban
    Interlagos
    San Luis

All of which would need to be modelled.

  • fpol

San Luis is that AMAZING natural road track in Argentina right? If, *if* someone adds a decent version of that to a sim, I bet it would become one of the classic sim tracks (ala Nords, Spa, etc).

I was wondering if 9.7 could mean 09/07/2010

Well it’s good news that they’ve finally got a clue that they can’t keep re-naming Race 07.

But, let’s not forget they announced Race Pro once, and that was supposedly all new this and that, and it didn’t turn out that way at all.

And everything PC-related for the last few years has been dire.

I see no evidence from this announcement that they’ve sacked any of the buffoons responsible for running the company during this time.

Nor is there any evidence that they’ve hired a development team capable of developing a triple-A, all singing all dancing modern title (for whatever platform(s), but presumably at least PC, 360 and possible PS3 too )

No, this is just piss and vinegar at the moment, and simbin are full of piss and vinegar. This announcement just tells us what they think we want to hear, that’s all. It’ll be more realistic, have better multiplayer, it’ll have DLC (announced just after NFS shift shafted all the PC users)

Sure it will. But don’t hold your breath folks.

Yes, give them a chance, but I’d keep an objective view. As I say, there’s nothing they have released in the last few years that your average mod team, or even a developer working by himself hasn’t done equally or better, and their console effort was dire.

What magic is suddenly going to make them develop a brilliant game? The most likely possibility is that they’ll license an engine from someone else. With the most obvious choice being their old partners.

But in the absence of that, I expect the same as Race pro, lots of ambition and enthusiasm that their designers and dev team can’t live up to. I’d love to be proved wrong, but I’m certainly not going to get caught up in the hype.

One thing is for sure, unless they license the engine, they can’t go back to their roots. Because their roots left their company years ago. Wrote their best games for them (as blimey) and then did Need For Speed shift for EA.
