New FIA GT1 Championship Game Coming

2010 will see the first ever season of the FIA GT1 World Championship that will have up to 24 GT cars competing for the World Championship title on ten tracks around the world.

The new championship might be coming to sim racers around the world too as organiser Stephane Ratel has recently spilled the beans about an upcoming video game deal for the new championship.

Even though his brief statement on the French Endurance-Info website offers no info about which platform the new title will be on or who will be working on it, this is definetely good news for the community.

The FIA GT is no stranger to driving simulations as Simbin’s GTR & GTR 2 already brought the 2003 and 2004 FIA GT seasons to the PC. Furthermore, the FIA GT has recently been working with iOpener, allowing one of the championship’s cars to be equipped with the company’s real-time position data system during a practice session at Zolder.

“We will sign a partnership with a video editor well known for the World Championship is still more readable.”
Damn google translate, but it seems weird, I wonder how “well known” we’re talking here

  • ForzaBarca88

    GTR 3?

“We will sign a partnership with a well known game company to offer the W.C. better visibility”

Nice to hear. Won’t be the overall successor to GTR/GTR2 I’d been hoping for as the FIA GT is now a single class, quick sprint format, (just 1hr I believe) but it’s still a multi chassis series which fills a much needed void if they chose to follow through with a decent driving model and tracks. Wish they had Porsche and Ferrari though :(.

Would love to see Slightly Mad get it despite the NFS stuff, as *that’s* the crew that to me, put out the most complete GT/sportscar racing title when they were the key forces behind GTR/GTR2 and GTL.

Man, I wish some dev in the US cared about Sportscars & GTs and gave us an authentic ALMS sim (even GRand Am would do).

  • GeraArg

Simbin no… Reiza plz!!!!… :sd: :sd:

  • UncleChuckle

Belief from “experts” is this series will fail.

Guess a lot depends on whether it gets decent TV coverage.

  • felipe

This game will be developed by Eutechnyx and will feature full sim gameplay it will be available for PC and PS3! They also hired some guys from Endurance Series!

    Edit. Rumor slashed by Klo-che

  • http://www.bsimracing.com BSR-WiX

Only one company would be able to create the correct mood for the FIA GT, IMO and that is Simbin. A SMS version would bring us a Shift with GT models. Thats not what we want. Simbin has not been the top producer we knew back in the GTR2 days, but this opportunity might just be their chance to get back to the nr.1 spot. Who knows? , i guess we will have to wait and see.

  • Skillcoil

Ok I came up with this since we don’t know who is gonna be the developer.

    PD -> Working on GT5
T10 -> Working on FM3 DLCs and Patches
Eutechnyx -> Working on a new game
    Eden games -> TDU2
    BB -> V8 superstars

SMS -> NFS DLCs and ?Ferrari Project?
ISI -> I have no idea
    Simbin -> ????

So IMO most likely would be Simbin. So :sd:

  • gtrNL

    GTR3. That would be nice.
If they get the modability and game engine right (Lizard 2.0 :sd: ) this could be the best sim ever. Or maybe not.

  • DeDios

OT stefan rathel, thanks for suspend fia GT2 champ. It’s a shame. Thanks SRO, thanks all this rich people who care only about profit, and don’t understand anything regarding motorsport.

  • Majik54

It will probably be Simbin, this iOpener video mentions a Simbin RTR game at about 1:45

There is no one from Endurance Series hired.

  • phil23

Well it’s exciting if it ends up in the right hands (Simbin) or Blimey provided it’s more sim than Shift!!

I cannot see why they develop for PC, but not for XBOX360 since that’s a fairly easy conversion.

  • Ryan Gilmore

I guess Ferrari & Porsche would have no reason to complain now ;)

Would rather see it on iRacing – but thats me :D

  • Austin Powers

Reading the document with google translator it speaks of a console game.

if you want a shit product just port!

  • f0xx

Why are you guys blaming SMS? They only did what EA wanted.

Yes SMS would be a great candidate, but there are better developers probably.

  • Mr. A

SMS (without too much involvement from an annoying publisher) would have been my preferred developer for a new FIA GT game. But I guess the current Simbin would do as well, as long as they get rid of, or heavily enhance, their game engine.

  • http://www.bsimracing.com Arnold Carter Wong

I am looking forward to it

  • stabiz

I really dont care until we know who will do the programming, and who their target audience is.

Need more info on rFactor 2!

  • Siggs

I have reason to believe it’s Simbin  But i think I would get in some deep sh*t if I told you why :S

  • David Wright

Everything points to Simbin. They have the license, they are well known, they are currently working with iOpener on a GT type sim. And there are no Ferraris or Porsches in GT1 as far as I can tell from the website.

  • N0body Of The Goat

Please, for the love of God, do not release this GT1 game on the archaic gmotor2 engine!

  • fpol

My understanding is that SMS is the core of the group that *was* Simbin back in the GTR/GTR2 days, which is why I said they’d produce the best product. While simbin has shown that they can do decent driving models (though I believe that they’ve lost the individual involved with GTREvo), I find the *completeness* of their current package in question.

Still, the proposed FIA GT1 is more like the short touring class stuff Simbin produces now (short ‘sprint’ races) than the format that GTR2 represented (longer sprints – and true Enduros) so i guess there’s not much need for night racing etc with this. Just hope they don’t do any of that bogus ‘equalizing’ the cars crap – and please, give us good tracks (time people learn from the folks in Massachusetts).

  • scca1981

    Sounds good.

    Only two things…

    1. No Gmotor

    2. Do not let Blackbean make it.

Even though imho simbin’s work in general has gone downhill some with the race series compared to GTL/GTR2 I still think they are the best choice for the game. Lizard Engine? I hope.

SMS would be my second choice. As long as its a true sim that controls similar to rf/GTR2/GTL and they have their game engine matured enough.

  • Gaiajohan

    felipe:
if you want a shit product just port!

Well, it’s just so easy on XBOX, cuz the X360 is just a pc. Bad ports are gennerally done for money. And usually that’s visible in the gameplay. Mostly fps-games suffer of this. Smaller maps because of less precision and depth on console. No mouse/keyboard ya know. So pc-version will be much worse than it’s predecessor. And since it’s a speed conversion they sometimes even forget to put in other controls than X360 controller.
In fact for racing games it doesn’t have to be a problem as long the game has been made for a wheel on console or on pc. The type of racing is not different. While the difference between fps on gamepad and fps with mouse/keyboard is huge.

  • felipe

this is what Eutechnyx had to say on their new title

    Eutechnyx.com:
We’re also about half way through the development of the most immersive, complete driving experience ever offered in a game environment. While not officially announced (and it won’t be for a little while) the game represents a major leap forward in what you can do with cars in a virtual world.

so pretty much the simracers are their target not a mixture of both!

  • Skillcoil

All I want from Simbin is a new graphic engine. I mean seriously we’re so sick of the same engine on their games .. it feels the same nothing new :sad2:

  • David Wright

Simbin have said that they are working on Lizard for PC but that we wouldn’t see it in 2009. My logic is we will see it in 2010.

fpol: Just hope they don’t do any of that bogus ‘equalizing’ the cars crap – and please, give us good tracks (time people learn from the folks in Massachusetts).

I agree on the equalizing, though I can understand why they’ve done it. Perhaps they could put in the option of realistic performance.

The iOpener system is more than just racing the real drivers – it includes scanning the tracks. I can’t say the idea of racing real drivers appeals to me but the track scanning does. It should be an improvement on earlier methods of track creation. Whether it is as good as the iRacing system remains to be seen. The iRacing method is very expensive. Simbin can spread the costs over hundreds of thousands of customers but they don’t have the financial backing of a big publisher or a multi-millionaire to make the initial investment.

  • LensFlare

    felipe: Eutechnyx

They’re talking about “Ride to Hell”.

  • EAKMotorsports

So now I know why the SP1 pack for Endurance is take so long…. :sad2:

  • CS21476895

If it is Simbin, it would be great for a new sound engine so we could hear the screaming R-GT!

  • http://www.bsimracing.com Arnold Carter Wong

EAKMotorsports: So now I know why the SP1 pack for Endurance is take so long….

Well, I don’t think this is going to happen, you can’t even compare a “mod for fun” to the commercial stuffs except some very special cases.

Kloche already said the Enduracers thing was false.

  • http://sommergemuese.klee.in Sommergemüse

I hope SMS is doing this with the new great Engine used in Shift :)

And of course without EA – then we get a proper Simulation and the Engine is 100% able to blow rFactor 2 away!

It would be great to see qualifying, pitstops, tyre wear and decent AI in the Shift engine. However I can’t see SMS doing this – everything points to Simbin.

And don’t be to hard on EA. First, they saved SMS. Second, Blimey/SMS were always headed towards the mainstream after GTR2 – it would be wrong to think EA forced them to change direction. The Ferrari game was not a “traditional” PC sim and the go-kart game was the same.

You allready tested rF2? lucky you!

  • http://sommergemuese.klee.in Sommergemüse

Compared to the graphics from Shift to rFactor 2 ;) Yes

    And I tested rF2 too – not ;)

  • http://simscreens.blogspot.com 6e66o

Nobody knows yet how rF2 will look like once its done,
let alone how mods will make it look.
So comparing it at this point makes no sense at all.

    On topic
Great to hear of another racing title being made.

  • eddiespag

Say, it’s been awhile since the semi regular short quick development updates from rF2′s Gjon Camaj and team on Twitter, Facebook, and Inside Simracing. They must be going full tilt and nose to the grindstone right now. I’m getting excited because I think no news is good news!

  • fpol

David Wright: And don’t be to hard on EA.First, they saved SMS.Second, Blimey/SMS were always headed towards the mainstream after GTR2….

Good insight. I’m not sure what’s wrong with the approach Simbin has taken from GTR onward, when you click on Sim mode, it strips off all the ‘aids’, but IIRC the game starts up the first time in a more ‘arcade’ mode suitable for those just wanting to smash and go.

The general ‘driving gamer’ fires up the game and is presented with a GT4 like sim-game, but the serious simmer simply selects Sim under difficulty and is presented with the full depth of the game including (hopefully) proper tire dynamics with wear, pressure and temp sensitivity etc; brake modeling with heat affects, bias, fluid fad;, and *realistic* and constrained setup options etc. Areas like sound, graphics, controllers, naturally work for both difficulty levels.
