I wonder how you know this as I spoke to a member of SMS only yesterday and asked about the demo and even he said he didn’t know for sure yet.
You must have some great sources.

</blockquote>

Demos are only released when the stores are updated, therefore there are only two opportunities for the demo to be released prior to the retail release.

Add another vote for the hood view crowd. I always feel like I'm trying to drive from the back seat in cockpit view. A little monitor cannot accurately represent a realistic view of the cockpit, and you end up looking at the road through a letter box. Now, if I had a dome screen, I'd go cockpit view every time. There's a line between visual simulation and functional simulation, and hood view, for me, while not ideal, is a far more accurate functional simulation of driving than the cockpit view. I also prefer virtual mirrors for much the same reason.

I'm glad that I've got that off my chest, and that there are actually others that prefer hood view. I got the impression from the simracing community that it was pretty much unused. All I every read about is the choice between cockpit and chase view,(which makes me feel like I'm driving a remote control toy car) like that's all there is.

Here is another NFSshift video that talks about the "cockpit view", that we have been discussing here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2XwLz-J3BU&feature=related This video also has a interview that reveals new information. Including mentioning exciting future content.

The demo will be released when the PS3/360 stores are updated, midweek, sometime before the full release.

The way some people go on it's a wonder they buy any videogame, how long has the PC sim crew bemoaned the lack of a mainstream driving 'sim', now one arrives that ticks most boxes, there's a reluctance to pay, what, $40 for the PC version.

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face, what happened to just enjoying driving a great car on a great track?

With every passing day i doubt there will be a demo before the official release of “Shift”.
Maybe some preorders will be canceled after trying the demo. </blockquote>

Come on
They only fooled one person in the whole world to pre order :happyevil:

Lots of valid points, Husky.
I'd also like to mention the issue of breakdowns and wear: I think our simulated race cars should break down much more often and wear out much quicker than they do now.
This, as well as other issues of modern sims stem from the simple fact of virtual cars being very primitive machines in my opinion. What we have is a very basic engine and transmission model (I think Richard Burns Rally tried to change that), a basic body/aero model, more complicated suspension and brake modelling and pretty good tire models: but all in all these are just poor copies of real, 'living' machines-like mannequins compared to real flesh.
Also, I think that a proper attempt as a realistic career mode would be good. But on the other hand, it would be difficult to balance with playability and... well, pro racer career is hardly a bed of roses. Some players might realize it's not funny or cool at all :neutral:

To those discussing sim vs real sim tire wear, weather effects.

This day in age, it is inexcusable to not include these items into products.

GPL can be forgiven because it simulates an era in which tires were nothing more then widened common road tires for the most part. They did not use slicks and the wear was negligible. In 1967 tires did not really wear and the sets of tires were used for more then one race. That said GPL has a very poor tire model and a simplified aero model.

In fact every title we have received to this date is still flawed by many aspects.

I want a full Flight Simulator style sim. I want to do my prerace checks, I want to be black flagged for overly aggressive and dangerous driving, I want to hear my pit guy reporting real time track information to me that is track specific. I want to be able to communicate via headset to my crew for adjustments and telemetry data to be logged and have "engineered estimates" based on the data fed back to me.

I want the fire control system button to work, I want to be able to point and click every single button in the cockpit to effect.

So the whole sim vs not sim argument can really be shoved up every single persons whoo hoo because truth is. We do not have sims in which a standard has already been set by the flight sim titles. And until we do, there are always going to be flaws.

No tire wear in a title that is made in 2009 vs one that is made in 2005 vs one that was made in 1998 - That is an 11 year gap between GPL and Shift - The fact alone that it is still being compared speaks volumes for just how polished it was, even if it is quite shit by todays standard.

Its nice to see EA and SMS can only do graphics. Just more stuff to convert in the long run.

Before you rip someone apart for just making a typo and then continue to question their communication skills maybe you need a lesson or two yourself.
Even though I do it myself from time to time because it’s a bad habit with me, you don’t start a sentence with the word ‘And’.
You have done that 3 times in that post. With me, when I do it, I know it’s wrong and its just negligence on my part.
But I certainly wouldn’t do it in a post where I’m criticising someone for how they write English.

I do, because in your foaming you made some mistakes yet again. And if you think that a snap ‘learn how to read’ was polite, you need to work on your communication skills.
And yeah, how DARE I question you? How DARE I point out your mistakes? Let me carry on with these questions: how DARE you question my reading abilities when it clearly said TOW not TWO?
Get off your high horse man, let off the pressure before you burst a vein. You’re neither the Pope or the Prince of the Universe.
And I’m not an American (see? ANOTHER mistake!)

</blockquote>

Before you rip someone apart for just making a typo and then continue to question their communication skills maybe you need a lesson or two yourself.

Even though I do it myself from time to time because it's a bad habit with me, you don't start a sentence with the word 'And'.
You have done that 3 times in that post. With me, when I do it, I know it's wrong and its just negligence on my part.
But I certainly wouldn't do it in a post where I'm criticising someone for how they write English.

My horse is too high to get off especially when dealing with someone like you. It was obvious enough I meant two when in brackets I said one car tuned and the other normal. Also I never said you were american. I said Douche Bag was a stupid american saying so that was your mistake to assume I called you american.

What makes me feel a true sim is what I see and what I feel through the wheel. If this feels close to real, it’s a sim for me.

</blockquote>

A good point, but it touches on the 'real vs. feels real' issue. There are some who say that you need a bunch of real world data, to create a 'real' sim, there are also those, who say it's not absolutely necessary, that some basic data is enough, as long as things 'feel' real. I must say I'm a bit torn between the two. I mean, it's nice to have the exact dimensions of a bolt in the sim but isn't the overall feel of the car more important than milimeter-perfect bolts in the end? :neutral:

So instead of trying to make out that I meant TWO cars you had to be a d**k and question me? Let me edit my post for you so you wont have too many problems reading what I ean. (I did spell all of my words properly did’nt I?)
Also I did’nt have a douche bag tone in the first place but your second post to me was a douche bag (Stupid american saying) tone. If the read part made you crack up why did you have to answer with such a tone? Maybe because it didnt crack you up but you just wanted to be an a**. Do you want to correct any more of my spelling?

</blockquote>
