EA has released some new previews of their upcoming Need for Speed Shift title, giving us a detailed look at the 2008 VW Scirocco.
The car can be see in a ficitonal semi-race trim from various perspectives including two cockpit shots. The real Scirocco has already enjoyed some racing success, racing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in the hands of notable drivers like Hans Stuck & Carlos Sainz.
Developed by Slightly Mad Studios (former Blimey! Games) and distributed by EA, Need for Speed Shift is expected to be released in September 2009 for the PC and all major consoles. A demo of Shift has been announced to be available this summer.

Impressin’ shots, love the graphics of Shift.
…please let it be a sim!

I’m just hoping for sim-like physics. Given its Need For Speed there are bound to be gaming elements – its not going to be GTR3 :)

Metaphorically speaking; EA are really sucking the air out of Live for Speed’s tyres.

yeah, it’ll be funny if Shift gets the scirocco on my Computer before LFS does. too bad there’s no tire wear. (no tire wear, but tires can blow?)

yep very impressIVE (not impressing ). Graphics are amazing on this thing.
Can we handle 3 months more teasing ? I hope all this marketing is worth the final product.
LFS ? Oh that. The slowest developing sim in world history with the worlds worst AI. I remember that. Lovely physics wasted on a painfully dragged out, never out of beta, development process that is already showing its age.
LFS had so much potential but I think its time peaked ages ago.
Thankfully the sim community has fans who are loyal to what they like so LFS’ longevity will live on.

Ease up guys, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be at least sim-ish. I mean, times are changeing. Nobody gives a damn about V8 Superstars Racing, and even DIRT 2 seems to have understeer (just saw it on a gameplay video! I swear!)!!!

Its not gonna be a proper sim because no one would buy it if it was, Need For Speed attracts a lot of younger players and if it was a total sim then the sales would drop by quite a lot

what defines a sim again? no gameplay elements, only choose track and car?

Exactly !
Companies make these products to sell to the biggest audience possible – which isn’t us.
Us hardcore simmers have to take the backseat on this stuff and hope we get catered for in some way.
Its unlikely Shift is going to tick all the boxes in the simmers world but if it can at least go some way to being there in its Pro mode, I dont mind to compromise a little for what looks to be a stunner of a game.

What Sim would that be that does? None checks them all. And if they did, they are pretty dry. (boring), except for in the league environment.

well in relation to the common sims out there that we all play regularly.
Plus it depends how many boxes you have that need ticking :)
