Well I think this answers my questions. Poor driving is encouraged and actually a way of advancing your career ?? Races are going to be just 2 laps in duration! What a waste of all the time that went into making promising looking physic’s and car models. This has a very strange blend of elements, I hope the demo proves me wrong but somehow…
Perhaps they’ll still be a time attack mode which would save it for me.

I still want to believe there’ll be a “simulation mode” which would strip away most of the silly arcade achievement stuff and make races longer etc..
Actually I’d be glad even if it turned out to be pretty much only arcade, as long as the driving feels better than in the hovercraft sim of last year, also known as GRID.

This is just a demo version of NFS Shift from the EA booth in E3 2009 Expo – the biggest gaming event in the year. All those latest videos are coming from there. The drivers are either some editors from the gaming media, or just visitors. That’s the reason for the bad driving.
As for the 2 laps duration, obviously this demo version is specifically crafted for such events. The visitors have only few minutes to test/ask/look what they look, since there are other visitors waiting.
Jesse Abney said today in a video interview with Gamespot, that the clean driving will be encouraged. Actually the “driver profile” is important only for the online events, IMO.
Will SMS use it to match players with similar levels, thus separating wreckers from clean drivers, or will miss this great opportunity. In the next weeks, when they reveal more info, we will know for sure.

That would be such a cool option, these profiles.
Than everybody gets the kind of competition he favours.
Imagine a clean publicserver race…

I love the look and feel of the cockpit view in this game. The sound in it is amazing too.

Lol, AI is very stupid like in all games i see.
When he spins in the gtr the others just drive against him… Not good and also you see the car weaving when turning, typical nfs gameplay. Won’t be a good game (for simmers i mean then)

The car weaved in GTR 2 too. The AI does look dumb on repeated viewings though. I’ll give you that.

OK, I’ve decided to reduce my expectations for this game. I’d still like to see it come out with a full sim mode, but I will no longer expect this. If it turns out to be GRID + better control, I’ll be happy. There’s a place for games like this, too. And I’d probably buy it anyway. Unless it handles like GRID (or TOCA 3, CMR 2005, NFS X, etc.).

I think the second video shows it can be a great sim. There the game is still on arcade mode looking at the driving line thingy but you see the guy has difficulties and at least he tries to drive cleanly. (But he can;t)

@sodapop: you’ve got a point, but just wanted to adress this. They know that AI ain’t no good and still when they develop a new game the AI suxx…
They should research more for that
