Tobias Kluge has released a new mod for Need for Speed Shift, getting rid of the fictional trackside objects that spoiled Shift’s tracks for many sim racers.
The mod removes fictional billboards, balloons, circus tents, graffitis and everything else that gave the tracks a rather arcadish look, check out the screens below to get an idea how the cleaned circuits will look.
Important: The mod requires the unpacking of the game’s files which will take around 30 minutes to complete. The mod comes with a batch-file that will take care of the unpacking, more info on this issue can be found at the download location.

Don’t need this one personally but this could help out a lotta people. Brill.

Great!
Would be interesting if there is a gain in FPS (and how much).
Btw – it’s a pity you get used so fast to the graphics of Shift: Today I re-installed GTR Evo and… I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Great mod, makes the tracks much more real.
Also shaves a bit off the FPS, as less bulls**t is needed to render.
Make sure you make a schortcut with the following switch:
“X:\Need For Speed – SHIFT\shift.exe” -loose
Where X is the partition you installed it.

A bit more info:
The game ran fine after unpacking (loading times did increase a bit though), after applying the no bling-bling patch the game freezes at track loading screen.
Must have done something wrong, will try again tonight.

This is great and everything, but couldn’t a ‘team’ of people get together and incorporate all these recent changes into 1 mod?
I’ve lost track of whats what already!

Don’t get excited, they are probably left over from the “Ferrari Project”, which was using the same game engine.

I’m having trouble getting this to work.
I followed the guide, used the 3 bat files in a command prompt with admin rights. Everything is extracted, I’ve added -loose to the shortcut and so on but the tracks remain unchanged.

Same here…I just don’t see any difference after applying the install.bat.
I installed the game in F:\Games\NFS Shift, maybe it’s because of that…?

Here is a funny one. I wanted to see if the track detail selection, in the Grapics menu would lower the detail. Guess what! The lower I put it. The more detail I got! If you haven’t tried it. Do.

Hi folks,
thanks for this great mod, my copy is still unpacking as I type this ;-)
i also noted there’s a nocd mod over at gamecopyworld, I’d love to use it as I simply hate having to put the dvd in the drive each and every time.
Has anybody tried the no/cd mod with good results? Again, it’s the legitimate buyers who get bitten in the bum by publishers

Funny how the modders make the game more complete/finished.
Seems that they have better programming skillz then EA :P

Followup: the nocd patch appears to work, but the no blingbling patch doesn’t, the tracks look the same as before. Is it possible the no/cd patch somehow fiddled with the -loose option? Unlikely I know, but still.
I unpacked the game, ran the install.bat (only relative path references in the bat files as far as I can tell, so installation path should not be an issue), but tracks didn’t change.
Thanks for your great work & any ideas,

yet another update: I needed to manually copy the contents of the _data/static folder over to tracks/_data/static. Now I have a bit of grass growing on spa’s S/F, but that’s ok as those damned merry go rounds seem to be gone for good. Thanks!

i can’t put -loose in target …it tells me its not valid…make sure the path and the file name are correct

I’ve seen many occurrences of grass spilling over onto the S/F line. Its a bug from the unmodified game.
Thankfully the marshalls mow it away before the cars come around again :)
