Just like every other day, EA has released new preview material of Need for Speed Shift, unveiling two new preview videos.
The Spa Francorchamps track guide gives us a look at the popular Belgian Grand Prix venue while the Car Battle trailer unveils another new game-mode in the usual, action-packed fashion.
Developed by Slightly Mad Studios (former Blimey! Games) and distributed by EA, Need for Speed Shift will be released on September 15th (North America) & 17th (Europe) for the PC and all major consoles.

I think the only way you can tell physcis from a video is with comparison vid of a real vs. the game. It has to be mostly and interior of the steering wheel handeling. OF the same car on the same track. How ever, you can tell that “Shifts” physics are far from arcade. Possibly as good as any.

I’m sure when folk buy the game, it won’t be an actual game, but a DVD of all the preview videos with instructions on how to sit there so it “Feels Real”.

It’s typical EA.
Read this.
http://www.gamersdailynews.com/story-13183-EA-Portable-Games-Hardware-Now-Outnumbers-Consoles-By-2to1.html
They spend 3 times on marketing what they do on development. So what we’ve seen with all these videos?
They’ve spent 3 times the amount on them they spent on this game.

Piracy and second sales are to blame obviously…
Typical big wig commentary on old fashioned business ethics. Easier to blame than to adapt, and they wonder why piracy is high.
The best marketing happens after the game is released because people will tell other people how the developers invested in quality of the product that will show clearly from playing a demo.

Hood view!! That’s down to personal preference and is nothing to do with how real the game is. GTR2 and rF have hood views do they not?? Some very good sim drivers use it to. My preference is cockpit, but it’s not for everybody otherwise they wouldn’t include alternative views.
What a bloody stupid reason for having a dig at a game that you haven’t even tried yet.
Why do people like you even bother to look at the NFS Shift news if you are clearly not interested in it and just pissing off people who do want to see more b4 it arrives on the shelves.

Track looks good from what you can see in that video, Eau Rouge looks about right. Pretty obvious these vids werent really made for us though ><
And lol @ the anti-EA brigade, you guys are cute
Like EA have done anything you wouldnt expect from a mainstream/largescale video game company primarily interested in making money. But it shouldnt diminish what SMS have clearly done with this game.
Marketing sells, deal with it.

I’m a little worried about the tranny whine…will you hear it on stock cars? I hope not. A stock car with tranny whine would be a little weird, it should only be on race cars or when you apply upgrades.

I wonder why they didn’t choose to have the latest layout of Spa in the game.

Not an old Renault! The funy part is, when you finally get off you bottom to check the transmission oil level, remove the inspection/intake cap with a hammer, find there is none, pour some in (I recommend doing it outside in the winter… at least an hour of fun, watching the thing oozing from the bottle with the speed of a continent) and find there is NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER! Woohoo!

September 7th, 2009 at 16:07
Maybe that is why they’re still in business, while companies like “Simbin” aren’t. Every product, no matter how good. Needs great promotion in todays world. They sure can’t rely on the Sim Racing community, that can’t agree on much of any thing. To pass on the word!
Howie47
September 7th, 2009 at 16:09
Maybe as sim racers them selves, they realized the old is much more fun?

I guess you didn’t hear that the cars are modifiable. So the Megane probably had a racing tranny installed!
Hope that takes care of all the dumb and dumber crowd today!

Actually, if I could choose between different layouts based on how fun they are, I would have gone even further back and chose the pre 2004 version.

So when did Simbin go out of business then? They have been putting out a lot of promotional stuff for Race On for a company that’s out of business.
Sorry, I refuse to have a battle of wits with someone who is clearly unarmed.
EA are the living embodiment of all flash, no substance.

Hmmm… F1-2000, F1-2001, F1 99-02, and I’m no football fan but the Fifa series doesn’t look too bad either.
Spore, The Sims, Crysis, Crysis 2, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Battlefield, Dead Space, Medal of Honour Airborne, Half Life 2.
Not that you have to be a fan of all of those but they are hugely popular, the F1 series in particular for us lot. To say those have no substance would be quite silly.

Dumb and dumber crowd? I think you misunderstood. I said tranny whine should only be on race cars or after you apply upgrades (like a racing tranny). I know the renault megane was upgraded, its pretty obvious that it is. I was just simply asking if anyone knew if the stock cars would have tranny whine (maybe if there is a video I haven’t seen with a stock car or something that proves it) as that would be ridiculous.

September 7th, 2009 at 20:21
Don’t mention EA and Half-Life 2 in the same sentence, please.
Valve developed and published that. EA might have had something to do with it in the port to the consoles, but that’s all.

As a car fan (not a sim racer) NFS:Shift promo videos are awesome. So much hypercar exotica. It’s clear that the producers, whatever else they are not, are most definitely car lovers. Well so am I!
Take expectations down a notch and think as a car fan not as a sim racer. We’re getting tracks which look quite accurate, well modelled cars, excellent graphics. Physics are “wait and see” but there’s no way it’s going to be some arcade insanity like Burnout.
I’m more than happy to have a semi-sim with the content of NFS:Shift. it’ll be a hoot on a work day evening when you’re too tired to seriously concentrate on hitting the braking points exactly. And what better place to have that fun than in one of the hypercars.

EA is the retail distributor of HL2 and Valve (Steam) the online distributor.
Valve developed HL2.
Sports Cart GT, F1 Championship Season 2000, F1 2001, F1 2002 and F1 Challenge ‘99-’02 were developed by ISI and published by EA.
Crysys and Crysis Warhead were developed by Crytek and published and distributed by EA (again Valve for online distribution), and the examples go on.
EA have published and/or distributed hundreds of game titles and although many are complete rubbish, quite probably due to low quality standard demands by EA itself, also there are others that are seen as some of the best games ever.
In fact the great majority of the games associated to EA brand aren’t developed by EA itself, as is the case with Shift.
Shift can be either bad, average or good, but certainly, no matter how it will end up, it’s not because it’s being published by EA that it will be worst or better then many others out there.
Personally I do hope that it will be at least entertaining, and that would mean to have a decent physics engine. If not, no harm done as there is others much more rewarding available and rFactor2 is closing in. If it will turn out to be more then entertaining and will have challenging physics better yet. Either way I will not blame nor will I praise EA, but rather SMS, as they are the ones developing it.

Maybe you should look up the meaning of vendetta? I only doubted the value of iRacing. A game that will end up costing over 1,000 USD for all the content!
While you boys make dumb criticisms and half baked accusations against Shift and it’s publisher. A game that cost 40.00 USD.
I’d much rather gamble 40$, then let some one stick a hypodermic needle in my arm, and bleed my dry!

Vendetta: An often prolonged series of retaliatory, vengeful or hostile acts or exchange of such acts.
So, your repeated criticisms of iRacing’s price scheme — even well before you tried the game — don’t fall into the category of prolonged? And they weren’t hostile?
OK. Interesting interpretation.
The accusations against Shift and EA are just as half-baked as all of your accusations against iRacing until last week. They were all based on ignorance and speculation. No one has tried Shift because there’s not a demo, and you didn’t try iRacing until you used the free trial last week.

common people … allot of these comments are starting to make the discussions look ridiculous. how many times can someone say he does not like this or that. How many times can somebody state that iRacing sucks or rules.. and so on.
Shift looks cool… maybe it even drives cool. a video surely wont show us.
Same goes for all the other releases . the only good way to handle this is … if you want it , get it ..if you dont , forget it.
